  1. Is Chuck Guite going to appear, just for old times sake?
  2. Bellegrande has already stated they expect billions now. Right now, and no waffling BS. And no way that Junior will be permitted not to toss some big coin at his promise to implement at all the recommendations from Harpers Truth and Reconcililation report. Education alone is $2 billion. Thats an extra $2 billion ongoing at very minimum, not a one timer. And there will have to be something very juicy for Coderre/Montreal/Bombardier/ad agencies too, though like I said there will have to be a huge difference between whatever lie they tell about the forecast deficit in the budget and the real numbers in 2016. Trudeau has dug himself a big hole with his promises, and he is still shoveling today. Glad to see he has some help here.
  3. Uber is lying and knows they are lying. A drivers personal policy simply is not valid. You cannot carry passengers for money on a personal policy. Period. Aviva was supposed to be coming out with an insurance product in Ontario and Alberta for Uber drivers very soon, has it happened?. But Ubers 'group policy' is toilet paper. This issue is at the heart of Ubers competitivenes and business model. If their part timers have to pay a few grand extra for insurance to drive, they cannot and won't.
  4. Impossible. Aboriginal Affairs will alone will need $3 billion extra now, right now, or he will be physically lynched.
  5. The Liberal number in the budget will be plucked kicking and screaming from the colons of Trudeaus communications team with input from Gerry Butts.(what a great and apt name) The actual deficit will be at least $40B. The PMO will be warming us up for that number the day after the so called budget is released. Later, the budget will balance itself.
  6. Amy is a very good and very sad movie. I knew little of her music beforehand, and confess I can take it or leave it. But it is still a tragic human tale and deserves consideration. Another documentary nominee The Look of Silence is on TV tonight, on CBC The Passionate Eye..
  7. I give credit to Cameron, who is following through on his promises. He is a supporter of EU membership, and it is a considerable polticial risk for him to go through with a referendum. Of course, it is also a risk to not have one. I predict they will stay in the EU, but will act independently more and more. The Brits have never accepted the EU monetary policy much, they are very unlikely to live with a much more integrated fiscal policy since a certain loss of soveirngty is inescapable then. They will stay and act in their best interest overall, even if contrary to EU dictates. The Eu cannot afford to have the UK abandon ship.
  8. Yes, my apologies for the oversight http://news.nationalpost.com/full-comment/andrew-coyne-why-the-liberals-say-one-thing-and-do-another-blame-it-on-cognitive-dissonance Speaking of cognitive dissonance, so many many posts in this thread refer to Harper. Folks, he is not the Prime Minster any more. He has no influence on the actions of the current PM, who is entirely free to act on his own agenda and does.
  9. The effects of the energy 'policy' of the current federal govt haven't been felt yet in the ROC. They will soon, as the gusher of cash diminishes it will be felt by everybody. Albertas knows there is little possibility of actual cooperation or reasonableness from Trudeau, Quebec or several other provinces. It is not about thanking anybody, it is a matter of preservation of an important part of our economy. With the active discouragement of Trudeau at least twice in recent months, sorry three times, companies like Enbridge have already noted they are looking elsewhere to invest, and there is no lack of opportunity to make serious money in many parts of the world. Their announcement last week mentioned US and Europe specifically. They aren't the only ones who are starting to see that the hostility of Candas poltical class to the energy ndustry is making investment here pointless and risky., Tansalta announced it won't be investing in any major electrical production in AB until the current AB regime decides what will be done about abandoned capital. That means electricity costs will follow Ontarios model of simply being too costly for industry to bother with. Too risky.... And that spreads like wildfire, and will, it is already well underway. Nationally, none of the Big Three auto makers are bothering to spend much in Canada, too expensive and now also too risky. And if they continue to pack up, they won't be back soon. Our market is not big enough to roll the dice on, not for big mponey.. And we are doing it to ourselves. I'll explain what Alberta wants from the rest of Canada, and it isn't money, an apology, or any kind of respect. They want Canada, all of it, to recognize the situation and allow the industry, not the public purse, build infrastructure to get energy products to market worldwide. Pipelines, ports, LNG plants. Not 20 years from now. But now. Not for Alberta, for the country. It matters to all of us. The US did it, Australia did it, many countries have labour, business, government, everybody work together in their own interests. Not us.
  10. Point of order: it is harder to be lazy in Alberta than just about anywhere in Canada. Since the mid 90s uou basically cannot get welfare at all if you are single and employable. You can get welfare and other [programs if you have dependents or are not employable because you are disabled in some way. Unl;ike BC and other provinces, smoking too much weed for example is not considered a disability.
  11. Are you being intentionally funny? Of course Alberta collects royalties? How do you think they built all those roads, schools and hospitals to accommodate the hundreds of thousands of Canadian economic refugees that have left the unemployment of the ROC to try and earn a living? The NDP just completed a thorough royalty review and confirmed that the existing royalty regime is on par with that of other countries, including Norway. But they do not have any choice or control on what happens to taxes, including direct federal royalties and taxes on resources and resource companies. I once hoped you could do better than that, but not any more. How about: and you lost the lottery. But wait, no you didn't after all!
  12. Around here, the cops mostly don't give a s**t about people smoking weed, and haven't for a long time. If the state gets involved in grpowing, selling, taxing and enforcing a state monopoly on the drug- they will be climbing back on heavily. They will have to.
  13. The Liberasls also whipped the vote on same sex marriage, as did the NDP. The Liberals also whipped MPs on an earlier vote when they had a majority, this time on the other side of the issue. Party discipline matters to Trudeau, dissent is not allowed. It extends past this issue of course, it is pretty funny to see all the senior military people on TV, grim faced, having to pretend they understand their new mission in Iraq/Syria.
  14. What happens when reality intrudes on promises promises promises to everybody for everything- and people buy into it no matter what is actually happening? Including the person who makes the promise? Make the KoolAid, then drink the KoolAid. Adjust recipe and consumption to your own taste....as needed by circumstances. The truly scary stuff is yet to come, but thanks Andrew for starting a list. We'll be checking it twice in the months and years to come. It's not likely many of us will have pesky jobs that occupy our time.
  15. It was harder than expected...and shockingly not found in the Toronto Star, Globe and Mail, or Le Devoir. http://edmontonjournal.com/opinion/columnists/gary-lamphier-how-much-money-has-flowed-out-of-alberta-to-ottawa-a-lot
  16. This site would last 34 seconds in China before we all were given a few years as guests of the central committee to reconsider our thoughts.
  17. I really doubt the feds will get involved in selling it, they will be happy with taxing it and leaving all the headaches to the provinces. Nanny won't be able to resist taxing at any and every level of govt, and there lies the problem: every expense and tax they load onto the approved product makes it less comeptetive with the private stock.
  18. If they brought it to market in ON, they'd have an automatic tax of what is it- 14% HST? That does not exist today. And there is no way on earth that the feds and province would not tack on sin taxes. And your comment on retailers bidding adds to my argument. Weed sellers now don't have to pay anything to get their product to market, other than production and distribution costs. It isn't that the govt would 'allow' no tax to be paid, it is the collecting that is problematic. Not just the actual collection, but the optics of a legal product now being pursued in the streets and courts to levy fines? What then was the point of legalization, if the govt must invest money again on enforcement?
  19. Booze and weed are not really comparable though. Lots of people make their own beer and wine, but in reality it is mostly crap. The best I have ever had might be at the level of 'drinkable' It is hard to make quality bevvies at home. It is far easier to grow world class weed though, if you have access to the right seeds. This is a game where the govt really has its work cut out for them, and I don't see any way they can actually decriminalize it, get into the business at any level, and make any significant money. Or any money.
  20. Nah. Never been suspended before, so he will likely get 3 to 5 games for that cheapo elbow. Komarov is the player I like best on the Leafs, though not this kind of stuff.
  21. No, keep dodging.
  22. schools, day cares, hospitals, housing and most jails are not federal responsibilites. And why do you hate our children? Why would we burden them with that?
  23. What portion of the last 100 days do you think he has been in his office? Roughly.
  24. and gets a GST rebate four times a year.
