Shady Posted July 4, 2010 Report Posted July 4, 2010 Happy Independence Day! Watch John Stossel's "What's Great about America." Good Show! I watched it, and it was great! John Stossel is fantastic! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xH6rTBQOXqM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csj-wr9qqgY I highly recommend watching it. Especially those pseudo-superiority complexed Canadians in the forum. You know the kind, the ones who label all Americans as so-called arrogant. Quote

Guest American Woman Posted July 5, 2010 Report Posted July 5, 2010 Thanks, everyone, for the greetings! -- this Yank appreciates all the best wishes for America. It was a fun weekend, and now, thankfully, there's Monday for recuperating before having to return to work. Thanks for the links, too. Again, much appreciated. As for the "all Americans are arrogant" comment, it's difficult to understand that mindset, especially when the poster in question obviously is proud of Canada and yet has not been accused of being arrogant for it. Oh well, some things just have to be overlooked. Again, thank you all. The US couldn't ask for a better neighbor. Quote

lictor616 Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 I am, and shall remain, proud to be an American. Have a great Fourth!! Remember americans, that you are now living under a dictatorship and tyranny as absolute as any known on earth. If you haven't noticed that fact, it is only because the tyrants have not yet used their power over you. Obama has more power than Stalin ever had--more, because Stalin did not have the means of electronic surveillance and record-keeping that "your" Federal government is now employing, and Stalin, furthermore, could not change the long notorious inefficiency and ineptitude of all Russian governments. Obama's tyrannical powers, moreover, are entirely legal, as legality now goes in the country your parents and grandparents discarded in fits of righteousness. Obama has only to invoke emergency Executive Order 11,490 to completely annul your constitution. So this, dear Americans, is what your Christian righteousness and humanitarian sentimentality have now brought you. happy 4th of July. Quote -Magna Europa Est Patria Nostra-

bush_cheney2004 Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Remember americans, that you are now living under a dictatorship and tyranny as absolute as any known on earth. If you haven't noticed that fact, it is only because the tyrants have not yet used their power over you. Then these "tyrants" are not upholding the Tyrant's Code. Why is it so hard to find a good old fashioned tyrant? Obama has more power than Stalin ever had--more, because Stalin did not have the means of electronic surveillance and record-keeping that "your" Federal government is now employing, and Stalin, furthermore, could not change the long notorious inefficiency and ineptitude of all Russian governments. Sure...that's why Stalin had to purge so many enemies. I wonder what his Facebook page would look like? Obama's tyrannical powers, moreover, are entirely legal, as legality now goes in the country your parents and grandparents discarded in fits of righteousness. Not even close...see Adams, Lincoln, Wilson, and Roosevelt. Yawn..... Obama has only to invoke emergency Executive Order 11,490 to completely annul your constitution. LOL! You didn't even have one of your own until 1982! So this, dear Americans, is what your Christian righteousness and humanitarian sentimentality have now brought you. happy 4th of July. That's an apples-and-oranges comparison - a little like saying the government of Canada is more powerful than Ancient Rome because we have modern weapons. Of course, Stalin didn't have a facebook page back then, at least I don't think he did. What we do have today is a lot of societal paranoiac tendencies that need to be put down. Of course, Stalin didn't have a facebook page back then, at least I don't think he did. The quip about Facebook was to mock the point with millions of Americans (and other nationals) volunteering all the information they want in a very public domain, with no need for government prying. What we do have today is a lot of societal paranoiac tendencies that need to be put down. OK...but I still don't know why this horror interest is projected by Canadians for what may or may not be happening in the evil USA. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

Point taken, but nevertheless there remains this curious projection of concern and angst about local, state, or federal actions in the USA by some Canadians, sometimes while ignoring the actions of their own government. I am quite certain that reciprocal interest by some Americans would be met with skepticism if not outright disdain. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

Clearly anybody can say what they please, but here again you have just highlighted the real thrust of my "complaining"....not only do some Canadians hope to increase the import of their arguments by invoking American examples and process, but choose to do so at the expense of ignoring Canadian "content" and leaving open their positions for direct criticism. It's as if one's position has less merit if not compared and/or contrasted with American instances. If only he wasn't a hypocrite, he'd at least hold himself to the same standards, and refrain from saying anything about canada... oh well But that's the fun given this forum's reality....when in Rome...do as the Romans do!
