What is it supposed to accomplish? Does anyone seriously believe marijuana is a serious threat anymore? I'm surprised by the Liberal support for this. Quote

Laws regarding marijuana in this country really only work to the advantage of criminal groups. But, as long as marijuana is illegal, law enforcement officials need to have the tools to pursue the people who growing and distributing it. There are some very bad people in this business that should be put in jail. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
Evening Star Posted November 27, 2010 Author Report Posted November 27, 2010 I suppose. I just kind of think that if Parliament is going to spend time on new laws about marijuana anyway, the most sensible thing to do would be to decriminalize it. There might be a nuance I'm missing though. Quote

eyeball Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 So again, how does one square the fact that most people, especially conservatives apparently, do not want the government to legislate their personal behaviour - they want the state off people's backs in other words, and yet...they keep voting for Conservatives who can't jump up and down on them fast or hard enough. This is right-wing consistency at it's finest, it just doesn't get any better. Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.
Michael Hardner Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 Doesn't 5 plants yield a huge amount ? I mean, tens of thousands of dollars worth ? Surely there's somebody on the board from BC who can ask a neighbour or relative if this is the case. Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner

They report the pot plants they find in the bush around here yield 2 lbs of finished product per plant. They also tell us most of the profits go to people like the Hells Angels and Osama bin Laden. I'm not making this up. Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

Battletoads Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 Pot is a 7 billion dollar industry in BC, and its also the largest industry in BC by far. I really with the Government would get its head out of its ass and get with the times by legalizing pot already. Quote "You can lead a Conservative to knowledge, but you can't make him think."
eyeball Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2010/10/27/bc-california-proposition-marijuana.html Calif. pot vote threatens B.C. bud industry. I recall reading that the vote failed due to so many growers around Mendocino saying no to legalization. Economics trumps virtue so they say. I got a real laugh out of learning MADD and the associated distillery's of America jumped into the same bed to stop legalization. My brother is growing perfectly legal weed, about 20 plants IIRC and it's worth about ten thousand dollars. And yes I'm from BC. OT mandatory minimums suck they take the judging away from the judge and essentially put it in the hands of idiot legislators. Quote

Wilber Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 No.. CANADIANS have brought this on themselves. Parliament has allowed a wide range of penalties for different offences. Like I said. We stood around and spectated, and we deserve what we get. Canadians have polled in favor of pot decriminalization for 20 years. Dozens of government commmissioned studies have recommended it. What do we get? A crackdown that grows the prison industry, and gives prison time to people growing small ammounts. Common sense is being literally SODOMIZED here. Canadians are shameful to suffer this kind of thing with narry a whimper. Quote I question things because I am human. I wouldn't know. How much pot do you get from four plants, enough for a family of four and how long does it take to grow them? As far as manatory minimums in general go, the courts have no one but themselves to blame. Whenever I hear some reporter say that someone has been charged with an offense and could get something like 15 years, I yawn. If they don't get a conditional sentence, you know damn well they will only get a few months and only have to serve two thirds of them almost regardless of the crime. No the real problem is that criminalization is a massive industry that generates billions of dollars for the enforcement industry, and billions more for organized crime. This is a dream come true for these two groups. Its a boon for organized criminals who will see expanded revenues and a boon for the prison/enforcement industry. But its a nightmare for everyone else. Its one of the stupidest things we have ever done. Quote I question things because I am human. And call no one my father who's no closer than a stranger

BubberMiley Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 If there's a ridiculous law, perhaps it's best if it's enforced severely so that people can see just how stupid it is. Then they'll finally vote out, once and for all, the idiots who keep the law in place. It's a small sacrifice to see the CPC go down the toilet. Evening Star Posted November 27, 2010 Author Report Posted November 27, 2010 Yeah... because throwing someone in the general prison population for growing house plants is equivalent to charging gun owners a small registration feed... I don't even see the connection between the two issues. Why assume that people in favour of the gun registry must also be opposed to this, or vice versa? I didn't have a strong opinion on the gun registry but I still think this is stupid. Quote
