Thanks, Jack. I was going to say something about their recycling of plastic bags.

See dre. Was that hard?

Frankly, considering the Khmer Rouge and it's detesting of all things intellectual, artistic, and, religious based...I'm surprised they didn't just blow the place up!!!

Ya' know...Kinda like the Taliban and how it destroyed many ancient religious edifices and artifacts...

I'd submit The Wailing Wall would be a better target...The Pyramids are a cash cow!!!

al-Qaradawi was on about something the MB call 'gradualism' which is the slow installment of a 'true Islamic society'. With their Jihad attitude, the plan seems more to steel from the local Christains and killing the planet's Jews rather than any plans for normal tourism, et al. The Army is in a bit of a bind. While they're still driving the car, the kids are getting very rowdy in the backseat.

What a Hobsian choice for sane Egyptians...

Fascist Pan Arab Nationalists propped up by (of course) the Egyptian military....

Or...

The duplicitous Muslim Brotherhood, pretending to be all worldly and sane, being propped up by the Islamofascist Salafists...

The Salafists are to the MB as the SS was to the Nazi Party. Classic Machiavelli. That way the MB can claim to be moderate and plural. Trouble is after a few decades of the BS, we've learned what the word taqiyya means. Well...some of us.

Senegal has Parliamentary elections today. These come in the wake of Presidential elections held in February and March.

Then President Wade attempted to run for a third term, something many saw as illegal. Wade's party, the Democratic Party, held nearly all the seats in Parliament after the opposition boycotted the last parliamentary election.

Macky Sall ran against Wade, and managed to defeat him on the second round, even beating Wade in his own constituency. Wade manned up and announced he had been defeated.

The 2007 Parliamentary elections, as mentioned, had been boycotted. The result was thus 131 seats for the Democratic Party and their Sopi coalition, and 19 seats for everyone else.

The Democratic Party considers itself Liberal, partly because of a law that was passed in 1976 that said the only parties allowed are Socialist, Communist, and Liberal, and the first two were already taken. In reality the party is a personality based catch all party often found in developing countries.

In the 2001 Parliamentary elections, the Democrats won 89 seats, with the Progressives winning 11, and the Socialists winning 10. It was from these two opposition parties that the 3rd and 4th placed candidates in the Presidential election were from.

Sall himself was from the Democratic Party. His new Alliance Party was set up to support him, and could do well in these elections.

No polls have been done.

Sall's party is expected to win a majority (counting)

In Mexico, the PRI Candidate for President is leading with 37% of the vote, with the leftist Obrador has 33%, and the right-wing candidate, the first Female to run for the office from a major party, is far behind at 25%. This is with 2/3rds of ballots counted.

Mexico

In the Senate there were 32 seats up for grabs.

PRI-18

PAN-8

PRD-6

PRI totals include 10 straight PRI candidates, and 8 merged PRI-Greens.

But the method for electing Senators is very strange, thus the end result will actually be as follows.

For the winners you double the number

PRI-26

PAN-16

PRD-12

Then the second placed party also gets a seat

PAN-13

PRI-12

PRD-7

Subtotal of

PRI-39

PAN-28

PRD-19

Then an element of PR

PRI-13

PRD-9

PAN-9

ALL-1

Totals

PRI-52

PAN-37

PRD-28

ALL-1

if my numbers are right, and they may not be.

House results:

PRI-176

PRD-70

PAN-54

PRI totals include 50 candidates elected as straight PRI candidates. 3 Greens. and 123 PRI-Green merged Candidates.

There is also an element of PR. The results being

PRI-81

PRD-56

PAN-55

ALL-8

For a trand total of:

PRI-257

PRD-126

PAN-99

ALL-8

Note the Alliance is Mexico's Liberal party

In East Timor, CNRT has won a reported 36.7% of the vote, compared to FRETLIN's 29.9%, meaning nobody would have a majority. Both parties are talking; they are also talking to the Democratic Party, which took 10.3% of the vote.

Final results are not expected until the 17th.

Unofficial counts have come out from Libya.

The Muslim Brotherhood has conceded that unlike in Tunisia and Egypt, they will not win this election; rather the Liberals will win the most seats. The Liberals agree with this assessment, citing party counters at polling booths, and another party backs up this claim.
