Japan's problems have pretty much "skunked" everything, including Canada's election talk...

Lucky Harper...

What election talk? That's skunked just by a weather report.

You must have me confused with someone... I've never peddled anything but a bike in my life...

I also don't tell anyone what to do... Not even when they want to jump in front of an oncoming train... Free choice should be free right? Surely you'll agree with that...

Glad to see you have come to your senses....free choice says that Libya ain't worth it. Frankly my dear...the world doesn't give a damn (that much).

Economics trumps Virtue.

Libya just became American policy....

Meanwhile, the Libyan National Council, representing groups in opposition to Mr. Gadhafi, may set up a representative office in Washington, U.S. Undersecretary of State William Burns said on Thursday.

“We’ve made it possible for the Libyan National Council to put up a representative office in Washington,” Mr. Burns told a Senate committee. He noted that the United States had suspended, but not formally broken, diplomatic ties with the Gadhafi government.

Mr. Burns stressed that U.S. does not have a full picture of the Libyan National Council, but said “those that we have met have struck us as being positive and serious.”

NO “BOOTS ON THE GROUND”

The United States supports international measures in Libya that are “short of boots on the ground,” Undersecretary of State William Burns said on Thursday.

Mr. Burns also told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that a no-fly zone over Libya could have “an important, positive, practical” effect, but it was still necessary to consider other measures.

He said Washington is concerned Mr. Gadhafi could “return to terrorism and violent extremism” and create turmoil in the Middle East.

Too bad waylaying this thread doesn't solve the US's dilema, maybe you'll get the UN and/or NATO to pull your chestnuts out of the fire before it's too late... I know your admin is trying real hard to do just that... ;)

I don't understand your desire to turn this into an America vs Libya, vs NATO, or vs UN. I don't understand why you think this is just an issue for America to have to deal with. If anything, it should be an issue that the Arab Leauge should be dealing with. Nobody else. Or is this just part of a trolling exercise?

Looks like Hillary is not too impressed.

Fed up with a president “who can’t make his mind up” as Libyan rebels are on the brink of defeat, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is looking to the exits.

At the tail end of her mission to bolster the Libyan opposition, which has suffered days of losses to Col. Moammar Gadhafi’s forces, Clinton announced that she’s done with Obama after 2012 — even if he wins again.

...

He went on, “If you take a look at what’s on her plate as compared with what’s on the plates of previous Secretaries of State — there’s more going on now at this particular moment, and it’s like playing sports with a bunch of amateurs. And she doesn’t have any power. She’s trying to do what she can to keep things from imploding.”

WOW! Looks like I'm "ahead of the curve" again...

I've got to learn to slow down, follow the proscribed "TIMELINES" and all that...

Oh well, too late, this thread is already up...

Realizing that Obama's foreign policy is amateur hour isn't being a head of the curve. It's been that way for 2 years now.

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree with you on this. They seem to be slow on the uptake. Funny thing is...Hillary knows better. President Obama needs his own Dick Cheney for a robust round of good cop - bad cop. The irony is that Obama is telling other leaders to get ahead of the curve.

Definitely. Which makes James Carville's previous joke all the more funny and accurate!

All of which boils down to >

Damned if you do, damned if you don't: The Bush Legacy >

doesn't it?

Personally I saw that Obama wasn't what people expected him to be the first TIME he caved to the Republicants...

I'm amazed that Hillary put up with Obama as long as she did... Maybe she thought she could give Obama a backbone, at least in "foreign affairs"... After ALL ASPECTS of US "foreign affairs" got caught flatfooted in Tunesia and Egypt that "hope" went out the window...

Now Libya has become the "tipping point" for US credibility on the "foreign front" and Hilliary has simply had enough... Still a few VERY TOUGH months ahead for that feisty lady...

Makes one wonder if Biden will be the "running mate" come next election, it's not really his type of "scenario" either...

He would like that....he requests that you bury him face down...so you can kiss his ass.

It wouldn't be his ass I would kiss if given the opportunity. If ever there is evil he is the prototype.

Oh my...do tell! I'm sure you can kiss whatever you like (in private).

Or whereever else I might be so inclined. Cheney is pond scum.

UN vote clears way for Libya air strikes

- The UN Security Council Thursday cleared the way for air strikes to halt Moamer Kadhafi's offensive against embattled rebel forces in Libya, with the first bombing raids possible within hours.

It approved a resolution permitting "all necessary measures" to impose a no-fly zone, protect civilian areas and impose a ceasefire on Kadhafi's military. -

- Diplomats have indicated that air strikes from a coalition led by Britain, France and the United States could be imminent as Kadhafi's troops close in on the rebel stronghold of Benghazi. However, the resolution rules out sending foreign ground troops.

The Libyan leader said earlier Thursday he would take the town and "chase the traitors."

Addressing the Security Council, French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe said the world had to act to support Libya, following peaceful revolts against authoritarian leaders across the Arab world.

"The world is living one of its great revolutions that changes the course of history. In North Africa, the Persian Gulf, the Arab people are calling to breathe democracy," he said.

"In Libya, alas, for a number of weeks the people's will has been shot down to its feet by Colonel Kadhafi." -

About TIME!

Let's all hope it's not too little too late...

The next couple of days or less may tell the tale...

At least by this, Libya, hopefully, won't be the total disaster it could have been...

I guess you can afford to roll your eyes since you won't be flying them!

Is there a point in that somewhere?

Read the thread title...

Libya 'to halt military action'

- 'Actions not words'

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the Libyan government would need to demonstrate it was implementing a ceasefire.

"We are going to be not responsive or impressed by words, we would have to see actions on the ground and that is not yet at all clear," she said. -
