Guest American Woman Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 Sure some people will take advantage of anything when they can. Most good people don't. Exactly. And those "good people" are allowed to homeschool their children; there is no punishment. Sure, as long as home schooled children can pass the government state run school tests, then there is no problem. Exactly. Which really makes me wonder what you were referring to earlier. Quote
cybercoma Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 And how is that the State's problem? Because we live in a society and those kids are part of that society. Quote
GostHacked Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 Because we live in a society and those kids are part of that society. So are these parents, they need to grow up and take responsibility of their children so the rest of us don't have to support them. Sure parents need help, and society can do that, but the parents need to step up and do the right things before society can really take up the slack. More and more parents are letting the TV babysit a child, more and more don't want to be responsible but gives the state crap when the parents fail the child. Kind of off topic now but .... schools are now taking over what the parents do. Teaching them about sex education, telling them what to eat (chicken nuggets is good, ham sandwich on whole wheat, bad). The state is also trying to take some responsibilities away from the parents, which should not happen. Quote
Michael Hardner Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 So are these parents, they need to grow up and take responsibility of their children so the rest of us don't have to support them. You're missing the point. They DON'T do it. So what happens then ? Kind of off topic now but .... schools are now taking over what the parents do. Teaching them about sex education, telling them what to eat (chicken nuggets is good, ham sandwich on whole wheat, bad). The state is also trying to take some responsibilities away from the parents, which should not happen. It's not taking them away. It's providing back-up so that the children are taught something, even if the parents don't take their responsibility. Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner
-TSS- Posted April 17, 2012 Author Report Posted April 17, 2012 I think parents are allowed to home-school their children provided by that they are qualified and informative enough on quite a large number of subjects. Depends on the age of the children too. Quote
The_Squid Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 So can anyone define what a "gateway sex act" is? If it is not defined, how do they ban its teaching/promotion? Quote
Guest American Woman Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 So can anyone define what a "gateway sex act" is? If it is not defined, how do they ban its teaching/promotion? Sex education varies a lot from district to district in some states, so perhaps this law is written the way it is so districts can put their own interpretation on it. Quote
Shady Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 So can anyone define what a "gateway sex act" is? Not really, it's completely subjective. If it is not defined, how do they ban its teaching/promotion? They aren't banning or not teaching anything based on so-called gateway acts. Quote

Guest American Woman Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Gazing longingly across the classroom. Next thing you know, BAM! Underage mother. Of course that's you saying that, not "Tennessee," not this bill. I find it really interesting that all of the hyperbole about what "gateway sex" constitutes is coming from the "critics" of this bill for including what they say it includes. They are the ones coming up with extreme examples - as they attribute their examples to "Tennessee," and criticize Tennessee for it. Quote

But do keep it up. I find it amusing (though I'm not laughing with you .... ) And speaking of funny - Horny Montreal teens will return to school this fall yet again without guaranteed sex education. Quebec's education ministry can't confirm if promised new programming will be offered by 2012 either. ... it's normal to come across Montreal youth who don't know how pregnancy happens, how sexually transmitted infections are spread, or how to access a morning after pill. Some teachers and administrators may avoid sex education because they misperceive it as encouragement for promiscuity, she said, or they may lack the knowledge, security, or the time to include it in an already packed schedule. Or if it is taught, said Turner Ritchie, the approach may be punitive, misinformed, or use scare tactics. . Poor, deprived "horny Montreal teens." Now that's something to make jokes about, eh? Quote

Guest American Woman Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 (edited) You think they came up with "gateway sex?" Of course not, and "holding hands" wasn't the driving force behind the bill: Proponents say the move is necessary to prevent a recurrence of recent controversies in Nashville and Knox County schools, which faced a backlash after teachers mentioned to high school students that there were alternatives they might try short of sexual intercourse. link But yeah, I'm sure "holding hands" is what was being mentioned as an alternative they might try short of sexual intercourse.
