cybercoma Posted June 4, 2012 Report Posted June 4, 2012 For Harper to receive a knighthood from the Queen, without input from the British government, it would have to be either by the Queen appointing him a Knight Grand Cross or a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, or by advising the Queen himself to grant him a knighthood. Neither is very likely at all. Now that would be funny. Stephen Harper advises her to grant him a knighthood. Quote
cybercoma Posted June 4, 2012 Report Posted June 4, 2012 There were a lot of discoveries in other nations. But the Europeans were the only ones who used them, adapted them, built on them, and managed to launch themselves into the industrial age because of them. So the Industrial Revolution was at least in part due to racial superiority. I see.... Quote

cybercoma Posted June 4, 2012 Report Posted June 4, 2012 Perhaps you could describe it properly? I wouldn't say "properly." How and why the IR happened is up for interpretation. Quote
DogOnPorch Posted June 4, 2012 Report Posted June 4, 2012 I wouldn't say "properly." How and why the IR happened is up for interpretation. No it isn't. You've probably never heard of the Enlightenment, either, I gather. What sort of revisionism would you apply to that? Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.
cybercoma Posted June 4, 2012 Report Posted June 4, 2012 No it isn't. You've probably never heard of the Enlightenment, either, I gather. What sort of revisionism would you apply to that? Yeah. I've never heard of the Enlightenment. Jared Diamond had a very different take on how and why the Industrial Revolution happened when and where it did as compared to someone like Max Weber. Quote

cybercoma Posted June 4, 2012 Report Posted June 4, 2012 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Watt Doh... Doh, what? How does this explain why it happened there and not somewhere else? Why was Watt the one to make this advance and not someone on some other continent? What else was going on at the time? Quote
Jack Weber Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 What does 'There are no millionaire Communists' mean to you? In the Chinese sense it means they gave up on Mao's vision for the country and embraced... Something else on the other side of the political spectrum but equally authoritarian.... Wilber Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 Now that would be funny. Stephen Harper advises her to grant him a knighthood. He could advise all he wants, he's just another one of many Prime Ministers she has dealt with over the past 60 years and likely won't be the last. wyly Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 Our history? Our history is in 1914 WE Canada entered WW1 as just another common wealth country supporting the King. just to be clear we Canada did not have a choice to enter WW1 Britain decided for us, implying we were a sovereign country is a stretch... Something else on the other side of the political spectrum but equally authoritarian.... OK then so how well is YOUTUBE doing in China? I never recall communist China ever embracing hard line Marxist beliefs?? I remember the Soviets having some beliefs vaguely but not the Chinese. How many times have you been to China and where and who do you know there? You guys seem to know all about how China abandoned communism so please tell me whats Maos' vision was. Last time I was in China(June 2011) I was watching the communist political channel on tv and the party was still in control with an extremely high support from the people so to me it sounds like some people here are just making stuff up! Fletch 27 Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 No, he couldn't care less... He's got his attention on the economy and remaining the envy of all other countries.. A Mulroney he is not...
