Why I love the U.S.

And in case it's totally escaped you, I'm mentioned what I'm talking about, what my point is, oh, about a bajillion times. To the extent that I would rather hit my head against the wall - really, really hard - than repeat it yet again. If some here are still unable to determine what I am talking about, I'm afraid that they need much more help than I am willing to give them.

Oh the irony. And I'll have to explain it a bit for some of our posters here. You keep making posts about not wanting to repeat your points that you made before in the thread. But since your head is in no way (and this is PURELY a guess) being threatened by drywall, you can always post again on how you don't want to repeat yourself.

Yeah, you've mentioned it... I just don't think anybody really believes you actually think this is an "opportunity".

When they named America "the land of opportunity", I don't think they meant anything like this debacle.

Don't let us stop you. Knock yourself out. ( ;) )

Yeah, I think that may have been a little before television. B)

Why, thank you for your permission to continue to believe as I do - and just when I was going to let you stop me from doing so.

Actually, I would say that your attitude and judgment is a poor statement about you. ;)

That I have taste? That I believe people should comport themselves with a measure of dignity and pride?

You think we should sweep people like this under the rug, pretend they don't exist?

In most culturally advanced western countries there are very few people like this. Are you proud that America has so many ignorant yokels with no education or cultural or political sophistication?

I hate to break it to you, but they are as much Americans as Bristol Palin is - and they are no more an embarrassment;

Britol Palin and her entire family ARE an embarrassment, or would be to anyone with any measure of taste and intelligence.

How do you feel about people snickering and laughing at the Kardashians, Paris Hilton, and Bristol Palin? I don't think you get my point at all. America isn't just these people, rich privileged people.[

They're white trash, regardless of what money they have.

Then perhaps you shouldn't be watching it. :) I happen to agree with you about the quality of such shows, but that's not what my point was about. Clearly.

And again, your point is silly. Your point would be no more relevent if TV was showing gladiator tournaments with death matches against lions. Would you be proud of America that lions had the opportunity to compete with Republicans for voter share? What about if they put X-rated porn on CBS? I bet more people would watch that than the Republicans too. Would that make you proud of America that any girl with nice boobs could have sex in front of a camera and outdraw the RNC?

Are you proud that you're so ignorant, as you think yourself so superior in every way?

Now you're comparing this family to animals? And again, you miss my point - and with such a display of ignorance that I have decided to come out with my next reason for loving the U.S. - Reason #2: you're not an American. B)

Not true. You should see some of the people in downtown London. They come into our office, missing teeth, reeking of smoke and beer. Usually on ODSP or OW, dumb as bricks, usually white, with the language skills of a 5th grader.

I was thinking more of Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Finland, Belgium, Holland, Germany (exempting the east), and, for the most part, Canada. Britain has always had a class and education problem. Much like the US does.

No, anyone who belches and farts and scratches themselves in public is an embarrassment, unless they're five years old.

I don't think of myself as superior in every way. On the other hand, I don't think of myself as ignorant, either. I suspect most people on this web site would use that as both a descriptive and pejorative term for you, though.

Now you're comparing this family to animals?

No, I very clearly wasn't. But being as ignorant as you are I can see where you'd miss that.

And again, you miss my point - and with such a display of ignorance that I have decided to come out with my next reason for loving the U.S. - Reason #2: you're not an American. B)

No doubt I'd fail to live up to the reality TV standards you so admire. But good luck. If this family got a show your place in line must surely be moving forward.

I believe he was talking about London, Ontario - where he lives. <_<

If you don't think Canada has a "class and education problem," methinks you spend too much time in your ivory tower.

If it's not me doing it, it's not an embarrassment to me. Do you also feel successful due to other people's accomplishments?

If "most people" on this web site think I'm ignorant, that says a lot more about them than it does me. That some of you feel the need to talk about how "everyone on this web site feels about [me]" says a helluva lot more about you than it does me.

No doubt I'd fail to live up to the reality TV standards you so admire.

This is a fine example of your ignorance, as you call me ignorant. I've clearly said that I don't watch the show, that I don't watch reality tv, that my comments are not about the quality of the show, and have nothing to do with the quality of the show. Yet here you are making a completely ignorant statement like this.

But good luck. If this family got a show your place in line must surely be moving forward.

Speaking of ignorance, I'll let your post speak for itself....

i don't think this thread will come anywhere close to the number of pages in the american woman's misunderstood mosque near ground zero thread.

uhhh, was that the Islamic community center development that actually wasn't anywhere near, 'ground zero'? Where did that all settle out, anyway? In any case, about the oft expressed "opportunity" within this thread... was a similar opportunity championed in that other misunderstood thread?

There is freedom, and then there is good taste.

You're going to try and tell me that Canada has a class and education problem? From all your keen years of personal observation? Have you ever even been to Canada?

For the most part, Schools in Canada are of a similar quality. There are exceptions, but not the massive variance one sees in American schools between the cities and the suburbs (to say nothing of private schools, which are vast in number). The huge disparities which exist in the US among classes really don't exist here. Anyone you meet could be from anywhere, rural or urban, and their parents could be farmers or lawyers. You really can't tell, for the most part. I've been to a lot of small towns and never met anything similar to that family, yet that family is not terribly unusual in the US. Most of the people I meet in small towns are similar to those I meet in cities, maybe just a little more conservative, on average. We don't have the herds of sheep-loving bumpkins you have down there.

I guess we have a different view of how much of an "opportunity" this is for Honey Boo-Boo and her family. I hope they're getting a lot of money for this. That's all I can say. That's the only good thing that can come of this for this family. This is the modern day equivalent of the Freak Show Circus, and I just hope they're being paid a lot better than the Bearded Lady and the Dog-Faced Boy.

$40,000 paid for the entire first season of Honey Boo Boo.

More than they had, but with the ratings being what they are, I'm thinking they are underpaid and (going out on a limb) there is no ratings bonus in the contract.

For every dumb new show there are tons of others on NG or DW that brings up the IQ.

TLC, aka The Lame CHannel has been heading for the basement for some time now.

We have the same in Canada , dont delude yourself.

Think of the 10% rule.

If we have one, they have ten.

That it appears as if ignorant people abound, the problem is merely a ten fold appearance of same.

I will agree that there may well be a wider variance, but , getour country's population to 300M+ and see what happens.
