I also hope a Federal Election doesn't become essentially a plebiscite on MJ legalization.

JT's platform, beyond this issue, is pretty thin.

Will we hear more about budgets balancing themselves when the CPC proposes tax cuts in the face of a budget surplus? Will JT propose to bring the nation back to deficit spending? I'd like to hear his opinions on such matters before I care about pot.

Let's have a look since the Tories came to power in 2006:

Arrests for pot possession have jumped 41 per cent.

Who's making the arrests? Police forces are municipal and provincial. The Harper Government has nothing to do with it. As usual, people are trying to blame the federal government for local issues for local jurisdictions. Just like the BC disaster. It's getting ridiculous.

Also if states in the US can legalize pot, why haven't provinces proposed measures to liberalize pot laws on their own? Didn't many go it on their own on Same-Sex Marriage before the feds made it a federal law?

Whether or not they get sent to prison, they are still left with a record and is quite simply not fair.

What's unfair about it? They chose to smoke pot knowing it was illegal. It's not like anyone MADE them.

are you equally sad... will you be equally sadder... over the investment Harper Conservatives have and will continue to put into related personal attack ads against JT intended to secure votes? After all, think of all those challenges you speak of!

Trudeau makes personal attacks as well. The Liberal party of Canada invented gutter politics in Canada and have been playing the game for thirty years.

You just never cared until the Tories started doing it.

Who cares?

You don't care that Trudeau lies about things?

Uh...I think the point is it's unfair because it's illegal.

I don't like marijuana any more than I like alcohol, but the reality is, it's unfair that it's illegal, a it's no more harmful than the other substance I named.

I think it is more harmful. Breathing smoke into your lungs is not good for your lungs. Also, THC is not good for you at all, especially the brain.

And is breathing tobacco smoke any better?

No, I don't think so. So why are we trying to legalize one, while at the same time, restricting the other? Wouldn't the logical and consistent position be to do away with both substances? Personally, if I had a teenage son or daughter, I'd rather catch them smoking a cigarette than a joint.

Cigs aren't really restricted other than some stores can't sell to minors. And it's pretty hard to do away with substances. Sure it would be better if noone did anything harmful to themselves. I'd rather have my kid smoke one joint a day than 20 cigarettes.

Legalization with restrictions..just like other moderately harmful substances.

Also alcohol is a carcinogen as it's basically poison, so no, the smoke isn't worse.

Yes, the smoke is worse. You can drink alcohol in moderation, and have absolutely no issues with it. The same can't be said for smoking. Hell, doctors recommend a glass of red wine each day! Don't be a science denier Smallc, you're better than that.

Well if the smoke bothers you, here's the good news: you can bake it into brownies or even rub it on your skin. Very versatile the old cannabis weed. And even smoking it is much less harmful than cigs.

No, I don't think that marijuana smoke is less harmful than cigarette smoke. There's no THC in cigarette smoke, which is a mild form of acid. Eating it would be better for somebody, that's for sure. Perhaps people just need to find a way to eat tobacco in some type of food too. Problem solved!

As I said before, here's why it is less harmful: most people who are into cigs do a pack at least a day. Nobody smokes anywhere near 20 joints a day.
