Derek 2.0 Posted August 27, 2014 Report Posted August 27, 2014 Hey...how timely is this...Justice Minister Peter MacKay supports firearms without compromise: Missed this earlier……..Yes indeed, both the Justice(Mackay) and Public Safety(Blaney) ministers are in campaign and fund raising mode, ahead of new firearms legislation being tabled this fall (with Royal Assent expected in ~March 2015)…………. Odd that the Liberal Party of Canada has been rather mute on the subject, especially no mention on the new legislation……….Then again, back in February the Liberals voted down a new policy resolution on gun control: Quote
On Guard for Thee Posted August 28, 2014 Report Posted August 28, 2014 I think they should change the image on the shirt to a MJ plant and change to wording to "OK we'll Compromise only please vote for us" Quote
Shady Posted August 28, 2014 Report Posted August 28, 2014 As has already been said, that gun was too powerful for a child to be handling. The instructor should have probably known that. Stick to small arms. Quote
On Guard for Thee Posted August 28, 2014 Report Posted August 28, 2014 I just heard the an iterview with the bozo who now speaks for this little horrorshow actually try to justify it's existence by saying that "kids younger than 9 are carrying AK's in the ME" Alright "merika" y'all head down that path y'hear. Just keep it south of our border please. Quote
GostHacked Posted August 28, 2014 Report Posted August 28, 2014 First off, we require a person to be 16 years of age (generally) to drive a car. The age for legal alcohol consumption ranges from 18 to 21 in N.A. Why the F&$K would an instructor worth even 1/10 of his weight in responsibility would allow a child to handle a weapon? I know people like Derek 2.0 and BC would have a total fit if some parent allowed their 9 year old to drive a car. This instructor paid for his utter stupidity. Luckily (as bad as it is) only the instructor was killed and not anyone else. We now have a very traumatized girl, and a family that would seriously be questioning their decision to take her to one of these events. This was 100% preventable. Idiots. Quote

Stick to small arms. Oh come on, some handguns have a lot of kick to them. Wanna throw a .38 in her hand? Why was the instructor not assisting her to make sure she could handle the weapon? Better yet, a device to hold the gun in a completely static position. I am no gun nut, but you are correct, the gun was way more than this girl could handle. Quote

I'm still shaking my head as to what was supposed to be the outcome of this activity. Was she going to be on guard duty outide the family home after school, or head off into the ills to hunt cats, or was this just to make her more popular with her classmates? I admit to the sarcasm but I just don't get it. Quote

I admit to the sarcasm but I just don't get it. I don't know. But this kind of activity sure as hell does not teach a vital important notion. Respect the gun. So, we have pop culture that glorifies the gun/killing/gangster/terrorist/police and on and on and on ........ children do grow up watching this and they see death every day. Why the hell do we have so many variations of things like CSI and Law and Order? With this type of media how is a child to understand the contextual impact of what they see on the screen? But show a little skin on TV? Again I bring up the time when I was about 13 or so my father was cleaning his hunting rifle at the kitchen table. It was fully dissembled as I watched him remove each piece. For whatever reason I picked up the barrel and gazed down it. I got a swat on the back of the head. 'You NEVER look down the barrel. How would you know if it was loaded?' I said to him, 'Well I saw you take it apart piece by piece. I knew it could not fire in that condition'. Ok I said 'Sorry, Dad.' But believe me, lesson learned. waldo Posted August 28, 2014 Report Posted August 28, 2014 Hey...how timely is this...Justice Minister Peter MacKay supports firearms without compromise: why this is most unusual for you to introduce a Canadian reference distraction into a MLW U.S. Politics forum thread... and it appears you have a supporting co-conspirator more than willing to oblige and respond to your purposeful intent. Yes how very surprising! I suspect that the constant derails with pokes about Canada actually are meant to mask a longing/jealousy toward the True North Strong and Free where you don't need to get your kid trained and outfitted with an Uzi at the same time they're still getting a handle on riding a bike. Mostly to get more booze as I recall. It was a different age back then. It sure is. When I was 11 or 12 I used to jump in my uncle's 53 GMC and throw the household garbage accumulated over the week and drive it 2 miles to the dump and throw it off and come home. I'd been trained well and took it seriously. Never thought of it as a big deal. Of course we lived in the sticks then. Quote
eyeball Posted August 28, 2014 Report Posted August 28, 2014 I've always been a pretty good driver and I figure that's when I must have gotten the good sense to really know when not to drive. Speaking of introducing kids to danger there's something about this story and general drift that brings to mind the phenomenon known as environmental deficit syndrome. When is it appropriate to expose kids to irreverence for the law? Quote I said now watch what you say they'll be calling you a radical, a liberal, oh fanatical criminal

I'm gonna hang up and think about that a spell. Quote

I've forgotten so much about the American cesspool of TV, perhaps you could guide me back to the juicier parts you like. Let's see, I seem to recall some show hosted by a guy named Jerry Springer. Look...another shooting...Oh My !!! American TV must suck. Look at how much time you spend on a forum about Canadian politics, hanging around Canadians, and chatting about Canada. Even when you're in the American politics section, you can't help but talk about Canada. But I'm the wannabe American, right? You go on ad nauseum about how pathetic Canada is, but you so desperately want to belong to a group of Canadians on the internet. That doesn't say a whole lot about you. Quote
