bush_cheney2004 Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 The modern use of 'racist' doesn't really apply to 1860. By our standards, everybody was. That's a funny but very true thought. Even Archie Bunker would have been shocked. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

Black Dog Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 To those who are so fixated that may be the case, but I personally kept a photo of Admiral Doenitz (full uniform with Nazi insignia) on my desk and stateroom locker as a reminder of what I was doing as a naval officer. Anybody with a brain got it...and respected it. You wanted to identify yourself as a hardcore loyalist to Der Führer? Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 You wanted to identify yourself as a hardcore loyalist to Der Führer? Yes....it was way cooler than a photo of Queen Elizabeth II. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Black Dog Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 Yes....it was way cooler than a photo of Queen Elizabeth II. So are you a committed fascist, or do you just love a man in a (Nazi) uniform? Quote
DogOnPorch Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 So are you a committed fascist, or do you just love a man in a (Nazi) uniform? I believe they have a common interest in submarines. Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.
Black Dog Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 I believe they have a common interest in submarines. Couldn't find a photo of, say, Charles Lockwood that he had to use that of a Nazi war criminal? Quote
Jimmy Wilson Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 (edited) Agreement. The red-neck thing holds true in Canada. Most Canadians don't know their Shilohs from their Chickamaugas even at musket point. Very true...But we cannot expect much different from the slobbering "Don Cherry" types, can we? DogOnPorch Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 Couldn't find a photo of, say, Charles Lockwood that he had to use that of a Nazi war criminal? Donitz...and even many Allied commanders agreed...was a military man rather than one of the Himmler crowd. He was punished for conducting unrestricted submarine warfare. Something the Allies were quite familiar with themselves. He was indeed a Nazi, though. They all had to be to hold their commissions. Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.
Jimmy Wilson Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 And very few Reb units actually used that flag, anyways. It's the Army of Tennessee's flag, if I'm not mistaken. Stars 'n Bars I always thought the Confederate Battle flag was a naval flag? It should be noted that the flag is square and not rectangular... Jimmy Wilson Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 As we all know there was conflict between the south and north in America that caused The Civil War. 150 years later many people across America still fly the Confederate flag today. The topic here is it racist to fly the flag? It's not necessarily racist or bigoted to fly it... It is if one believes in what the underlying issues around the "States Rights" arguement and not the cotton/economic issue... bush_cheney2004 Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 Meh...the British appeaser support for Hitler and Nazism is no great secret, up to and including King George VI. Pretending to hate the symbols after the fact is a game in political correctness. The Confederate battle flag represents a place and time just like any other, including union jacks or the rising sun. DogOnPorch Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 He was as ardent a Nazi as anyone in the high command. No he wasn't. He did admire Hitler for what he did do for the Kriegsmarine, mind you. So would you had you been admiral. Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.
Black Dog Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 Meh...the British appeaser support for Hitler and Nazism is no great secret, up to and including King George VI. Which has what to do with your apparent affection for ardent Nazis? Pretending to hate the symbols after the fact is a game in political correctness. Twaddle. The Confederate battle flag represents a place and time just like any other, including union jacks or the rising sun. And it carries historical baggage as a result. Feel free to use it along with your snapshots of Nazis, but that really does say a metric tonne about your mindset. Quote

GostHacked Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 I'm somewhat baffled as to why many Canadian rednecks choose to identify themselves with the Confederate flag, however. -k Even more baffling is Kanye West using it. But hey, it's Kanye the gay fish.(South Park) Quote
