Smallc Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 I'm not sure why this is such a big deal to you. I think it comes out of some need to see yourself and your country is above all others. There is no country that is more important than any other to the united states...or there are some that are juts as important as others. Quite frankly, it's a ridiculous belief on your part. This is like every other argument with you. It's pointless. Quote
Guest American Woman Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 I'm not sure why this is such a big deal to you. A big deal to me?? You're the one who keeps bringing it up - as you did again in this thread. I think it comes out of some need to see yourself and your country is above all others. Ummmm... excuse me, but YOU'RE the one with "some need to see .. your country [as] above all others." You are the one with the need to believe that Canada is the most important nation to the U.S. Good grief. There is no country that is more important than any other to the united states...or there are some that are juts as important as others. Wow. Just wow. How does this statement fit in with your claim that Canada is THE MOST IMPORTANT country to the U.S.? I'M the one who has been saying that there is no country that is more important to the U.S. than any other - as YOU claim Canada is. So where is this coming from??? Quite frankly, it's a ridiculous belief on your part. This is like every other argument with you. It's pointless. Yeah, it's pointless and ridiculous because it's counter to your belief. Quote

bush_cheney2004 Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 I isn't my belief. It's the truth. You continue to deny it, for some strange reason. As we have already discussed, no single nation is "most important" to the USA. The United States is far more important to Canada. Just because Canada has chosen to be so integrated does not preclude the US from being more diversified. I think it is better for Canada to seek far more international diversification instead of relying on something that may not exist. These are nation states, not neighbours. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Smallc Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 As we have already discussed, no single nation is "most important" to the USA. Which again, is a ridiculous notion. Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 Which again, is a ridiculous notion. Yes...just ridiculous...how could the USA even consider that Canada is not the most important nation on the entire earth? No, the entire solar system! Canada....America's BFF Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
GostHacked Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 The EU now advertises the most integrated economic relationship with the United States: EU-US economic cooperation The EU and the US enjoy the most integrated economic relationship in the world, illustrated by unrivaled levels of mutual investment stocks, reaching over €2.1 trillion. Total US investment in the EU is three times higher than in all of Asia and EU investment in the US is around eight times the amount of EU investment in India and China together. The huge American market has many suitors....Canada is no longer viewed by the USA in a last century context. Go global or go home. Sure let's integrate all the world's failing economies into one super huge failing economy. Quote
cybercoma Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 Canada is the largest importer of US products. It imports as much as the second and third place countries combined. It's pretty clear Canada is the single most important trading partner the US has. Quote

It's pretty clear Canada is the single most important trading partner the US has. Canada also supplies more energy than any other country to the US, and is also one of the largest suppliers of manufactured goods. Besides that, Canada and the US share an air defence perimeter, and have signed several mutual defence agreements that allow either country's military to operate in the other in a time of emergency. But I'm sure the US would be as fine losing Canada as a trading partner as they would be if Brazil or Singapore stopped trading with them. Quote

bush_cheney2004 Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 The EU isn't a country. The EU is an economic entity that is now very important to US trade, with a higher export/import trade volume than Canada. China may displace Canada as #2 this decade. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

It's pretty clear Canada is the single most important trading partner the US has. There are interests other than trading that are also important to the U.S. - which is why no one country is "most important." I honestly don't get this need to be "most" important. You are as important as some others, more important than most. That's the best you're going to get. Quote

They have a population aging problem that would make Western Europe blush. The EU doesn't have to be a country to be the most important for trade volume with the United States. As a single country, the order of magnitude smaller economy of Canada will not be able to keep up with the big dogs. Using your measure, the State of California is more important economically to the US, as its economy is larger than Canada's. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
