Machjo Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 THEY HAVE THE RIGHT. Has that sunk in yet?? So we agree. And I also agree that seeing that some have made this a contentious issue, maybe it's not so wise to build there anymore. The local Muslim, Jewish, and other communities that had given their blessings to the project had obviously miscalculated the general population. bush_cheney2004 Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 How come no one cares about the Muslims prayers going on at the Pentagon? Last time I checked it was hit on 9/11 to. Because it's irrelevant....see Chaplain Corps: http://www.usafhc.af.mil/ Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Machjo Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 Not to my way of thinking, but to yours it does. Gays simply don't have to get married in the church. They simply have to choose not to be Christians. End of problem. Eh? Bingo. Same with Muslims. No one is forcing them to be Muslim, or at least should not be anyway as per US laws. Good to see how tolerant you are. You're soooo tolerant that you tolerate intolerance. Good for you. I'm just glad equal rights issues weren't determined by the likes of you. Quote
DogOnPorch Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 (edited) And? The city didn't grant it heritage status. That's just the way it is, unless people can get them to change their mind. I know this isn't really about a building. It doesn't matter how close it is. What does that have to do with it? Where would it have to be to be far enough away? My point is that it's not like poor Mr Rauf is mosqueless. At some point he and his congregation felt the building on Warren just didn't do Islam proud enough. But a $100 million monument named after the capital of conquered Islamic Spain built on the site of a building ACTUALLY damaged during 9-11...now that sends a statement. I'm just glad equal rights issues weren't determined by the likes of you. So let me get this straight. You'd actually want to make it law that a local church would be required to marry same-sex couples? And what about the few churches that require women to cover their heads during mass? And what about requiring the Catholic Church to ordain priests? Heck, in Canada we could even force the church to provide services in French and English. For cryin' out loud, we can make it into a government institution with Charter rights applying all the way. Quote With friends like Zionists, what Jew needs enemies? Heck, in Canada we could even force the church to provide services in French and English. Go for it. If you see that as the same thing as segregation of one sex, based solely on their sex, purposely giving them crappier conditions because of their sex, then I suggest you support it. But if, by chance, you grow a brain, you might want to reconsider. Quote

Machjo Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 As long as they expect tax exemption from the government, I sure as hell do want all that. Actually, they are taxed indirectly. Each cent you give to any charity, religious or otherwise, has been taxed already. It's called income tax. And each cent they then spend will be taxed again. It's called a consumption tax. So why should religious charities be treated differently from any other charity. Every cent they get has been taxed already. Quote With friends like Zionists, what Jew needs enemies? Shady Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 He made it political. Pure and simple. Exactly. Building a mosque at ground zero also makes a political statement, not just religious. I think that area should be apolitical. Quote

What other charity do you know of that gets away with ignoring equal rights set by the government? Quote

Guest American Woman Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 If they have tax breaks other charities don't get, then I can certainly agree with it. Other charities have to abide by equal rights laws. You seriously don't get that?? They can't discriminate against women. Quote
DogOnPorch Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 Why not treat them like any other charitable organization? A group that believes in invisible omnipotent beings? They can do their good works on their own dime. True charity. Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.
