kimmy Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 This is freakin' epic: I haven't seen Navajo Joe, but I've got a hunch that this music heralds the arrival of Bad News for somebody. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
DogOnPorch Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 yep -k We have an ex-feral female named Emmy (aka M cat) that I rescued from the grounds of a 'no pets' strata complex. I'll PM a link of her killing my wife's camera strap. Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.
Moonlight Graham Posted March 15, 2011 Author Report Posted March 15, 2011 And lest we forget how much better a score can be than a movie... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMLPnk9-6MM The original Halloween was excellent. kimmy Posted May 20, 2011 Report Posted May 20, 2011 The soundtrack for Tron: Legacy couldn't just have some generic faux classical stuff. It had to be the soundtrack for a futuristic virtual world. So they hired the French duo "Daft Punk", known for electronic dance grooves (and talking dogs.) And they came up with one of my favorite movie soundtracks in a long time. Some of the music has a very like you'd expect from Some of the music features with .And some of the music is .Even though the movie was really dumb, I loved the music. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
kimmy Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 Ennio Morricone's "Ecstasy of Gold", from "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly", is a classic piece of movie music. In addition to the classic western, the piece has also become identified with Metallica, who for 30 years have used the song as the introduction for their concerts. This particularly dazzling performance kicked off the concert Metallica played with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JG62B_dHfDQ -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
cybercoma Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 I think Trent Reznor did a pretty good job writing the score for The Social Network. He actually won the Oscar for it, surprisingly. He also wrote the score for the film adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, but I haven't seen it. Quote

He also wrote the score for the film adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, but I haven't seen it. Trent Reznor has been one of my musical heroes for a very long time and I was overjoyed that he won an Oscar. I thought it was a great soundtrack... was an awesome blend of music and movie, and perfectly fit the main character. We meet him ghosting through the cold grey campus, surrounded by people and not making contact with any of them... and the music is this melancholy piano riff, backed up with this somewhat discordant and vaguely unsettling electronic undertone... the scene and the music tell you a lot about the main character without him saying anything.I looked for the US-version Girl With The Dragon Tattoo soundtrack on youtube, and the title track is a cover version of Immigrant Song that struck me as being almost sacrilege. I can't say I approve. -k Edited March 3, 2012 by kimmy Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)

cybercoma Posted March 3, 2012 Report Posted March 3, 2012 Can anyone hear Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber without thinking of the movie (Platoon) that launched it into fame? Quote
sharkman Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 There are a lot of good old movies I'd like to see after reading this thread. I'll add my vote to The Mission. The last song on the track is a young boy soloist, and it's quite haunting. The only version I have found of the score is a lousy transfer to CD. Perhaps I should try to find an album version. Out of Africa was another very nice score along the same lines. The pop hit song from the movie was a duet between Melissa Manchester and Al... somebody. Last song of note for Melissa I think. Another fave, although more of a soundtrack, is The Power of One, with Hans Zimmer. My wife, who doesn't go for some of my off-the-beaten-path music loves this one. Quote
