Weren't we discussing the deficit? Is there any amount of deficit that would give you pause? And a lot of the deficit won't be one time infrastructure, it will be 'social infrastructure' which is Liberalspeak for social programs that have no end. Of course, the reality is that Morneau can plck any number he wants out of his colon, and many people here and elsewhere will cheer once he has rinsed it off and applied a little sanitiser.. If the actual deficit rolls in a year later at double, triple, whatever..... the bafflegab and misdirection is already written. Oh, and Harper will be blamed.

Justin is not nearly as quick on the fly as Pierre. The biggest stylistic difference is that Justin gives the appearance of anxiety about people liking him. Pierre did not care about that much, though he became expert in exploiting Trudeaumania. Both are flamboyant personally. Their political styles are very similar, though Junior has not had much time on the job. Very fond of any social program, clueless on the economy that pays for it all.

Federal Budget 2016: Increase the Gasoline Excise Tax!
overthere replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I know at least one senior with a gross income from all sources of about $23,500 who pays a net income tax of $370. I have done her return for several years. At $20K a few years ago she paid about $100 net income tax. -
The bigger problem for the Crown is that there is no corroborating evidence to the testimony given, or if there is it did not surface in court. The statement from a friend of the 3rd complainant might not matter at all, given the information that came out about communication between the complainants. Usually there are doctors, nurses, cops who testify to what they saw in regard to injuries.

Well no. Just a couple of recent items plucked at random also add to the deficit, from campaign promises. The Syrian refugee costs are not going to be $100 million as carefully costed by Trudeau. $1.2 billion is the latest guess. The inquiry into aboriginal women will be several hundred million more as the scope of that is blossoming. And the cost of increased funding to Aboriginal affairs will be billions for sure. Trudeau has promised to fund and implement every recommendation of Harpers Truth and reconciliation Committtee. Bellegarde says he expects a few billion more per annum at minimum. Education extras will be $2 bililon at least. And who can guess at how much Bombardier gets? and so on.

No, the FBI want to bypass the feature that wipes data from the phone when 10 wrong attempts are made to guess the password. They have not asked for a key to the encryption of data.

Taylor Swift takes a swipe at Kanye

Lawrence had a lesser role in American Hustle than Adams, who was paid much less at $1.25 million(plus points in the profits). On the other hand, Adams has nowhere near the draw that Lawrence has- she is the best paid actress in Hollywood now. Maybe Lawrence needs a new agent, or at least somebody else to negotiate on her behalf. For this movie, she worked significantly fewer days than the others, and came later to join the cast. She won't be repeating that mistake, she is one of the best of her generation and must be buried in offers/scripts. For those who have not seen it, check her out in Winters Bone for a movie treat. -
Interesting thought: chronic liars and perjurers can still be rape victims.
-
Sigh. Once again: the defendant in Canada is not required to prove their innocence, They cannot do it in any case, as innocent is not a verdict in Canada.

What is the likelihood that their publicists get together in advance and arrange all this? I think very very high. It is similar to professional wrestling, sorry I meant rasslin. Everybody has an assigned role. -
Here is why: because it is not necessary for any person in any crime to prove that they are not guilty. I see. You'd prefer that all accused persons be obliged to somehow hire high quality legal counsel to fight the nearly limitless resources of the police and Crown. To prove their innocence. Would that apply to everybody, or just people like Ghomeshi that you do not like? "You have the right to remain silent"
-
Gross and inaccurate generalization to presume that "People blame the victims".. "All men are rapists " too? It is also grossly wrong to state that 'victims are left proving a negative'. The victims do not have to prove anything. They have to provide evidence. A dispassionate court of law decides if that and other evidence is sufficient to convict a person. What is your alternative to that? Hearsay? Automatic presumption of guilt?

do you really want me to name Rob Ford?

I think having a judge only helps to focus on the law and the adminstration of the law as it pertains to one person on trial. There is no need to balance any fields. There is a need to present credible evidence from credible witnesses in support of the charge under consideration. If that does not happen, there is reasonable doubt. The criminal justice system is not on trial.
-
Wrong. Ghomeshis lawyer did not have to follow your script. There was no evidence of an assault, other than the womans account. No corroboration, no physical evidence, no hospital logs, no police logs.... nothing. And it is entirely reasonable in any trial for a defence lawyer to question the credibility of witnesses. I don;t question the lack of justice in 'these cases'. A reasonable person would examine the merits or demerits of an individual offence. That is certainly what is expected of a Canadian court and expected of this judge. It may astonish you to learn that all men are not on trial here. Just one man. It is the Crowns duty to prove his guilt beyond a reasoanble doubt. Did they do that? In this case.

It affects mostly first time buyers in the hottest markets, meaning the most likely markets to crash and burn. It is not that hard for two people toqualify for a mortage in the $500k to $1M range, which is hardly a lot in Vancouver, it is certainly first time buyer territory. It requires them to come up with a few thousand more in equity to buy at all, which means it will squeeze some people out entirely, they remain in rentals. Many people have high incomes and good credit, but never manage to save anything. And real estate is a series of dominos, and the first one to fall is the first time buyer..... When they don't buy, that means that a house does not sell, which means those people don't move up..... and so on. Stopping first time buyers should slow it down a bit. It does not affect first time buyers in other markets at all really. MUch more meaningful nationally was the switch in recent years of maximum amortizations from 40 to 35 to 30 to the current 25 years.

Yep. And Bourque was traded in a moment of generosity by the Bruins, out of respect for the long and great career from Bourgue. They weren't going to win, and gave him a chance that worked out with Colorado. The three greatest years Hull had were spent- not coincidentally- on the wing next to one of the alltime great passers in hockey history. Adam Oates. When Oates left the Blues, Hull never came close to scoring as much in the next several years, and was not a great player for about the last 8 years oif his career.. TRades of guys like Stamkos are rare indeed. Lindros?
-
Not many franchise players get to free agency, and Stamkos may not get there himself. If I accept the notion that only contenders cannot afford him, that leaves about 24 teams that might. And dumping slaries to afford whatever is hardly new, we have just watched Toronto do it the last couple seasons. Contending teams can just as readily dump a couple $5M players, get Stamkos and still contend. Rangers, Pittsburgh, LA come to mind. Nashville can afford to lose another good defenceman. Anaheim also has a bunch of Grade A young defence prospects and needs offence. I don't mean in a trade for Stamkos, I mean a 3rd party trade to free cap room for Stamkos.

Yes, but only between $500K and $1 million purchase price. If the purchase price is over $1Million, CMHC does not get involved so 20% minimum down is required. That, BTW, was intriduced by Harper as another attempt to rein in the hottest markets. The govt also graduates fat CMHC fees: the higher the loan to value ration, the higher the premium for the CMHC guarantee. It is based on the reasonable premise that the higher the loan, the less equity there is, and a higher risk of default. Every CDN Prime Minister has used CMHC to manipulate the housing market and industry. Speed it up, slow it down. Things like graduated CMHC fees, amount of down payment required, which rate is the qualifying rate and lentgh of amortzation are all manipulated by Ottawa, plus more. This particular measure was aimed at TO and Vancouver mostly.

Raise it by $1 per liter at least. Bombardier and Coderre will need at least that much.
