I'd really like to see the statistics on reporting...what's the real score? I think it would be quite enlightening.

Michael Hardner shouldn't be a moderator. Nobody that posts on a regular basis should be. It's a conflict of interest. Like a player/referee.

That might be informative only if popsters could agree to what is considered left , center or right. It is easier to slag each other if you are free to use your own definition.

Note - For those expecting a response from Big Guy: I generally do not read or respond to posts longer then 300 words nor to parsed comments.

It can work. I've seen it on other sites. The problem here is there are only two moderators. We should have four or five to represent the political spectrum, and there should be some discussion among them before punishment is meted out.

Four to five moderators for a handful of active posters. You are giving this forum too much credit. They need to greatly increase posters to justify that. And let's have a female moderator when those posters increase in number.

Why?

Who would you recommend and why?

We should have four or five to represent the political spectrum, and there should be some discussion among them before punishment is meted out.

Who do you recommend?

Do you want to try?

I'd really like to see the statistics on reporting...what's the real score?

What statistics? What are you counting?

Do you want to see all of the reports? If so, I would have to check with Greg about that because we treat the reports as private communication.

I suppose we could inform you which posts have been reported and leave out the names of the members who reported them.

I don't take offense personally to that, but racial slurs of any stripe should not be allowed. Again, post still there, member still posting.

We tend to leave posts up if it is clear that folks have ignored the trolling and carried on the discussion.

We tend to leave posts up if somebody else responds to it and takes the trolling to task in a constructive manner. Lots of you folks are good at that and you should be proud. Some of you folks are bad at it.

We recognize that the outward appearance of our interventions give the impression that we allow trolling or that we are doing nothing. We do not care.

We are proud to respect and foster your freedom to self-moderate as much as possible.

SHORT VERSION: More of you and less of us makes us happy.

Trollers?

Personal attack.

Don't worry pal, lefty got the power.

No. That was not a personal attack.

Rather, it was an attempt to derail the discussion.

Other than the mod staff, I can not see any reason why anybody should take offense.

So, eff reporting. Does nothing but give the two lefties something to laugh at righties about .

If you refuse to report that which you want to be deleted, we ask that you ignore it and refrain from responding in kind.

However, if you are convinced that we are doing nothing, then act that way. Act as if we did not exist.

That attitude, though, is self-defeating. I now report everything I see which transgresses the apparent new standard (as based on the last few message I have gotten from moderators).

We appreciate it. We agree with approximately half of your reports. That is high compared to most other posters.

Ever since I started, I always appreciated your reports Argus because I knew for certain that if a post got YOU upset such that firing back in the forums was not enough, there must be something peculiar with the alleged trolling post. That still is the case to this day.

We also enjoy reading your posts as contributions to the discussions.

Next time, please report it and ignore it.

Reporting anything about anybody on the left is an excersize in futility, as I'm sure you are well aware.
No. I was not aware MLW was a poetry contest. You are going to have to explain yourself if you want to be taken seriously. Your "left" becomes "right" after I turn my back to you.

As far as I can see, there is only up, down, clockwise and counter-clockwise. The rest is just perception. MH does not agree with me on that, mind you.

If you need to ask why I am suggesting a female moderator then you have an issue. I would recommend Jaycee. Edited by Charles Anthony

So, you refuse to censor your pals on the left. Do you want me to name them?

You allow racist comments, even after they have been reported. Unless of course it's from ppl on the right. Again, shall I name them.

Clearly, as far as many on here can see, you need glasses that have lenses in both the left and right eyehole.

If you cannot see why Jaycee would not be a good moderator, I won't say you have an issue because that would be attacking you, but I would suggest that a more centrist view be considered.

Well you seem to be attacking Jaycee on this issue, not me. Thanks to Charles.

See, when are you going to understand that not agreeing with you is not attacking?

I don't think "attacking" means what you think it means.

You brought up the word 'attacking' initially. Anyway, Charles needs to address this. He asked for recommendations. If he's not going to protect that, it's on him to deal with it.

A moderator has to have a reasonably open mind and acceptance of wildly different political, ideological, and social views. Jaycee (and you) have often expressed your outrage at opinions which go against your own, and a desire they not be permitted here. As such, neither of you would be a wise choice for moderator.

Bonam. And sure.

What statistics? What are you counting?

I would kind of like to know how often people are suspended/given warning points, and how many complaints there are each day. None of that is a privacy issue.

I agree that the rest, given the nature of how this site wishes to protect privacy, is probably not possible. My suspicion is, however, that certain people on the Left of the spectrum, who are constantly outraged by politically incorrect language and topics, make a lot of complaints.

We appreciate it. We agree with approximately half of your reports. That is high compared to most other posters.

You misapprehend my motives to some extent. My preference has always been to fire back in the forums. But the unpredictability of how the moderators will respond has made that something which is more likely to cause me more trouble than it's worth. Firing back, for the most part, is simply not on. There is also a certain desire for a level of equality in enforcement such that if I'm smacked for saying something while I observe others doing the same I'm likely to report them. Hey, if I get warned then so should they.

We also enjoy reading your posts as contributions to the discussions.

That is not the impression I have ever gotten.

The reason I suggested right of centre moderators is the perception, esp among right of centre posters, that the ideological beliefs of the two current moderators is hostile to conservative views. I am not aware there has ever been any perception that the moderators' gender makes them hostile to female views.

We don't have enough women participating to give it much thought at this point and I doubt it will happen anytime soon.

Charles asked my opinion. I have no desire and I think Jaycee would be exceptional.

Speaking generally, men hesitate to respond to posts by women. Whether it's because Its beneath them or not, I don't know. But when there are more women posters you tend to see more interaction amongst women which tends to lead to more responses from men. This is why I think it is imperative to have more women posters here.

I apologize for recommending Jaycee. I did not think she would come under attack. I never once recommended myself although I found myself under attack. I apologize to Jaycee for this scrutiny.

Moderation is not the evaluation of validity of the arguement, it is in moderating the process of posters presenting it.

The moderator is the referee whose responsibility is to keep dialogue, especially passionate political dialogue, worthy of a discussion board. The moderator is not dealing with the message, it is not dealing with the messenger, it is dealing with the tone and language used in presenting or opposing a point of view.

You folks are doing well trying to do a difficult job.
