Some of the Jews who broad cast at SUN TV are doing a good job...I like them...the others seem to have a lot to learn - still can't stant that skinny Caldwell guy - you would think that the people that cast this person would realize that he will never be liked or respected by the common viewer. Oh sorry for using the word Jew - I should have said Jewish.

Is it really Sun TV? Isn't it only available on the Internet?

The problem is that if you allow broadcaster's to report fake news, there is absolutely no recourse for people whose reputations are damaged by the lies.

In the states, Fox News can slander you in opinion with false information and you would have no legal grounds to fight back.

That is bad for any nation and promotes idiocy.

I mean, it's already bad enough that Sun caters to uneducated inviduals but, to then try and manipulate them into religiously believing a political ideology, that is garbage.

The problem I find, is that anything left of hard right, even centrist news sources, get labelled as left wing propaganda by conservatives. The irony is that most editorials, whether paid off or not, supported Harper in the recent election campaign. I must admit, it was kind of hilarious to see a puff piece letter to the editor from Parksville, BC in my local Ontario newspaper. The sad part is that I'm sure local residents read the letter and didn't recognize the obvious propaganda.

Ideology does not make good policy. Good policy comes from an analysis of options, comparison of options and selection of one option that works best in the current situation. This option is often a compromise between ideologies.

Exactly how does the Sun cater to "uneducated individuals" or, better yet, why do you assume Sun readers or viewers are "uneducated?"

Is this statement driven by your political ideology?

This is false...Fox News opinion pieces are not immune from slander and defamation lawsuits.

Shwa asks a good question. Why do you think right-wingers are uneducated? Just like people who lean left--or those who appear to be more centrist in their inclinations (and frankly I'm having some difficulty even with these distinctions, which aren't so very clear)--the political Right is made up of a hugely varied group, in terms of education. From zero to a full alphabet of received degrees, to extremely insightful and/or self-educated individuals, and of course to people who appear hostile to thinking at all. I find these qualities quite divorced from political stances generally; rather, I don't think these qualities particularly inform about a person's politics.

At any rate, in my experience, formal education has very little--vanishingly little--effect on whether I agree with a person's political views or not. No effect whatsoever, actually.

As scarce as truth is, the supply has always been in excess of the demand.

I thought this was a forum post on Sun Media.

I'm getting into the role play.

You know, truth or facts to back up what you say are optional!

But, just for discussion purposes...

Sun Media caters to Conservatives. Conservatives are more likely to be high school drop outs :)

http://www.ekospolitics.com/wp-content/uploads/final_seat_projection_may_1.pdf

Note: Ekos was the only one that broke down the info into education, for some reason... the polls that lean right don't seem to have that information! (I wonder why that is?) I would have used a more right leaning polls information but, it's not like this isn't common knowledge from those who study what types of people are more likely to vote for a party.

Voting Intention (Computed Ratio of Voters) (this is done by adding the % of voters with a certain education for a certain party and then dividing the number for each category by the total.

Conservative

University - 27%

College - 37%

High School or Less - 36%

Liberal (for comparison)

University - 43%

College - 29%

High School or Less - 28%

NDP was the only party that was very close to 33% each.

It's clear that conservative supporters are more likely to be less educated. College is good for professional skills but, critical thinking an analysis is not a strong point at the college level. I mean, a diploma in welding doesn't take much critical though but, it does take hard skills.

On the flipside, Liberals are highly likely to be university educated but, university focuses on critical thinking and analysis. What university grads lack are often the practical skills from college.

I'm just pulling a fox news though guys...

Do you read the Toronto Sun, or any of the other Sun newspapers? I am already aware that newspapers have dumbed down in the need to communicate to an increasingly functionally illiterate audience, but the Sun is by far the dumbest of them all...say nothing of their ideological bent.

For example, the mostly male readers of the Sun pick it up to see what used to be the page 3 girl...which they moved to the back in the interests of political correctness...and then it's on to the sports section. The news articles are tabloid style - short and sensationalistic. So, I would agree that they are picking the lowest fruit off the tree in their search for a target audience. Maybe their mostly uninformed audience is also easier to brainwash with conservative propaganda as an added bonus! I don't see this working with what I've seen of their TV station -- that has got to be the most boring crap I've ever seen on television! They better start featuring lots of chicks in bikinis or they're gone in no time!

Well, all good things come to an end, I guess. I've just erected a 40'tower, both to hoist up a dipole antenna for my ham radio station and also to have a Digital TV antenna at the top, so that I can get my TV over-the-air, or OTA.

The OTA works great! I get over 20 channels, all totally perfect and in HD (if they broadcast HD), with all the networks. All I miss is the cable/satellite specialty channels, like Space, History and Discovery. Still, it's a fair trade considering that when I was on cable in order to get those particular specialty channels it seemed I had to buy "packages" that would have 1 channel I wanted and then a bunch of stuff that bored me silly, like The Shopping Channel or whatever.

I got a video card with an HDMI output to feed my flatscreen LCD TV from my computer and I can also pull lots of shows from the archives at the websites for most of those specialty channels. Along with a BlueRay/DVD player I figure I'd doing ok, while saving a BUNCH of money!

However, as another poster warned me a few months ago, as of Nov 1 the OTA coverage of SunTV ended. They are now on cable and satellite and while I understand that it's a better venue for them it means that I am no longer one of their viewers.

Oh well, life is change! :)

Sweet...I could do the same thing save for one digital cable channel that my wife refuses to give up....Turner Classic Movies (TCM). The cable company knows their demographics very well. I tried to teach her how to stream from the web, but it didn't work out. Congrats on the OTA, and watch out for lightning strikes!

That sounds good, but I can't give up my cable since getting the whole home PVR. It's so cool having a constantly updated custom library to look through, and I could never go back to watching commercials all the time.
