Boges Posted May 22, 2012 Report Posted May 22, 2012 Saw it yesterday to avoid the rush of comic book fanboys. Can't say enough good stuff about this movie. Could have done without Archery Man but all the "real super heroes" were epic. Oh and Scarlett Johansson was a nice addition. You really have to have seen Iron Man 2, Captain America and Thor to know what's going on. There is a Hulk movie from a few years back with Edward Norton as Bruce Banner that was aight. They had an Tony Stark cameo in the movie. This hulk was far better. A movie with Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner would be great. Seeing the final battle scene in 3D where they pan from hero to hero was some of the best special effects I've ever seen. Quote
Moonlight Graham Posted May 23, 2012 Report Posted May 23, 2012 Would like to see it, grew up a big comic fan, but in no rush. Ya Hawkeye aka Archery Man lol doesn't seem to fit the motif of "Earth's Mightiest Heroes", nor does Ant-Man nor Wasp and some others, but Hawkeye is a longtime mainstay of the team. If you're gonna make an "all-star" team of Marvel heroes don't you have to put guys like Spider-Man and Wolverine in there? Though those don't really qualify as "earth's mightiest", but who cares. The Justice League, DC's equivalent, is made up of heroes like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern etc., a true all-star cast! A bit of a spoiler but at the end they show a preview of the next movie where they show this enemy called Thanos. My more comic book literate friends were saying he's the enemy for something called Infinity Gauntlet. Apparently much of Marvel got together to defeat him. That would include Spiderman, Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer etc.. It was pointed out that the current Captain America was the human torch in the Final Four movies. So another re-boot would be in order. A Justice League America movie would be tough considering the current state of the Batman franchise. You'd have to bring in a new Batman and perhaps a new Superman unless you want to bring back the guy from that horrible 2006 movie. Would Ryan Reynolds be in there too or would it be a bran new cast across the board. Quote
BubberMiley Posted May 23, 2012 Report Posted May 23, 2012 How was Hawkeye not amazing, exactly? Compared to the other members, he had the power of...Katniss. Quote "I think it's fun watching the waldick get all excited/knickers in a knot over something." -scribblet
Smallc Posted May 23, 2012 Report Posted May 23, 2012 True...but he's just a guy...which in many ways makes his that much more amazing. Quote
Smallc Posted May 23, 2012 Report Posted May 23, 2012 Actually, when you think of it, he's pretty similar to batman. Quote
BubberMiley Posted May 24, 2012 Report Posted May 24, 2012 Actually, when you think of it, he's pretty similar to batman. If all Batman could do was shoot arrows well. Quote "I think it's fun watching the waldick get all excited/knickers in a knot over something." -scribblet
Smallc Posted May 24, 2012 Report Posted May 24, 2012 If all Batman could do was shoot arrows well. Batman was just a guy with gadgets. Hawkeye can shoot fast and accurate, and has exploding arrows. Quote
Boges Posted May 24, 2012 Author Report Posted May 24, 2012 (edited) Batman was just a guy with gadgets. Hawkeye can shoot fast and accurate, and has exploding arrows. So anyone could be equipped with exploding arrows. Did he invent the exploding arrows? Comparing Hawkeye to Batman is like comparing Hawkeye to Iron Man. Then again if you believe the re-boot of the Batman movies Morgan Freeman equipped Batman with all his stuff. Edited May 24, 2012 by Boges Quote
Smallc Posted May 24, 2012 Report Posted May 24, 2012 Comparing Hawkeye to Batman is like comparing Hawkeye to Iron Man. Not even close. Iron Man has a suit that puts him in a league with a God. Batman...isn't....neither is Hawkeye. What makes him amazing is that he can shoot like no ones business. He can shoot fast, and always hit his target. Quote
TimG Posted May 24, 2012 Report Posted May 24, 2012 What makes him amazing is that he can shoot like no ones business. He can shoot fast, and always hit his target. What is the difference between Iron Man's suit and Hawkeye's bow/arrows? Both are technology that violates the laws of physics. Quote
Smallc Posted May 24, 2012 Report Posted May 24, 2012 What is the difference between Iron Man's suit and Hawkeye's bow/arrows? Both are technology that violates the laws of physics. True....except that at the heart of Iron Man's suit is Tony Stark's internal power source and genius. I just find hawkeye to be pretty cool, considering that he isn't a God, and isn't wearing a nearly invincible suit. Quote

kimmy Posted July 3, 2012 Report Posted July 3, 2012 I just saw this, and I can confirm that it was AWESOME! I have been a Joss Whedon fan for a very long time, and I am very glad that he now has a super-mega smash hit success on his resume. Finally the rest of the world recognizes what us geeks have known all along. Would like to see it, grew up a big comic fan, but in no rush. Ya Hawkeye aka Archery Man lol doesn't seem to fit the motif of "Earth's Mightiest Heroes", nor does Ant-Man nor Wasp and some others, but Hawkeye is a longtime mainstay of the team. The story made his presence make sense, in the same way that Nick Fury's and Black Widow's did. By presenting him as more or less an exceptional S.H.I.E.L.D. agent rather than as a "super hero", they explained his involvement without having to come up with a dorky explanation as to why a regular guy with a bow belongs alongside the god of thunder and a monster that can break a mountain with one punch. He was more or less called "Barton" the whole film, as Black Widow was "Agent Romanova" for the most part; I think "Hawkeye" and "Black Widow" were mentioned a couple of times more or less as nicknames. But it would be completely out of character for either Wolverine or Spiderman to work for a big government operation like S.H.I.E.L.D. How was Hawkeye not amazing, exactly? The concept of a guy in a costume who runs around with a bow fighting crime is pretty retarded, and I was pretty skeptical about how he would turn out. But I think this interpretation of him actually worked really well. Ditching the comic book costume was a key decision, obviously. And when combined with modern communications technology and powerful allies, having a guy with incredible observation skills suddenly becomes really useful. And the variety of warheads he could put on his arrows was pretty neat. It did bug me that the number of shafts in his quiver never seemed to decrease, even well into a half-hour long battle scene. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
August1991 Posted July 4, 2012 Report Posted July 4, 2012 OMG! I used to think that, on this forum, I was surrounded by idiots. Now I realize that I am surrounded by 14 year old fans of 1950s comic books. Quote
cybercoma Posted July 4, 2012 Report Posted July 4, 2012 August, I can't stand superhero comics. I've tried reading them, but I just can't get into them. On the other hand, I do enjoy literary and non-fictional graphic literature. I saw the Avengers at an IMAX in 3D. It was a fantastic action movie. Have you seen it or you just criticizing people to criticize? Quote

kimmy Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 The "superhero" genre has been with us for over 70 years, and seems more popular than ever. Three of this year's 4 biggest movies to date (#1 Avengers, #2 Batman, and #4 Spiderman) are superhero movies, and it's been that way for several years running. I would suggest that the enduring, and increasing, popularity of the superhero genre is not likely to be explained by an unexpected increase in the number of 14 year olds in North America. Perhaps there is something else at work. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
TimG Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 (edited) I would suggest that the enduring, and increasing, popularity of the superhero genreI see Marval/DC Comics as the modern version of the Brothers Grimm. They created characters and story arcs that have become of part of the culture and they will be retold forever. Just look at how many remakes of Snow White have been done in the last 20 years. bleeding heart Posted October 18, 2012 Report Posted October 18, 2012 I often like the superhero movies; so I don't know if I'm simply growing weary, or if they're rather starting to stink. In the past month, I've watched Thor, which I found mediocre; The Avengers, which was only slightly more entertaining to me; and Captain America, which I am thisclose to saying that it sucks. cybercoma Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 (edited) I really enjoyed Avengers. I saw it in 3D at an IMAX theatre though. Took my elderly mother and she was blown away. It was an awesome experience. Edited October 19, 2012 by cybercoma Quote
