Scotty Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 Nope. I think people in these cases become radicalised through a combination of moral dissonance and religion (which of course makes everything worse). By moral dissonance I mean the conflicting difference between what shining beacons often say about the poor huddled oppressed masses on the one hand but often do for the tyrants that are oppressing them with the other. This sort of shit obviously drives some people nuts. Why that should be so surprising to people is surprising in it's own right. Why does it only seem to drive Muslims nuts? Quote It is an inverted moral calculus that tries to persuade the world to demonize one state that tries its civilized best to abide in a difficult time and place, and rides merrily by the examples and practices of dozens of states and leaderships that drop into brutality every day without a twinge of regret or a whisper of condemnation. - Rex Murphy
Scotty Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 I recently read that the leader of the "Toronto 18" was actually planning an attack so the stock market would drop, and he could buy stocks low, then sell them when they returned to previous values, making big bucks. Sounds like a good right wing capitalist to me. Actually, a good capitalist would buy puts and then sell them when the stocks dropped. M.Dancer Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 Actually, a good capitalist would buy puts and then sell them when the stocks dropped. Exactly...good capitalists make money up and down.....clueless socialists don't make money in either direction, but they sure know how to redistribute bother peoples... eyeball Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 (edited) Why does it only seem to drive Muslims nuts? Well for starters I don't see any reason to conclude that only Muslims or that all Muslims can be driven mad by moral dissonance but my guess is that religion coupled with a culture of vengeance has at least something to do with those who are and who become terrorists. betsy Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 Elderly Woman Protesting Abortion In Montana Gets A Firebomb Thrown At Her A homemade incendiary device was thrown at one of the participants of the 40 Days for Life pro-life prayer vigil at an abortion business in Kalispell, Montana on Thursday night. The woman walked on the public sidewalk near the abortion business when an unidentified person threw the device — akin to a “Molotov cocktail” — in her direction. The woman did not see either the firebomb nor the assailant it exploded on the sidewalk behind her, making a loud popping noise like a big firecracker as it burst into flame. Fortunately, the woman was not hurt in the incident. After she regained her composure, the victim called Karen Trierweiler, coordinator of the 40 Days prayer vigils in Kalispell at the All Family Health Care abortion center, over to her. After a lengthy delay, a Kalispell police officer arrived. However, according to officials with the Thomas More Society, a pro-life legal group that is helping the participants, instead of inspecting the bomb debris or calling evidence technicians to the scene, the officer remarked that police could never get prints or other evidence from the bomb’s remains and said he would call the city’s garbage service to dispose of all the debris. The officer then said that the 40 Days prayer vigil participants should expect this kind of reaction if they’re protesting at the abortion business. Questioning Officer Hoover’s assessment of the attack, Trierweiler called the Kalispell desk sergeant to complain, where she was unable to get further assistance.
