EXCLUSIVE: Obama Got Pre-Christmas Intelligence Briefing About Terror Threats to "Homeland"

President Barack Obama received a high-level briefing only three days before Christmas about possible holiday-period terrorist threats against the US, Newsweek has learned. The briefing was centered on a written report, produced by US intelligence agencies, entitled "Key Homeland Threats", a senior US official said.

Newsweek

Looks like Obama was warned about the attack before Christmas, and chose to do nothing.

Good Lord. Where, other than in your head, is there any indication whatsoever that Obama "chose to do nothing" about the warning?

I'm just trying to apply the same standards to President Obama that were applied to the evil President Bush. Btw, here's Obama the day after the Christmas day bombing attempt.

Why don't you hold Bush up to the same criticisms as you do Obama? Because you deal in ideology and partisanship, not reality.

Interesting about the briefing. We'll see what happens of this. I wonder if he did know anything. Newsweek says the briefing didn't include anything about Yemen specifically, but who knows. From the article:

The administration official, who asked for anonymity when discussing sensitive information, says that nowhere in this document was there any mention of Yemen, whose affiliate of Al Qaeda is now believed to have been behind the Christmas Day attempt by Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab to bring down a transatlantic airliner with a bomb hidden in his underpants. However, the official declined to disclose any other information about the substance of the briefing, including what kind of specific warnings, if any, the president was given about possible holiday attacks and whether Yemen came up during oral discussions.

While I would agree all politicians are self-interested, I don't think you should assume they are all evil. A rather cynical attitude, I must say.

Wait? Obama was briefed and there was going to be an attack, from Yemen, it be in the form of an Underwear bomb? He then went on to cut counter terrorism founding in half and focus the American defense funds on star wars? Wait a minute none of that happened so it is nothing like Bush at all.

Look ! They can not even keep a couple of gate crashing social climbing idiots out of the White House - Obama did not choose to do nothing - they are simply stupid people - look at the Pentagon - the nerve centre of all american military might - They could not even protect that - It's not a conspiracy...that these things are allowed to happen - It's the simple fact that the simpltons have rose to the top of the food chain. Obama being their representative and spokesman - for Gods sake the stupid terrorist kids dad calls them directly to tell them his son is nuts and they are to busy looking in the mirror doing their make up to heed the warning....stupid - just plain stupid - we imagine that these powerful people are smart - they are not smart - just rich and privledged.

Hey Shady here is some good reading for you. Just an excerpt, it has citations and everything.

"Just a month before the 9/11 attacks, while on a month long vacation, Bush was personally handed a presidential daily briefing entitled:

Bin Laden determined to strike in US.

With characteristic intelligence and class, Bush responded with the words:

All right. You've covered your ass, now.

And went fishing."

IN that case, you're going to have to try much harder, because you've failing miserably. B)

Good point, and since Bush apparently set the bar so low, why is Obama unable to best Bush's record? At least he's started using the term 'war' in the same sentence as 'terror'.

The socialists here on MLW will twist and turn any negative said about The Obama into a positive and will make anyone else look like they're bad. Anyone who doesn't fit into their mindset is evil and a facist. I still find it hilarious that they hold up CHina as a shining example of government we should all follow. They put drug dealers to death in China. The death penalty in China is carried out by a bullet to the back of the head. Their pot smoking and dealing ways would surely mean death to many of their poncho wearing, placard waving friends.

The Obama knew about the attacks and did nothing, plain and simple. Michael I don't recall you speaking out about how unfairly Bush was treated while he was in office, so spare me the take the high road crap. No ones buying it.

We all know the story, The Obama can do no wrong. Wait until the next presidential election, I can already hear it. Anyone who votes against The Obama is a racist, will be the next cry.

Answer me this. Obama made a lot of promises during his campaign, what has he actually accomplished so far besides making some flowery speeches?

I'll help you guys out, nothing. He hasn't done any of things he promised in his campaign.

Ok, so you don't recall it. Are you saying I'm lying ? Why would I defend Bush now, then ? So that I could say that we shouldn't criticize Obama ? Does that sound like me.

In fact, I posted during Bush's administrations that attacks against Bush vis-a-vis national security preparedness are misplaced. We have no way of knowing what the strategies were then, what Bush's decisions were, and whether they would have made a difference as it is with any commander-in-chief. We won't know such things for decades.

We can, in some cases, criticize specific policies on various bases but overall big picture assessment is not available to the common person, and hence there's no way to provide evidence for your arguments.

We all know the story, The Obama can do no wrong. Wait until the next presidential election, I can already hear it. Anyone who votes against The Obama is a racist, will be the next cry.

Whoooooooa is me, I'm Mr. Canada ! Whaaaaah... a liberal is in the white house.... boo hooo....

I've heard a lot of far-left types especially saying this about Obama.

Bin Laden determined to strike in US.

Yeah, kind of like the intell briefing Obama receieved.

Key Homeland Threats

The briefing was centered on a written report, produced by U.S. intelligence agencies, titled "Key Homeland Threats," a senior U.S. official says.

So, just so everbody can keep score at home. President Obama gets a briefing titled "Key Homeland Threats" on December 22nd, indicating terrorist threats to the United States over Christmas, and does nothing. He doesn't add air marshalls to American bound flights, he doesn't increase airport security, he does nothing. Absolutely nothing, except this....

LOL. Is it the president's job to add marshalls to US flights ? Does he personally pick which flights ? How about where they sit ?

This is an example of useless nit-picking on what the commander-in-chief does for national security. It's all secret, so come back in 50 years when the FOI request has been fulfilled.

And they said who was going to do it? Where they would do it from and when they were going to do it? No ohhhhhh so nothing like Bush who said "OK you covered your ass now" when he was giving the Briefing on Osama eh?

Likewise, we can't say with hindsight that Bush's comment meant anything. He may have been admonishing the messenger for not providing enough information, who knows ?

Again, it's silly to criticize the commander-in-chief for decisions that are all made in secret, as you don't have open and clear evidence.

Really? If somebody told you Al Qaeda was trying to conduct a terrorist attack over the Christmas holidays, wouldn't airplanes be an obvious first or second thought? Wouldn't one possibly increase security a little, even just for Christmas Eve to Boxing Day? Instead, what does Captain Obvious(Maureen Dowd's name for Obama, not mine) do? Does nothing, and goes golfing.

I understand what you're saying. But I'm just trying to hold President Obama to the same standard our leftwing forumer's held President Bush too. I'm a big fan of consistency.

Ok, so you're saying you also criticized Bush for the security failures that happened under his watch then. Gotcha.

Here's my consistency: I don't blame Bush or Obama or Clinton for individual failures of security that happened while they were president.

I don;t know I think when someone tells you that Terrorists are going attack America the first thing you say shouldn't be "Ok you covered your ass now" although that is your guy Shady not mine. You might forget this but there was a poll out to Obama response last week 62% said Obama's response was right. So I guess 38% of America agrees with your Shady.

Which of The Obama's campaign promises has he fulfilled?

He's been in office for almost two years. What has he accomplished to show for it?
