All i can say then is enjoy him while you can, because rumor has it his own caucus is thinking about throwing him under the bus. In any case 23 months from now he's gone.

I highly doubt it.

Even King (not as great a PM but longest serving, got a bit of unscheduled time off.

Italy and GB aren't for arming the rebels yet either. Their stance is not so different than Canada's.

The Italian Defense Minster:

http://www.defensenews.com/article/20130616/DEFREG01/306160004/Italian-DM-Will-Syria-Boil-Over-Into-Regional-Conflict-

“In a moment in which the US does not want to intervene, the responsibility of Europe increases,” said Mauro, who made his comments days before the US announced it would arm Syrian rebels and further reports that the White House was considering a no-fly zone. “Europe must reflect on what it wants to be. Italy is physically immersed in the Mediterranean, which makes it both vulnerable and strategic for the resolution of these conflicts.”

So Squid, do you feel Canada should supply arms to Syrian rebels and/or involve ourselves directly by the use of (military) force.....Or do you agree with Prime Minister Harper's stance that other then humanitarian aid, Canada should not involve ourselves in the Syrian Civil war?

So neither country has pledged to arm the rebels... Just like Canada "at this time".

So do you agree with arming rebels and/or sending our military over to fight with them against Assad? Or do you agree with the Harper Government, in that we should only concern ourselves with sending aid?

Harper = Head of Government, Johnston/Queen = Head of State. So that person is half right lol.

Johnston is in the vice-regal position, i.e. not a true Head of State.

It's not written anywhere that the Queen or GG is the head of state, so it's debatable (some scholars say yes, some no) if the GG could be called that. Though the GG performs virtually all roles that the head of state does and is treated as such. The Queen is basically our HoS, and the GG represents her, so I'd call the GG and Queen our Heads of State. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monarchy_of_Canada#Head_of_state

Come on squid, you have been called out, we are waiting for your answer.

Don’t hold your breath………The NDP and Liberals probably haven’t received the polling numbers yet on how popular supplying arms or troops to Syria would be amongst Canadians………Do they side with the Government on a important issue, or promote supplying arms to terrorists groups and/or sending Canadian troops “over there”…..
Several days ago (Monday?), well watching Power and Politics, Ian Capstick (NDP supporter/talking head) spoke of Syria and the phrase “Just War”, in that the West intervening would be “justifiable”…….
Would the NDP/Liberals still feel justified once/if a Canadian Hornet was shot down by a Syrian, Russian made, SA-10 (roughly equivalent to the first flight of American Patriot missiles in the 80s), well enforcing a “justifiable” no-fly-zone? Or sending ill-equipped Canadian soldiers into an environment roughly equivalent to Iraq or Afghanistan, but with the added danger of the possibility of fighting in a environment saturated with Chemical weapons?

I think the Liberals and NDP’s lack of stated stance is telling, telling Canadians that they too side with Prime Minister Harper and that he’s made the correct call on Syria…….They just don’t want to give him credit publicly.

Hey sometimes I feel ashamed as well if I didn't study hard enough and get some questions wrong. That's an easy problem to solve - do some research and correctly identify our head and state, and you won't feel so ashamed next time.

But several international organizations say all indications are Canada has balked at a measure that would identify the true owners of offshore accounts and shell companies by disclosing whats called beneficial ownership information.Canada, say the various groups, appears to have also been fighting measures that would call for automatic tax information exchange agreements between countries that would help governments better track tax cheats.

So there's Harper mewling away at Putin about Syria when he isn't even invited to the discussion ... and balking at rounding up our wealthy tax cheats.

He sure knows how to play to his fans.

That funny part about this is, if Harper signed on for that particular clause, the very same people would be crying foul about him selling out our sovereignty, moving towards the one-world-government, crying about Bilderberg, etc, etc.

Harper is right now doing the very thing you would be insisting he'd do if there was even a hint he was leaning the other way.

So what did chretien do for 13 years?

Lots of hollow announcements containing the right buzzwords.

Maybe that's what Harper's doing wrong. Instead of really leading this country, he should just give more public speeches with empty platitides. That seems to be what Liberal voters want: More talk, less action.

Lots of hollow announcements containing the right buzzwords.

Like 'lets get the deficit under control' since Mulroney and Trudeau had made it soar.

Kept the country together when it was within a whisker of breaking up.The Clarity Act.

Squashed Stockwell Day and his Dinos walk w humans ideas.

Gave us the GST and didnt replace it with something when he said he would.

The Sponsorship scandal....

Hmm....seems he did a lot.

What really bothers the left is that harper is a real leader and is doing the right things. So what did chretien do for 13 years?

A leader with a national Mauchesson's syndrome. Almost killed the Confederation to save it spuriously campaigning against the 1995 (Quebec will be like lobsters boiling in a pot) referendum.

Pretty good summation except for my disagreement, as noted above, on Quebec Referendum. And one quibble. Mulroney gave you the GST. Chretien lied about replacing it or ending it.

He can't.

no - the fixed election date act does not preclude the Governor General, upon the advice of the Canadian Prime Minister, from dissolving Parliament... at any time! Notwithstanding that, of course, in 2008 Conservative PM Harper ignored the very fixed election date act his government had brought into law!

as a claimed foreigner, you have consistently demonstrated your failed interpretations of Canadian history... and politicians you don't favour. This is no exception to your repeated pattern.
