OKAY - SAY pigs flied and cows swam? If shrimp were beef...if a fish was a lamb chop - what will serve you best - a nice meal or a spin down the free way going to work to create nothing - and YOUR real job is to burn fuel...

I will always choose BTUs over any kind of beef, pork, lamb, or fish. It's all about energy density, not taste. That's why we love sweet crude.

Nice to see you back to your old self again. You are a shrewd one - pretend to tow the party line when in fact all you really know is that there is no fish just an old rubber boot on the hook. Smart - rule number one - never hint to the powers that be on what you are really thinking - it could effect your catch.

Care to cite something from some peer reviewed literature on the extent and concentration of natural oil leaks?

Sure.

Natural Petroleum Seeps Release Equivalent Of Up To 80 Exxon Valdez Oil Spills

"When we got reviews for the paper, one reviewer said it should actually be more, because of how much has been degraded out," Farwell said. "The amount that actually seeped out is more like 11 to 110 Exxon Valdezes, just in this area."

Washburn thinks that this research will resonate among scientists who have studied oil. "I think it's giving us a lot of insight into the fate of oil and hydrocarbons in the ocean," the UCSB oceanographer said. "There may also be some applications for oil spills."

Scientists Find That Tons Of Oil Seep Into The Gulf Of Mexico Each Year

Twice an Exxon Valdez spill worth of oil seeps into the Gulf of Mexico every year, according to a new study that will be presented January 27 at the Ocean Sciences Meeting in San Antonio, Texas.

All natural.

What it boils down to is the rate of which the oil is being spilled. If it is seeping, then the environment can handle it. Overwhelm it like the Exxon or the Deepwater Horizon and you have an environmental disaster.

I guess it is safe to assume that oil has always been leaking in the oceans around the world, it's also safe to assume that nature has a counter for this. But nature's defenses (if you will) are not enough in either the Exxon spill or the DeepWater Horizon rig.

Nature should be able to handle this spill, it will just take a lot longer. But in the mean time, things are going to be real shitty for the Gulf and people who live around there.

The class of person that runs oil companies is usually a tiny segment of society that is overly privledged where the top jobs are passed down to relatives and close assoicates..what takes place is that the brightest are not at the helm..very similar to high politics. I do not want to knock the oil companies BUT they had better bring some knew blood into the game- perhaps someone that is intelligent- wise and appreciates nature..none of the guys I saw interviewed looked or sounded very bright- just privledged...they should ask for help but are to proud...and that pride is what will bring down their empire.

Why are Republicans refusing to lift the Liability cap from 75 million so as to make sure the US taxpayer isn't suck with the bill? I mean honestly politics aside this shouldn't be a partisan issue.

I hear crickets chirping!

I'm not a big fan of Huffpo, especially with all the pseudoscience crap they run, but they have a good front page on the Senate strategy to block banking reform also: HUMAN SHIELDS FOR WALL STREET

I'm assuming that when push comes to shove, they'll do everything in their power to block lifting the liability cap also!

What's lost on a lot of these fools who adopt the what me worry attitude, is that nature often handles these problems with mass extinction. When too much oil naturally seeps into the ocean, it will create a dead zone just as likely as a man-made dumping of oil. The scary thing right now is that it is going to take years to figure out the effects of this oil, and the chemicals used to disperse the oil. The dispersents are untested on this scale, and no one knows the extent of the impact on the ecology, except that it will happen!

This mess will be monumental in respect to how governments and private enterprise function when it comes to responsible harvesting of energy - There is no way to spin this and get around the fact that it is possible that the whole eastern sea board of North America may be damaged to the point where it will be said that the empire does not have a coast that they can be proud of..This may cause the greatest loss of American and British prestege ever!

The master of operations for BP comes across like a nice guy..and I am sure that he is - and he is NOT wearing his jacket or tie- attempting to come across as the peoples man..He is not - his friends are actually abandoning their posts and flying off to have meetings and personal celebrations abroad..just goes to show you that the disconnect is severe with this class of person - that they really do not give a shit because they are to dumb to realize that this is serious...THE idiot Mr. Bob Dudley goes on about how this might effect "tourism' - I guess in his world it is all about recreation and not creation - personally I hate the environmental movement - they think that protecting nature is picking up a rapper off the city pavement - they are out of touch with the natural world..

It is not that they are bad people - they simply can not relate to reality in it's fullest form..much like an investment banker born with money who can not fathom the idea that a person needs a bus ticket to go to his menial job- They assume that everybody is like them - and everybody is born with money..the reality is - this tragic event will bring about such loathing and distrust of the oil industry and their supporting governmental croonies that people might just stop buy their product - they will use only what is neccesary to surive....

NOW the heavey black crude is lapping at the salt water wet lands - and settling to the bottom - and working it's way to Maine on the surface - a 75 million dollar cap is bizarre as far as attempting to restore what might become the unrestorable - as a lay person - 50 billion bucks will not restore what may take place in the next month. IF you have the ambition to open the gates of hell - then you had better have the faith and talent and abilty to close them - they have none of these things it appears.

Posted

ALSO- as far as BRITISH pertroleum is concerned - the chemical dispersants used are illegal in and around Britian - but BP finds it fit to use them on this side of the pond...and the conflict of interest that is rearing it's head as far as the use of these chemicals is now evident in the fact that BP has close ties to the suppliers - and what is crimminal is that there are superiour and more safe chemicals produced by other companies not as connected to PB..they should be using the best - BUT it goes to show you how far corporate culture has fallen..that they attempt to turn a profit in a tragic situtation instead of bearing down on it to the best of their human abilities...Kind of reminds me of of traitors that sold arms to the Germans during WW2...and profited while their own country men were killed by bullets they sold.

Posted

IF governments were not corrupt...60 years ago they would have arrested and jailed Prescott Bush and we would not of had to tolerate the jerk who was his grandson..Think of it - you sell arms to the enemy - build up a fortune and then install not one but two sons as president - is AMERICA STUPID?

The greatest problem with international corporatism is that they are not loyal to their place of origin...whether it be Britian or America - these are arrogant and disconnected UNGRATEFUL privateers. One of the highest members of BP has flown away to attend a birthday party..after promising to stay at his post and over see this mess...apparently duty to humanity and nation is of little concern for them...I guess after the party there will be drinks in the library and their main concern will not be about correcting and healing the problem but how to avoid heavey duty litigation...once they start to cover up the problems begin..the fact that BP is practicing damage control instead of concentrating on damage fixing..is worrisome.

If it was not for the energy consumers in AMERICA and else where - BP would not be the power house it is today - You have to remember your origins..and be loyal to those that put you on top - most are not! Look at the sense of entitlement to the public purse that they have - Remember the rusted out pipe line that BP had shut down in the north...they expected governments - the public to come up with the money for repair-- when that did not happen they shut down the pipe line causing a type of extortive decline in the North American economy- prices went up - still I doubt that they did the repairs.

This entitlement and desire to enslave people is not a passable mode of operation - BP will reach it's own unpleasant end unless they stop using their rule of thumb that consists of never putting anything back into the bowl they feed from. Funny - I know of one person that deals in billions of dollars and he is the cheapest most shallow delluded man on earth - perhaps he is typical of the people that run British Petroleum. THIS attempted liablity cap of 75 million is like 75 dollars to these guys - Frugal is one thing - but blind cheapness is a destroyer of buisness - you have to spend it to make it - not hord it.

I think the issue is about lifting the cap in a non-arbitrary way.

What's wrong with an arbitrary lifting of the cap? Why is it that the rich and powerful always have access to the public purse and only they benefit from the hard work of the masses? If one party wants to protect the oil company it is because the oil lobby has judged acurrately on who to pay off and who is not worth the bribe. I find it odd that pension funds are the first thing to disappear when crooks legit and other wise have a problem..pensions are savings--I see investment bankers leverage huge deals using Canada pensions - talk about well connected and treating nations like private estates..personally I am getting tired of living in an Egyptian style slave state.

Sometimes it is unpleasant to have the gift of vision - but this puncture in the earth is as bad and perhaps worse than I believed. For this corporation and all connecting companies to attempt to fix this problem is impossible - monitary and punitive damages will not be met..this is when we see what is in power - private corporations or public governments.

IF believes it is to big to fail- they might have another thing coming - they will have to depend on a corrupt and justice lacking judical system to get out of this one - IF they paid damages in full - it would bankrupt the company..but that is not going to happen - this will be a test - is the world and it's resourses privately owned by a few or are my ideas on socialism correct that the Obamaish kind of socialism is much like old Germany's national socialism - where an elite rule..and the rest slowly become equal and equally poor ..sad thing is - I was called an elite the other day by a socialist social worker who wants me to do what I am told..I guess to keep a roof over my head I may as well play the system - because the system plays us - all is fair in love and war.

GET THE POP CORN AND BEER AND PREPARE TO BE ENTERTAINED - THIS IS A SHOW DOWN BETWEEN ONE OF THE OLDEST CORPORATIONS - NEXT TO ISLAM....Bush and Cheney buttered up to the British seeking class - Obama will attempt to defy them...let the games begin!

It's better that the Queen and Prince Charley declare insolventcy instead of letting thousands of barrels of oil destroy the gulf coast. Let the arrogant secretive mother f**kers drag out all of their money and send a thousand ships to clean up the oil spill with damned tea spoons if neccesary. Instead of doing what they are supposed to do they want to burn the stuff..as if oil and water burn easily and as if I want to breath the crap that keeps them rich.

If I had a choice between Queen and the decendants of the revolution...I would choose the Queen...wonder what all of the American eite are going to do once the people notice that they are not interested in confronting the BP problem..in a sincere manner...hate to say it - but - AMERICA IS STILL A COLONIALIST STATE....Let the tea party people go to the harbour and have an oil party.

Looks like BP is bragging about dispensing almost 30 million in cheques, for lost wages. Wonderful! AND typical of them to hand out money with that attitude that the people will spend and consume and be oh so happy..this mentality has always been worrisome to me, that these tycoons who gather up endless wealth will in the end own the world that will be destroyed and there will really be no place to spend or enjoy the wealth..that's the long term projection. In the short term it sure looks like BP and the American congress are dawning their best poker faces and will attempt to out lie each other.

Money is not the issue here - and money for the most part is the cure all but not in this case..the cure would be for BP to truely feel responsible and do the right thing no matter what the cost - much like a good politican is willing to forfeit their career in order to do the right thing. This finally looks like the down fall of big oils' trickle down effect..the effect that consists of people worshipping the rich as if they could do no wrong or harm. IF you have not notice the BP boys are really not that clever and getting all lawyered up just makes things worse - the supper privledged have committed the gravest of errors, that being underestimating the intelligence and wisdom of the common person...They may as well pay up best they can because they are not capable of any other form of restitution other than finacial.

These habitulist wealth grubbers are very very ignorant of how life, love and nature operate....most of all they are caught and do not know how to defend themselves - because their position is one that is un-defenceable...all the money in the world can not replace the part of the human character that is called responsiveness - they fail to respond to stimuli because they are socially numb and have never had to be responsible to anyone but themselves.

Why is this in American politics? I had no idea an underwater explosion was political.

Might not have been political in the early stages but it sure is now..eventually American congress will start to turn on each other in order to remove their competators..just wait..they are just warming up for the "kill shot".

Really? I expected you to blame it on Obama.

Just goes to show you who is in power - the one with the political theatrics or the person with the big huge bag of gold..seems Obama does cower under humungus buisness. I wonder why the man who is supposed to be the holder of the most powerful office acts as if he is a junior officer..could it be that he is a common employee and he does what he is told? You would imagine that he would smash BP up side the head and take command of the company...I guess he would have to deal with the royal major share holders...and as we know there really was no real American revolution..speaking of revolution - what's this stuff with Sarah Fergison? Tack - just about as tacky as that stick crude..rude oil.

Drill baby Drill. HA!

Why is BP not drilling a relief well as we speak? Has someone crunch the numbers and figured out it would be cheaper to destroy the gulf coast?

Yah I think so and the government doesn't want to do it with out the 75 million cap lifted because it will be looked as a bail out. What a bunch of BS.

They ARE drilling a relief well. But it takes time to dig that far, that deep. Unfortunately you can't just snap your fingers and have it done.
