Shady... right, who knew! Like mommy Babs says, "there have been enough Bushes in the White House"... as she undercut a continuation of the BushClan with Jeb... "the NextOne"! Stay out of the Bushes! Senior was no intelligence heavyweight, by any stretch - his gafs aren't as well played as Juniors (only because of the times and the "internets"!). What's quite humourous is to listen to the whining Senior railing against all those who claimed Junior was an idiot... I mean, c'mon, the Shrub graduated from Yale, for chrissakes!

nothing to say about the referenced/quoted Obamacare report, hey?

More ignorance about U.S. health insurance....procedure charges are billed at a negotiated rate for group or individual policies. Multiple policies reduce patient costs further. EOB's report reimbursement levels before elective procedures. Web sites report membership, eligibility, and coverage instead of how many months it will take to get a simple MRI or CT scan.

Depending on the size of the city...from quite some time to hardly any time at all. One factor can be the doctor you have and how good he/she is at using referrals. It does work out well for some...can't say all, of course. My wife had an eye operation that would have cost us upward of $50,000 in the US without any fuss or muss right here in our small city.

I'm sure it does work out well for most Canadians, but the gatekeeping wait listed provincial queues would not be tolerated by most Americans. Resentment will grow if the ACA (Obamacare) screws up the present level of timely care for Americans who already have/had health insurance, and that includes backlash from health care providers who already reject government paid programs because of low reimbursement rates and high pain-in-the-ass administration.

Economics trumps Virtue.

Another factor that I'm sure who infuriate the American way of thinking is that you could go years with perfect health...not drawing a dime, so to speak...while you pay for other folks OCD visits to the ER etc over a hang nail.

Yes....we are seeing that already in "progressive" states that want to go it alone with "single payer". MaineCare has just come out and stated as much straight up, acknowledging that unlike in Canada, universal access to health care is not considered to be a basic "human right" in the U.S. It's not really a "right" in Canada either, but politically that is assumed to be the case (third rail death to any who would challenge the status quo).

About 35 percent of health care in Canada is privately or employer paid through insurance benefits. This includes dental, vision, and procedures not monopolized by provincial insurance programs.

Perhaps, but lets see what ...oh wait...

procedure charges are billed at a negotiated rate for group or individual policies.

Deflect to include billing practices huh? Grasping I'd say.

Anyhow, what happens when backruptcy or denial looms.

"Hey, I can get procedure done for $X....but I cant afford it" :(

Indeed.

I liked him, too. As I mentioned, Bush Sr did us all a favor by cleaning the cowboys out of the CIA. Hardly a coup in sight since.

I remember reading something about this in the mid 90s. Understandably, the world had changed and the Soviet empire was not funding destabilizing wars in Central America and Africa anymore.

Do you have a link on this ?

The same thing that happens in Canada when people go bankrupt for medical conditions and costs.

No one goes bankrupt in Canada due to medical healthcare costs. In the USA, its #1.

No one is denied an approved medical procedure in Canada. In the USA they are all the time. Its that lackey in the cubicle thing again.

Better a Dr decide than cubicle worker.

The saga continues...

Health Care Website Frustrates Spanish Speakers

The site, CuidadoDeSalud.gov, launched more than two months late. A Web page with Spanish instructions linked users to an English form.

And the translations were so clunky and full of grammatical mistakes that critics say they must have been computer-generated — the name of the site itself can literally be read "for the caution of health."

"When you get into the details of the plans, it's not all written in Spanish. It's written in Spanglish, so we end up having to translate it for them," said Adrian Madriz, a health care navigator who helps with enrollment in Miami

What a freaking clown show.

Medical conditions, yes ...

but NOT medical costs

http://www.bankruptcy-canada.ca/bankruptcy/causes-of-bankruptcy-in-canada.htm

The last [third] on our list of leading causes of bankruptcy in Canada, are medical problems; they often can and do lead to a lot of financial problems. Fortunately, in Canada most of our medical expenses, such as hospital care, are covered by the government, unlike in the United States where medical bills for uninsured Americans are a leading cause of bankruptcy in America.

However, if you get sick or injured, and you are off work for a number of months, even with medical insurance your income is reduced, and that makes it more difficult to service your debts.

Your pathetic attempt to mislead by conflating medical costs with income loss due to medical conditions is noted, b_c.

Troll on ...

This is patently false....medical bankruptcies do occur in Canada. Nice try.

As Jacee aptly pointed out you can go bankrupt in Canada if a medical condition makes you unable to work, but you will not go bankrupt paying medical bills, like so many in the uS do. Here one story as to why: a man came from Maryland to visit his friend in Toronto lately. During his visit he tripped, took a header and broke some bones in his foot/ankle. It needed immediate attention but he had no coverage here. He had the surgery, 11 pins in his foot/ankle and the bill came to $4500. He carried on with his vist and on return to the US he went to his doctor who remarked that the surgery was excellent. And also that if it had been done at home the bill would have been slightly north of $20,000! Where does the extra cost go? Into the coffers of "Acme" insurance company of course. The US is of course about the only remaining industrialized country that lacks a single pay system. While we're at it, the US pays about 4 times what the Czeck Republic does, but has abiout the same mortality rate In terms of infant mortality, the US has fallen from 28th to 41st, which puts it in the same league as Qatar and Croatia. Currently the US spends about 2.7 trillion on health care annually and that is projected to go the 5.0 trillion in the 2020's. I think I'll but a few shares in "Acme" You guys pay the freight, I'll collect the proceeds..
