The Bank of Montreal is accusing Calgary Conservative MP Devinder Shory of having ties to what is believed to be Canada's largest mortgage fraud.

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/calgary/story/2010/05/05/mortgage-bank-shory.html

But Federal Tories shouldn't feel too bad. Here in BC, our Solicitor General, Kash Heed, left Cabinet over some pretty questionable election pamphlets, was cleared by a special prosecutor, announced his return to cabinet just in time for the special prosecutor to admit his firm had given $1000 to Heed's campaign and nearly $30,000 to the BC Liberal party, forcing, you guessed, Heed to re-resign this morning.

In defense of the Tories and their undaunted supporters, this guy is a backbencher, so it's not someone in cabinet flubbing it. But as I said a day or two ago, you can't help but have a few stinkers in any caucus.

Are'nt they all "backbenchers" except MacKay,Harper's Reform friends in cabinet, and,The Harrisite Cabal?

From the news story:

On Monday, Shory added a link on his MP website headlined, "Conservatives Stand Up for Victims of White-Collar Crime."

In announcing tough new mandatory sentences for fraud, the Tories boasted that "our Government is building on our previous action by standing up for victims of white-collar crime. We have listened to Canadians' concerns and our Government is working hard to crack down on fraud."

I'm beginning to sense a pattern here. ;)

Quite right! I've always suspected the "sweet smellers" are always in the minority!

However, the partisans who can only see evil through their right eye will try to paint this as indicative of the entire Tory caucus being crooks and therefore not worthy of our vote. The fact that this leaves us only an alternative that has been PROVEN to be corrupt will be airily dismissed as trying to say that "the other guys are bad too".

Well, the other guys ARE bad! To a much higher degree than the Tories! Some of us still haven't forgotten how much Adscam money was never traced. Certainly all we ever got for sure was ONE culprit serving some time and a PITTANCE of the money returned!

Me, I like to be an equal opportunity critic of politicians! I support the Tories at present only because in philosophy of government they stink less to my nose than the alternatives. Give me a better choice and I'll dump them in a flash! In the meantime, I refuse to base my judgement simply by who's party I like or don't like.

So I'll cheer as I watch Shory's ass fly out the door of Parliament! However, when we're watching pigs fly, don't try to convince me that only TORY pigs can fly!

Meanwhile, when the law of averages pops up a LIBERAL pig, keep your eyes on Ignatieff and see if he has the guts to prune his own party. There's a saying in business that "Anyone can make a mistake or have something bad crop up. The REAL test of character is in how they handle it! I re-read this a couple times, and all I keep seeing is "but, but, but..." It's really starting to become the defacto response.

I do agree that given all of the recent issues, he'll be kicked out asap. And well he should.

Who were those two Conservative MP's who refuse to show up at the committee investigating Jaffer/Guergis and illegal lobbying/influence peddling? Lisa Rait and Crhristian Paradis? Wasn't he the publics works minister? Smells pretty stinky to me.

We're to blame because we insist on exposing politicians to power without sufficient oversight. It's no different than sending workers into nuclear reactors without sufficient shielding.

I'd be wary of claiming things like that. It took a few years to uncover the sponsorship scandal, and one of the universal law of politics is that the longer a government is in power, the more likely it is that it will somehow be involved in ill-dealings.

Well, I'm in a worse spot. I would tend to vote Tory, but I can't support a party who so clearly loathes our constitution. When Harper is gone, then maybe I'll return.

So I'll cheer as I watch Shory's ass fly out the door of Parliament! However, when we're watching pigs fly, don't try to convince me that only TORY pigs can fly!

I think jumping too fast can be harmful too. I think Harper moved way to quickly in bumping Geurgis out of caucus. Out of cabinet, of course. A cabinet minister cannot remain at their post under those circumstances, but to outright throw her out of caucus.

Meanwhile, when the law of averages pops up a LIBERAL pig, keep your eyes on Ignatieff and see if he has the guts to prune his own party. I'm not convinced that tossing Shory out of caucus when what we have are only allegations is really all that fair, either. To my mind as slow as the Liberals might be in dealing with criminals, I don't see how the polar opposite is any better.

well if you want to talk about slow we never did find out where the kickbacks went with the airbus/Schrieber affair, other than a conservative PM who got his cash cut in a envelope and forgot to declare it in his income tax

Gee, the Reform Party sprang up because they hated the Mulroney Tories for thought, word and deed. They drove the old PC party down to 2 seats. They had pathetic remnants of PCs in the Maritimes crying in their beer, calling the Reform/Alliance Satans incarnate!

The two parties eventually merge, with like a 90%/10% split in favour of the Alliance.

Now, some people keep insisting that Mulroney's party and the present CPC are the same thing. I've been scratching my head trying to think of why. Suddenly, it hit me! Of course! They are both called Tories!

How could I have been so dense? They have been labeled with the same name! So of course the very idea of the initial split in favour of a brand new party and all the animosity against Mulroney and his Progressive Conservatives must have been all a dream!

Same letters, in the same order! Proof positive!

How can I ever get by when I rely on first hand experience and memory instead of listening to you? Gee, I just didn't realize that Mulroney is a hero and integral founding part of the present CPC. Why, how ever could I have gotten such an idea?

Thanks again!

Bill the problem with that is your assuming detainees are guilty but many of the detainees are innocent, guilty of nothing but being in the wrong place at the wrong time....electrocute, whip, water board, beat, tear out finger and toe nails and innocent detainees are liable to side with who when released?...75% of Guantanamo detainees have been released, innocent...if you or I were imprisoned for years and tortured for something we hadn't done how forgiving are you going to be...

no different than connecting Ignatieff with adscam or even more ludicrous Alberta reformers/conservatives still connecting today's liberals with Trudeau

same people in a new suit trying to reinvent/disassociate themselves by changing names...a duck is still a duck no matter how you disguise it and a conservative will always be conservative no matter the name you give them PC/Reform/CPC...

75% of Guantanamo detainees have been released, innocent...

First off, none who have been released were ever declared innocent...

and secondly, many who were released simply resumed their terrorist ways.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lists_of_former_Guantanamo_Bay_detainees_alleged_to_have_returned_to_terrorism

On top of that, you have the numbers ass end backwards.

There have been only a total of 750 detainees held in Cuba, of which only 250 have been released...and of the 250 reeleased....30% have returned to terrorism.

First off, none who have been released were ever declared innocent...

They should have been given only 380 of the 799 prisoners held in Guantanamo were even charged with anything.

In the extra-judicial limbo Guantanamo operates in, facts don't mean anything. They mean even less in the ethical fog that swirls around your use of them.
