They're Canada's team until the Jets win the cup in 2 or 3 years!!! Just kidding, but seriously, but just kidding.

Another Canucks home game that had to be played on Toronto time. Good thing the Leafs got thumped.

When the game is set up, its all about the ratings in order to pay the bills.

Not that they did themselves any favours but the scheduler does not have a crystal ball.

I'm still trying to figure out why you called them Canada's team in the OP.

Evidence? 62 pages of it. Love and or hate them , everyone has an opinion on them .

Any other team fill anothers rink night after night?

Any other team return the numbers to charge advertisers the amount they do?

Being the most popular team does not make them "Canada's team." It makes them the most popular team.

...ergo Canada's Team.

Caveat, until a team makes a run in the playoffs (Calgary way back,Van a few yrs ago, Sens almost a decade ago) the Leafs remain that.

When said playoff run is over ,revert back to form.

no ergo. I can see how the BlueJays are Canada's team because there is no other team in Canada. But as soon as you have other teams in other Canadian cities, there is no national team. Even though the Liberals are the most popular political party, it doesn't make them "Canada's political party," even though they are the naturally governing one.

bubber, dont take it literally.

But there's nothing else to debate when everyone is in agreement that they suck.

No, 'Canadas team' has to refer to a team that Canada would cheer for in default of their own.

That does not aply to the Leafs. Only Leafs fans cheer for the Leafs. And lately, not so many of those either. It's just part of the Leafs Nation ego-wank that they think they matter.

There will be people at the Oilers Leafs game cheering for the Leafs. But the last laugh belongs to the Oilers season ticket holders who will sell their seats for $300 or $400 to some expat economic refugee Ontarian(whose number is legion in Alberta) who thinks it is worth that to watch two very shitty teams play. You have to drink a lot of beer to enjoy that.

They'll beat Edmonton tonight. The Leafs just don't have the fortitude to tank like the Oilers and Sabres do. They really want it! The Leafs can play shitty, but aren't good enough to play that shitty.

The Oilers are not tanking, they really are that bad, and they now have a long history of being that bad. If they were trying to tank , they;d have traded away what passes for good players on the team. The only trade they made at the trade deadline was for a pending UFA they were going to lose anyway. Toronto, on the other hand, has been crapping their pants hard in an effort to get a draft pick. Everybody was for sale at the deadline, and they found a few takers..

Hmm....pretty sure they are happy to be able to unload a ticket . But curious how the one person buying a couple tickets is the funny one versus the idiot who spends a crapload more on seasons tickets isnt?

Anyhow...Thanks, that makes the case for canada's team.

All else pales in comparison. Sales, revenue,TV ratings, merchandise,

The Dallas Cowboys are "America's team", even when they suck.

Yes, it was a silly marketing ploy by Dallas, but hardly agreed upon by the fans of all the other teams. The only team it makes sense for is the Blue Jays and that's only until the Expos return.

I'll explain it to you.

At the beginning of the season, when you pay for the whole season of tickets, the fans hearts are filled with hope. By this point in the season, the season ticket holder knows there is no hope. However, there is always an idiot with a Leafs jersey on willing to pay far too much to watch not one but two garbage teams. Curiosity resolved? Hope that helps.

You're right, they are delighted to unload the tickets for any price, but the Toronto and Montreal games are really the only ones that command a premium. Economic refugees fleeing the horror of Ontario...... But still, the traitors who won't cheer for "Canadas Team" outnumber the Leafs fans.

only until the Expos return.

why would MLB even consider coming back to Montreal?

The attendance was below National League averages for the last 20 years of the teams existence, and far below average for the last 7 or so.

If the A's or Ray's can't secure a new stadium in the near future AND if Montreal can pledge to build a new stadium, it could happen. Last year the Jays had preseason games at the Big I and it sold out twice. They're doing it again this year.

Problem is, it'd be hard to decide to build a stadium unless there's a guarantee of a team.

No need to. I understand it clearly.

But I guess I could walk up and buy the setas being offered....right this second , and pay $65. Neither team would make me do that.

Or sit just off the glass for $146. So there are folks who spend more. Ok

Would seem that with the availablity of seats,at pretty cheap rates, $300 or $400 is a pipe dream. If they get that, good for them, free market.

You're right, they are delighted to unload the tickets for any price, but the Toronto and Montreal games are really the only ones that command a premium.

NO doubt.

Economic refugees fleeing the horror of Ontario......

LOL, you keep trying to sell that. Best check your own backyard.

But still, the traitors who won't cheer for "Canadas Team" outnumber the Leafs fans.

Id hope so, its their home rink. But we both know that far more Leaf fans exist anywhere than any other team.

There has been talk of Vancouver getting a team since at least 2011, they have many immigrants from the pacific islands who are very much fans of the MLB. They have the Vancouver Canadians which are currently the Jays single A minor league affiliate and actually sold out 23 games last season. The economics of baseball can be pesky though, without a salary cap it would take a group of some incredibly rich people to make it happen. Not sure if many people in the Vancouver area have the love of baseball and the money to really make it happen.

It would be great to see both Van and Mtl get a team.

Natural rivalry with Seattle and it would appear Van will support a team. But who much will they? I have a feeling ther is some residual doubt left from the NBA Grizzlies leaving many moons ago.

As for the Mtl Expos, MLB knows they shafted them, it is no secret they royally F'd them over to get that team out of there. Loria is a giant douchebag and MLB knows it. MLB wishes they never had that dickhead as one of their own.

But again, it comes down to $$$ and if our dollar goes south like $0.62 again....it makes it doubly hard to convince anyone at MLB HQ to move on this.

Yikes the leafs are even having trouble with Edmonton.

Montreal has to explain why they had 20 years, yes that is 20 years, of low attendance and about 7 years of pathetic attendance prior to their departure.

They would also have to find somebody willing to build a big stadium with free rent for the new team.

The ownership group and the fact that they couldn't compete financially.

Expo fans saw some of the best players of that era go to other teams one by one. Just look at the 1994 Expos roster, it's a who's who of great 90's Baseball players.

Revenue sharing for teams is a bit better now and MLB teams like the Miami Marlins can actually make money playing to empty seats. If an ownership group that wanted to win emerges it could be a success.

Bell would be a perfect owner for a Montreal team. TSN doesn't get a piece of the Rogers owned Blue Jays and Rogers also has a good majority of Hockey. TSN needs content, a competing baseball team would be perfect.

Thats Leafs game had me chuckling from the get go. (especially the goals so early and fast)

The chant Lets go Oilers followed by Go Leafs Go was in perfect harmoney .

Phil's right, this is a low time.

Wanna bet Kahdri was hoping he would be suspended for the rest of the season?

More NHL news.....

Kahdri suspended four games , he is appealing the sentence, he wants 11 game suspension.

The Leafs broke my heart, they were eliminated from the playoffs last night. Man I was so hoping they would get on a roll.
