Guest Derek L Posted June 19, 2013 Report Posted June 19, 2013 Italy and GB aren't for arming the rebels yet either. Their stance is not so different than Canada's. The Italian Defense Minster: http://www.defensenews.com/article/20130616/DEFREG01/306160004/Italian-DM-Will-Syria-Boil-Over-Into-Regional-Conflict- “In a moment in which the US does not want to intervene, the responsibility of Europe increases,” said Mauro, who made his comments days before the US announced it would arm Syrian rebels and further reports that the White House was considering a no-fly zone. “Europe must reflect on what it wants to be. Italy is physically immersed in the Mediterranean, which makes it both vulnerable and strategic for the resolution of these conflicts.” So Squid, do you feel Canada should supply arms to Syrian rebels and/or involve ourselves directly by the use of (military) force.....Or do you agree with Prime Minister Harper's stance that other then humanitarian aid, Canada should not involve ourselves in the Syrian Civil war? Moonlight Graham Posted June 19, 2013 Report Posted June 19, 2013 Johnston, actually Queen Elizabeth II, and not Harper, is your Head of State. Harper = Head of Government, Johnston/Queen = Head of State. So that person is half right lol. It's not written anywhere that the Queen or GG is the head of state, so it's debatable (some scholars say yes, some no) if the GG could be called that. Though the GG performs virtually all roles that the head of state does and is treated as such. The Queen is basically our HoS, and the GG represents her, so I'd call the GG and Queen our Heads of State. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monarchy_of_Canada#Head_of_state Edited June 19, 2013 by Moonlight Graham Quote "All generalizations are false, including this one." - Mark Twain Partisanship is a disease of the intellect.

Are you just a troll here just to call harper down? Why is he a disgrace? What did he do over there to disgrace this country. Now I know Lib MP wayne easter is all upset for harper hurting putins feelings yes wayne is worried about putins feelings. So who really who is the disgrace? Guest Derek L Posted June 20, 2013 Report Posted June 20, 2013 Come on squid, you have been called out, we are waiting for your answer. Don’t hold your breath………The NDP and Liberals probably haven’t received the polling numbers yet on how popular supplying arms or troops to Syria would be amongst Canadians………Do they side with the Government on a important issue, or promote supplying arms to terrorists groups and/or sending Canadian troops “over there”….. Several days ago (Monday?), well watching Power and Politics, Ian Capstick (NDP supporter/talking head) spoke of Syria and the phrase “Just War”, in that the West intervening would be “justifiable”……. Would the NDP/Liberals still feel justified once/if a Canadian Hornet was shot down by a Syrian, Russian made, SA-10 (roughly equivalent to the first flight of American Patriot missiles in the 80s), well enforcing a “justifiable” no-fly-zone? Or sending ill-equipped Canadian soldiers into an environment roughly equivalent to Iraq or Afghanistan, but with the added danger of the possibility of fighting in a environment saturated with Chemical weapons? I think the Liberals and NDP’s lack of stated stance is telling, telling Canadians that they too side with Prime Minister Harper and that he’s made the correct call on Syria…….They just don’t want to give him credit publicly. hitops Posted June 20, 2013 Report Posted June 20, 2013 (edited) Harper is a disgrace to all that Canada has ever stood for, I am ashamed to call him the head of our Country. Hey sometimes I feel ashamed as well if I didn't study hard enough and get some questions wrong. That's an easy problem to solve - do some research and correctly identify our head and state, and you won't feel so ashamed next time. Edited June 20, 2013 by hitops Quote
jacee Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 But several international organizations say all indications are Canada has balked at a measure that would identify the true owners of offshore accounts and shell companies by disclosing whats called beneficial ownership information.Canada, say the various groups, appears to have also been fighting measures that would call for automatic tax information exchange agreements between countries that would help governments better track tax cheats. So there's Harper mewling away at Putin about Syria when he isn't even invited to the discussion ... and balking at rounding up our wealthy tax cheats. He sure knows how to play to his fans. Quote
margrace Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 Will he call an election in the fall. Quote

That funny part about this is, if Harper signed on for that particular clause, the very same people would be crying foul about him selling out our sovereignty, moving towards the one-world-government, crying about Bilderberg, etc, etc. Harper is right now doing the very thing you would be insisting he'd do if there was even a hint he was leaning the other way. PIK Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 What really bothers the left is that harper is a real leader and is doing the right things. So what did chretien do for 13 years? Quote Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.
Bryan Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 So what did chretien do for 13 years? Lots of hollow announcements containing the right buzzwords. Maybe that's what Harper's doing wrong. Instead of really leading this country, he should just give more public speeches with empty platitides. That seems to be what Liberal voters want: More talk, less action. Quote

Itsjustme Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 Sounds right to me. Harper and the conservatives do not seem to be much good at speeches and getting the facts out. They need to do a better job of messaging and rebutting. They have two years left do set the record straight, and right in some cases. Quote

waldo Posted June 22, 2013 Report Posted June 22, 2013 He can't. no - the fixed election date act does not preclude the Governor General, upon the advice of the Canadian Prime Minister, from dissolving Parliament... at any time! Notwithstanding that, of course, in 2008 Conservative PM Harper ignored the very fixed election date act his government had brought into law! Quote
