Well if other parts of the country were more battleground it may have. The point is the concentration of votes in a particular area aren't given preference over support over a more representative part of the state/country.
Seems kind of a moot point debating it, the EC isn't going anywhere anytime soon. AND with the recent antics of our Federal government, I suspect FPTP isn't going anywhere anytime soon either.
