The_Squid Posted August 31, 2012 Report Posted August 31, 2012 Ya I've said this before. Some would say that Obama is still too popular so we will throw whoever we got against him so he is no winning by acclimation. And keep our better candidates till 2016. But its not about Obama being that good. Its about the republican party slowly dying out. When a real alternative party takes root in the US.Kiss the republicans and the tea party goodbye. WWWTT There will be no 3rd party. That's the problem with a 2 party system that is so entrenched, particularly now that a very few with huge dollars can simply keep it afloat. These are the two parties in the USA, as far into the future as one can see. And the real insidious part is the republicans are attempting (and succeeding) in making it more difficult for Democrats to be elected with new voter suppression legislation in Republican controlled states. I never suggested that there ever would be a multi party system in existence there since they are not a parliament. Shady Posted August 31, 2012 Report Posted August 31, 2012 Yet it has nothing to do with this election and I really don't care about it. Go figure. It has to do with the convention, which is what this thread is about. Quote

What I suggested was that when a new likeable alternative comes around, the republicans are gone. But who knows, perhaps the smoke and mirror propaganda machine in the US can pull some magic. WWWTT What does having a parliament have anything to do with it? Parliament governments must keep the confidence of the legislature, and the executive (PM) in a parliamentary system comes from the parliamentary legislature itself. Therefore the stakes are much higher in a parliament legistlature than from a legislature in a presidential system of government where the legislature and executive are not fused. Therefore, I would it think that more than 2 parties would be easier to maintain in a presidential system than a parliamentary system. Guest Derek L Posted September 1, 2012 Report Posted September 1, 2012 And what it all boils down to: Reuters/Ipsos Poll: Romney Takes Small Lead Over Obama With Convention 'Bounce' And as much as I think he’s an idiot: "I think people should start to practice the words 'President Romney.' Filmmaker Michael Moore joined HuffPost Live Thursday and predicted that the influence of money in politics would lift Mitt Romney to victory over President Barack Obama in November."Mitt Romney is going to raise more money than Barack Obama. That should guarantee his victory," Moore told host Josh Zepps. "I think people should start to practice the words 'President Romney.' To assume that the other side are just a bunch of ignoramuses who are supported by people who believe that Adam and Eve rode on dinosaurs 6,000 years ago is to completely misjudge the opposition." Moore said he believes that if the election were conducted "American Idol"-style, and Americans were able to vote from their couches, Obama "would win hands down." "That's not what's gonna happen," he told Zepps. "This election's going to be decided on who gets out the most people that day. Who's up at four in the morning, making sure that dozens, hundreds, thousands of people in their communities are getting out to vote. And the Republican machine that is set up and the money behind it to guarantee [what] is really the only important thing -- turnout on that day -- that's what looks pretty scary here." At the end of the day there is still plenty of time, the polling is within the margin of error (And I don’t really jump up and down, nor wring my hands over polling results until the last week) and the race is just to close to call at the moment………We’ll see what type of bounce Obama gets from the Democratic convention next week………. But if one has to predict today, I’ll go with: Republican congress +/- a few seats as current A very slim Republican take-over of the Senate (I’d have given them closer to 60 prior to Akin) And Robamney eking out a close win for POTUS, with the loser claiming voter fraud. Smallc Posted September 1, 2012 Report Posted September 1, 2012 Obama will eat Romney's lunch. After last night's speech non performance by Romney, that's almost certain. Just wait for the debates. Quote

Shady Posted September 1, 2012 Report Posted September 1, 2012 Anyways, Survey USA has a new poll reflecting some of the results of the convention. Romney did really well among Florida voters. Clint Eastwood did well too, suprisingly. In Florida: Early 1st Reaction to Speeches at Republican Convention, Movement Towards Romney Among Persuadables Among Florida voters to Eastwood’s speech was 49% positive to only 24% negative. The overall split is positive in almost all demos except Democrats (30/45) and liberals (26/58). Majorities of independents (51/26), seniors (54/20), men (54/24) approved of it, but the biggest positive response came from Hispanics, 62/21 — even better than Republicans (58/12). Even women (44/25) and black voters (43/37) liked Eastwood’s extemporaneous riff on President Obama. Survey USA Quote
punked Posted September 1, 2012 Report Posted September 1, 2012 He had trouble with John McCain, who's like a hundred years old! This is an example of how you have lost touch with reality. Obama beat MaCain by almost 100 electoral votes. It isn't like bush who won one election By 200 votes in 1 state and 5000 votes in 1 state the second time. Now let me say this Romney is not half the politician or man John McCain was and McCain wasn't very good. Soooooooooooooooo. Quote
Shady Posted September 1, 2012 Report Posted September 1, 2012 This is an example of how you have lost touch with reality. Obama beat MaCain by almost 100 electoral votes. Not because of his debates. He's actually a quite mediocre debater. Quote

It isnt like more people and real Indies were watching here comes honey boo boo or football or anything. This is what we call a sampling error shady and you have no clue how dumb you look when say otherwise. On that night people voted with their remotes. Quote

Shady Posted September 1, 2012 Report Posted September 1, 2012 Yep it couldn't be that people who watch the Conventions are already inclined to support republicans anyway at all. The sample breakdown of the poll is provided by Survey USA. Obviously you didn't bother reading it. It isnt like more people and real Indies were watching here comes honey boo boo or football or anything. The poll is of registered Florida voters, which almost 70% watched the convention Thursday night. This is what we call a sampling error shady and you have no clue how dumb you look when say otherwise. On that night people voted with their remotes. No sampling error. You didn't even bother to look at the data. That fact is obvious. You have no clue how dumb you look when you post about things you haven't bothered looking into. Quote

You are telling me 15 million or 40 percent of them were from Florida that isn't a good thing either and sounds unbelievable. Considering only 60 percent of them vote. Should throw up same red flags for you Shady. Quote

punked Posted September 1, 2012 Report Posted September 1, 2012 (edited) Correction after looking up the numbers only 30 million people watched on the last night of the convention. Meaning half of them would be from Florida. That doesn't sound like a bad poll at all. It just means that NO ONE watched from ANY other state. Why is that good for Romney that NO swing state besides Florida watched? I have no clue. Face it Shady. What you are saying either makes no sense at all and is a bad poll OR no one in Any state besides Florida watched the Convention meaning this thing is over because Romney not only needs to win Flordia, he needs to win Ohio, Virgina, Wisconsin, and some either Midwest states or Western states. There is no shinning that turd. Edited September 1, 2012 by punked Quote

-TSS- Posted September 1, 2012 Report Posted September 1, 2012 That was a bit of news to me that the convention approved of Romney's choice of Ryan as a VP-candidate. Previously I thought the nominee can pick anyone he likes but apparently the convention must agree. Well, that must be just a formality. On the other hand, didn't Nixon have hard time to have Spiro Agnew acepted as his running-mate? Quote

You need according to the rules a plurality of delegates from 5 states/territories to place a name in nomination, Ron Paul actually got 6 but because Romney's people were running the convention they just ignored that.
