eyeball Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 Occupy seems to be about nothing except camping out and smoking pot. That and people want money for free. Other than that I honestly cannot figure out what the message is. I don't think the Occupy people know either which has been well documented for television. The message is that the gap between the most powerful and wealthiest people and everyone else is way over the top. It's a very easy to understand. There's no mystery. The gap is so large now I guess it's like sending a message to someone around another star. It leaves a lot of time for camping out and smoking pot between sending a message and receiving a reply. Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.
charter.rights Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 It leaves a lot of time for camping out and smoking pot between sending a message and receiving a reply. That's because the receivers - government, banksters and corporations are pretty much vacant when it come to accepting responsibility. CPCFTW Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 (edited) So you admit your ability to argue is below the level of 1st year philosophy. On this we agree. Nope. I admit arguing with a first year philosophy student (who thinks listing the latest fallacies he's learned constitutes an argument) is a waste of time. Good luck with your exam on truth tables! CPCFTW Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 (edited) I doubt that. You arguments are so sophomoric that they are easily spotted. Plus it shows a real lack of intelligence when it takes you two paragraphs to construct a straw man fallacy argument. Most intelligent people can create a quasi-plausible one in a sentence. Ad hominen!! That means I can cover my ears and say "la la la la la"! What two paragraphs? "Once again, absoulutely ridiculous argument. Not surprising coming from the left" is part of my "red herring and a strawman"? You're even worse than Shwa. Wow two paragraphs to call me an idiot? Most intelligent people can do it in one word. Then the first year philosophy student easily outmatches you because your only responses to the charge of fallacy has been more fallacy in the form of ad hominem and red herring. Good luck with your rectal exam! I hope they find a way of prying your head out of there. Quote
CPCFTW Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 Police empty two canisters of pepper spray on students at UC Davis. This was only a few seconds of what went down there. A professor at Davis issued an open letter calling for the resignation of the chancellor, writing... Anyone that supports this kind of violence on peaceful protesters should be ashamed of themselves at best. Looks like it worked. They started dispersing without anything more than some watery eyes. One kid even jumped up and walked away before getting pepper sprayed. Revolution!!!!! Looks like cops using excessive force, considering one girl was sent to the hospital with chemical burns and others were vomiting blood. Did you even read the letter to the Chancellor? If students cannot express their political dissent on university campuses then where can they protest? This is nothing short of a huge violation of those students right to assemble peacefully and protest. Violently attacking peaceful students that are doing quite literally nothing more than sitting there has no place in a free and democratic society. People like you that would support this kind of violation of people's fundamental rights are a danger to our democratic institutions. You should be ashamed of yourself. Quote

I struggled to get through the first paragraph of literary masturbation, but yes I did read it. I am a junior faculty member at UC Davis. I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of English, and I teach in the Program in Critical Theory and in Science & Technology Studies. I have a strong record of research, teaching, and service. I am currently a Board Member of the Davis Faculty Association. I have also taken an active role in supporting the student movement to defend public education on our campus and throughout the UC system. In a word: I am the sort of young faculty member, like many of my colleagues, this campus needs. I am an asset to the University of California at Davis. You are not. hahahahaha Get over yourself Prof. Brown. Police used batons to try to push the students apart. Those they could separate, they arrested, kneeling on their bodies and pushing their heads into the ground. Those they could not separate, they pepper-sprayed directly in the face, holding these students as they did so. When students covered their eyes with their clothing, police forced open their mouths and pepper-sprayed down their throats. Several of these students were hospitalized. Others are seriously injured. One of them, forty-five minutes after being pepper-sprayed down his throat, was still coughing up blood. Where does it say anything about throwing up blood or chemical burns? Even the most sensationalized letter from an English professor only says that people were coughing up blood. But if it's in a letter then it must be true!! Find me a pic or video of someone throwing up blood please. There's got to be at least 500 cameras there. http://www.davisenterprise.com/media-post/ucd-police-remove-occupy-uc-davis-tents/attachment/occupyucd162/ All I found was this poor protestor rubbing his watery eyes Edited November 19, 2011 by CPCFTW Quote
cybercoma Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 Yeah. I'm sure video or pics of someone coughing up blood or the medical records of the girl rushed to hospital with chemical burns would really make you do a 180. The video speaks for itself. The letter speaks to the Chancellor's inability to protect the students. And you speak to the ignorant bastards that would have the state violently oppress those who would speak out politically against the policies you endorse. You don't deserve a say in the political process if you would deny others to have theirs. Quote

jacee Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 (edited) Who's denying their say? The students can vote. The students can protest too. It's a 'free' country ... remember that concept? There's a holier-than-thou attitude among conservatives who oppose the OCCUPY movement, and also a sadistic streak that enjoys hearing of painful punishments inflicted on others. It's a disturbing quality, uncivilized at best, and barbaric at worst. Forcing people's mouths open to pepper spray them? What is wrong with those cops! Think maybe they follow the sadism of the conservative screamers and whiners calling for blood? Sickening. I'm concluding that conservatives have no real interest in democracy at all, just conquering democracy for power and terrorizing 'lesser' beings. Edited November 20, 2011 by jacee Quote

You are projecting your own sense of entitlement. That is not what the Occupy Movement is about, at all. It is about restoring democracy and removing the power the the aristocracy now in place. When my parents came to Canada in 1959 from Sao Miguel Azores Portugaul they didn't have a freekin nickel! What they did have was a work hard ethic, dedication and some witts! My parents with what little they had made a fantastic contribution, helped build this country(literally) and were rewarded handsomeley for their efforts. But times have seriously changed.I have twice the work ethic they had and I'm not seeing the results they did. The cost of living is way way high! Gas,heat, cable, phone, insurance, hydro, taxes(fedral, provincial, municipal, sales, capital gains etc etc)food, transportation, cell phone, banking fees, etc etc etc. Everyone responsible for supplying the above services-except the government is racking up record profits! Why!?!? Why am I freekin bustin my freekin ass off so that these corporations can see record profits!?!?!Why man why?!?!?! I am fortunate enough because I have references to somewhat gage how living standards have dropped in this country over the last several decades. Just because you can't find/use/recognize/care about how the standard of living has dropped in Canada doesn't mean its not happening. And another thing if you don't want to help the people trying to improve this country then get out of the way buddy and let those who care about the future of Canada do something constructive! charter.rights Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 (edited) Is this (link to news clipping with video) about "restoring democracy"? Do you mean allowing some jack-ass to invade the privacy of someone else and then post it in the media? The use of infra-red cameras to invade peoples space has been struck down by the Courts. What kind of reaction to a violation of the law would you expect - especially since Levant was in violation of the by-law, and violating people's rights to privacy? What an ass. And yes. this is exactly the kind of entitlement, and misconstrued self-rightousness that needs to be eliminated in society.
