I read the misspelled thread title and pictured someone named "Roberto Lounge-o", a tacky lounge-lizard in a half-unbuttoned silk shirt, gold medallion, and too much cologne, pointing at the ladies and making clicking sounds with his tongue.

What's up with the Canucks? They deal Luongo, and Kesler is reportedly on the block? Are they throwing in the towel on this season?

Seems like they were trying to free up cap space. Maybe theyre trying to land a top line forward.

If you ask me though I think both Gillis and Torts should get fired.

Market price for a top 5 goalie in the nhl is a bag of pucks and a roll of hockey tape.

Thats not true! They got a gift certificate for Timmys too!

Starting the rebuild. It will be hard to get a fair price for Kesler now.

Window looked like it was closing, now it's slammed shut.

Western Canada is a hockey wasteland. East is no great shakes either.

Naw! Burkie will get Calgary turned around in no time. LOL!

Never quite knew what to make of him as a goal tender but a class act and always a gentleman.

I agree. I'm not sure that I would want him as our starting goalie but in spite of the issues he went through in Vancouver and being on the block all of last year and then his relegation to backup for the Olympics, I felt that he was a classy, classy person. Definitely a guy I would want on my team but maybe not as the starter.

accepting that every goalie wants to play and most aspire to hold the designated #1 position: with what arguably was the best tandem in Schneider/Luongo, Luongo's missing class forced the Canucks to deal Schneider... Luongo simply wouldn't share the duties and couldn't accept Schneider's building success and recognition. Now Luongo is gone and the Canucks (as of now) hold no goalies that have shown anything to warrant positioning anywhere near league elite levels.

They felt forced to deal Schneider because they couldn't deal Luongo due to his contract. Luongo is making far too much money for any team to have him as a backup. I think Tim Thomas' days in Florida are numbered. There never seemed to be any friction between Luongo and the goalies he played with or did he ever complain publicly. Quite the contrary. Lack has played very well. The 1-0 loss to Phoenix last night flattered the Canucks and he was the reason why. The question is, can he do it consistently as a number one.

At least it's nice that they sent him back to Florida.

Yes you are exactly right. Luongo's contract was the only impedment to trading him. He got along great with Schneider as he did with Maclennan in Florida. He's a classy team guy! I guess another poster must have been confused by this skit and made an erroneous assessment of Luongo.

what a difference a year makes???

Sure does and It is hard to put a finger on what has happened. New coach, different system, realignment making it a much tougher division, a team that has been hammered by injuries to top players particularly since the end of November and an older team, but they couldn't have aged that much in the four months between seasons.

it doesn't make sense in the short time-frame since Schneider was dealt. Schneider's cap hit was $4mil; Luongo's was $5.3mil and he asked to be traded... and Florida was always his (natural) preference. You may hold the key with your reference to Thomas; perhaps the Panther's opened up over the short timeframe based on a 'souring' with Thomas.

The length of Luongo's contract was probably a bigger issue than the cap hit when it came to trading him. The Canucks also probably lowered their expectations about what they could expect in return. Wouldn't know about Thomas.

It's hard to make sense of a lot of things management has done. Meetings between the Aquilinis and Gillis must be very interesting these days.

The Canuck players have simply sucked all year...except for December when they set records for the month.

Injuries do not explain it. They have the two best cyclers in the league (Sedins), some awesome fire power to boot, grit galore....yet they are nowhere near what they should be.

When all of these are added up it points (in my est) to the coach and his style of play. With the right coaching I bet theyd be 10 points up from current and everyone would go ..."ahhh"

as for the coach, Canucks made the same mistake as the Oilers... they both went with a reputation, one built-up by the media-machine! One in New York, the other in Toronto.

last hour to trade deadline, SportsCenter updates that Florida is shopping Tim Thomas... there you go!

fast & furious! Claim made that Thomas has now been traded to Stars.

Ehh.....I dont concur

Torts has a ring so he has that, not to mention some stellar seasions in NY.

Most people believed that Eakins was a very good coach but perhaps not the guy to be in charge of that young talent.

I can agree Torts was the wrong choice for Canucks, style wise, bombasticity wise (is that even a word?)

I for one, will miss Luongo. He is our italian stallion for us women here in BC!

Oh Canucks! You're so entertaining!

Loved that Luongo was chirping his old team on Twitter after getting shelled by Dallas (I believe) last week.

Then last night they blow a 3-nil lead by giving up 7 goals.

I don't see how Gillis or Torts survive this season. That was a great call giving Eddie Lack the start in the Stadium game, he really gives you a better chance to win.
