How is this not defined by the liberal government, i mean every purchase must go through a stringent vetting process, including being vetted by the liberal government, "Most" of all our government purchases have been decided by the government inn charge , Military gives procurement officials a list of specs...the government decides what brand they buy, then the military tests it sends the results back to government and poof They decide good or bad, it is the government that decides everything....I mean look at the LSVW that veh was tested and failed dozens of times before government just told them to buy it, it was a piece of crap... And if we are criticizing the defense file lets not forget the conservatives, they got their share of screw up,s and success stories...like the C-17....total failures not buying/ Renting Chinooks fast enough lots of blame to go around....every Canadian owns a bit of that shit sandwich as well.

TAPV is a disaster, and it is employed in roles it was not designed for....Its huge to start with, for a recce vehs it's massive ...no surveillance mast... top heavy, there is a u tube out of one tumbling down a highway in quebec....after being cut off by some civy...it has a limited crew....Coyote is being replaced by a LAV 6.0 platform still in the works... Anyone that has carried the tow, .50 cal, or c-16 will tell you any lift you give them is going to be appreciated...In the winter they get help by Skidoo or BV-206....bringing us back to a heated platform that can be used in all environments and would thrive in Latvia an near artic nation...not to mention here in Canada....Shit the british even mounted TOW, 40MM , and 50 cals on them...even have 120 mm mortars, air defence systems, EW systems there is a huge list of applications...

Your misunderstanding what the different roles are especially mech and Lt Infantry roles...Mech Infantry does fight from trenches, buildings, forrests, and other complex terrain, their IFV is just another fighting tool......Both are Infantry soldiers one rides in an IFV, the other by Aircraft, Helo, truck, or some other form of transport, both share most of the same tactics...Only major difference is mode of transport how they arrive on the battlefield... Mechanized forces use prepositioned equipment, such as the 2 companies worth of LAV 6.0 sitting in storage...mech Infantry get on a plane , just like Lt infantry land jump into the prepositioned equipment and go... It may not be unheard off, but if you go back in Canadian military history it is rare...as both have very different roles to play....one is highly mobile, the other is not, one can is designed to fight near peer forces such as other mechanized or armor forces, the other is not..LT forces are used to attack lt targets such as airfields, helo domes, bridges, targets in the enemies' rear.... These problems with the MRZR could be over come with a few good maintainers and a small amount of funding... the rear deck could be extended, suspension reinforced or rear hydraulic stabilizer arms installs like those on wheel mounted arty...i mean lets be real if your engaging on the move your not going to be hitting many targets accurately... Besides a 50 cal has a huge beaten zone...meaning all rounds are not hitting in the same area...the further the target the larger the beaten zone... I understand the LT infantry role, done it many of times....It is not a concern it will used LIKE a LAV or Bradly , but it will be used in the same environment as BMP's, BTR's and Main battle tanks, That's what the existing LAV force will be engaging....... Unless your telling me they are not going to operate with the mechanized forces but rather have their own mission....and if that is the case not much good as a fly over force for reinforcements are they.... No weapons' mounted as of yet....besides one can mount a GMPG or LMG on bipods or slings/ straps hanging off the roll bars like the old ilitis

This is a political purchase by the liberal government to make it look like they support the military...and at 30 to 40 million it is a deal of a deal...liberals get air time and liberal voters get to feel good about their government...This vehicle has so many drawbacks it does not make sense in any role in latvia...Kind of like a skidoo only good in the winter, this one only really good in the summer or fall...would it not make more sense to buy something that could be heated, used all year round......enclosed, armored of some type.... What does not make sense is placing a LT infantry force in a light role mixed in with a mechanized battle group, both have very different roles and mission sets...like oil and water..they don't mix well... MRZR were to carry heavy weapons like TOW, Mortars, heavy HMG's....combat support vehicles...not troop transports...

For now yes it does look good, And Ukraine is reinforcing the area...from where is the question? reinforcing one sector means weakening another...Thats the big problem your neglecting, Russian forces have forces spread all over Russia , that can be used without worries about weaken a sector on the ukrainian front lines... Again i ask what gains will this give Ukraine... We all have dreams, but in reality I'd say maybe a mouth or two...at best... The 2024 budget that germany has set aside has already been packaged and delivered....with 4 1/2 months left in this year it is time to get 2025 up and running...and it has been cut in half, as a cost saving measure...as they are struggling rearming their own country...My question to you is do you think this is going to be the new trend, NATO countries cutting back...Germany has been one of the larger contributors....many other NATO countries have been giving the bare minimum...look at my country Canada, has barely even made a worthy contribution...the US / UK and german have made up the bulk of the contributions... Most of the aid that is being sent is Ammo, air defence equipment, IFV...i mean if it was not for US support this entire project would collapse on itself, But what Ukraine is screaming for is much more air defense equipment, tanks, IFVs and a greater supply of arty/ rocket ammo...I'm sure ukraine is extremely grateful, but current aid is not enough...nor is it fast enough.. Yes they did get F-16, very early models, that NATO countries are getting rid off and replacing them with newer or different aircraft...so far i think just over 70-80 will be donated, some are due to arrive in 2024 and the rest in 2025...they will be delivered piece meal...and not in any great numbers that will make a great difference... The F16 is much better than what they are flying right now, even though they are early models, and they will make a difference in the skies over Ukraine, no doubt in my mind...but many organizations don't see it that way, they think much more is needed in order to complete all of Ukraines airfare missions...65 aircraft are what is needed just for air superiority, no other mission suchs as ground attack, etc.... https://www.csis.org/analysis/f-16s-unleashed-how-they-will-impact-ukraines-war I gave you 2 or 3 sources that state Germany is cutting it's aid in half...2025 is only 4 1/2 months away, and the 2024 budget has already been spent of given to ukraine...not sure what your point is... The Ukraine incursion is only 2 weeks old, and we are just now seeing it develop, you see it as some glories event, and i see it as a waste of manpower and resources, for no real realist goals.... My narrative is my opinion, you don't have to like it, just like your posts are your opinion, i'm not trying to convince you of anything, I've posted sources, to back up my statements, that's all i can really do, it is a discussion forum right...

If it is a SMP type vehicle it will see battle field usage, if it is strictly an administration vehicle, and not see battle field usage, why not just buy an civilian market truck or van for a much cheaper price...Not sure what you see in this vehicle...it really does not have much value...and the whole pushing this purchase through quickly is confusing at most...plenty of equipment the army could use in Latvia with a higher priority that could be pushed through...It also begs the question what is the reserve LAV 6.0 for if not prepositioned for fly over formations... True enough, Ukraine marines are involved in the incursion into russia, but they are also backed up by tanks and IFV's such as BMP's or Bradly's...armored Humvees,

I think he did address the fact they will used in a near peer conflict, meaning mechanized or armored type battles....where having LT infantry in these vehs would be insane....I could understand if they were being used to haul around heavy weapons like tow, or mortars, Heavy MG...even in Afghanistan LT infantry would train on the LAVs as a source of transport...atleast they had the 25 mm...Don't get me wrong there is a time and place for LT infantry, just not in a mechanized outfit...give them something armored like BV 210, now that they could use...as the British LT infantry used in Afghanistan...open air vehicles proved deadly as a form of transport in Afghanistan which is why we stop using open air ilitis....Weather has already been mentioned...Latvia is an arctic country with some brutal winters...not to mention they are still cramped...cramped means a slow dismount...which is bad in a fighting situation The only unit that i seen with open air vehicles has been JTF...with HumVes while in Canada, in Afghanistan they used armored Toyota land cruisers... So of all the vehicles or equipment we could have purchased i ask myself why these...when there is so much more and better on the market...besides the cool factor not sure why this vehicle......wonder how many bugs you would eat..or how much the troops would modify the sh1t out of it.....
-
One would think so, but what about all the other programs that take 20 to 30 years to purchase that don't really add up to much take a look at our pistols for instance...have you seen the replacement for the SMG yet, ya that is still a thing....

Are you saying that troop composition is not already known...exact numbers are not known , but rough numbers are already known to everyone with intra net access...and i'm betting well known to Russia and Ukraine allied...Although this guy is also an airchair warriors he does bring up some interesting points... Can you honestly tell me, that Ukraine is going to hold this area, and if so for how long....So what is the real gain here ? This gain is temporary at best, Russia has not really responded to this incursion other than sending bits and pieces from various units...But thinking Russia has all of it's troops tied up in ukraine is simply a wishful dream...What is scaring NATO right now is that very question Why has Russia not fully responded and what are they going to do... This is the second incursion into Russia, If Russia does reinforce the borders, Ukraine will have to do the same...and for a nation that is strapped for troop where are they going to get them from...if Ukraine don't reinforce those same borders will be porous for the russians to open up new fronts Germanys cutting its support to Ukraine by more than Half, as a cost cutting measure....I wonder how long other nations will take to follow suit...and i have said before what about all the uncertainty of the US election...what do you think will happen in a trump win ? https://ca.news.yahoo.com/analysis-cutting-germanys-military-aid-204446790.html https://www.euronews.com/2024/08/19/analysis-cutting-germanys-military-aid-to-ukraine-will-have-a-major-impact Yes i have been talking about Russian gains, and not to take anything away from Ukraine incursion, it is working out much better than they planed for....i mean they have currently over 4 brigades worth of troops there...some of their best troops , against russian conscripts...But then again ask your self honestly do you think Russia is going to do nothing? and when they do something do you think they will be able to hold....now stack that against what if these same troops were used to push Russian troops out of Ukraine or reinforce current Ukrainian forces on the defensive lines......And where did these Ukrainian troops come from, they came from the front lines, so some where they weaken their lines to put in place this incursion... Yes the first time since WWII Russia has been invaded...It is fantastic they are making history....but really where does that medal go on your uniform...and what does it get you in this conflict... I guess in a few weeks we will see if it was truly worth the cost...like you i don't have a crystal ball, but i do follow those that have better insight than i do... If thats how you see me then so be it, call me whatever you want, but show me where the my facts are wrong, and i'll provide you with a source to back that up....Do you really think that Ukraine on its own can compete with Russian resources, and manpower....do you really think NATO is providing enough support ? Has russian losses affected it's determination to take ground? Is Russia taking ground ? Do you think the F-16 are going to be a game changer ? How many is Ukraine getting ? How many do you think they'll really need ? NAto supply is but a a drip to what it was once...how many NATO tanks have been donated in the last 6 months...How many Air defense systems, how many IFV, western nations are doing two things at once here, rearming themselves first, what is left over is given to Ukraine...I mean i know your an american, but my country is sitting on more equipment that needs to be replaced and we have given only 8 possible 12 leopard IIA4M tanks...we could have given them the whole fleet for what it cost to replace them all.... Now Germany is cut it's aid in half, it won't be long before others follow Germany is not the only nation deep in debt....And Canada is not alone in cheaping out on donations there are plenty of others.... The question to surrender would depend on IS NATO going to step up and give them the equipment to go on the offensive....because that is the only way to throw a nation off your territory... IS Russia making gains in territory ? Look like i said before Ukraines position is not a positive one,to many moving pieces to many things are being relied on.... just look at the facts, they all point to things are not looking good at the moment....and if you see a temporary russian land grab as making great changes on the battlefield you're wrong, it looks good right now, but in a month will you still see it as a positive... And i'm not really to concern about how people see my motives....And i'm not here to convert the masses to seeing it my way, I'm call them as i see them, everyone has a choice to respond or ignore...This conflict is not all rainbows and unicorns as the media sometimes portrays...

the new trucks....old news but some more info ...

NATO has changed with the times and now is involved more globally, not sure why that bothers you so much..

I think the mission was meant as a distraction, perhaps to have Russia pull soldier from elsewhere to counter, Ukraine is hoping those troops come from areas that Russia is pushing right now... I'm pretty sure Ukraine did not plan it being so successful...With no protection on the flanks it would not take much to cut off their means of resupply and withdrawal....so yes it kind of makes it a kamikaze mission...WAR is hell, not sure if you have time in combat, but throwing soldiers lives away for no real gain, is a waste of human lives...and the excuse of war is hell does not cut it with the guy on the ground that is doing the dying...being there many times, has hardened my opinion....soldiers want to know that their lives are not going to be wasted on some task that will not effect the outcome of the conflict... What is my purpose or motivation, about criticizing it, I think i have been pretty non bias about my criticism on the whole conflict, I'm not a Russian cheerleader or shrill as some have suggested, i full support Ukraines right to defend itself from Russia, i have called out on many times NATO lack of support, like they don't want this war to end...or afraid of how the optics look to Russia don't poke the bear comes to mind...And now some countries are withdrawing their support to ukraine , germany being one of them, this is a huge blow to ukraine as germany is a huge supporter...How long do you think before other nations follow the same path...then there is the US election coming will the winner continue to support Ukraine, I'm sure the Ukrainian government is pondering all of these questions and have to be influencing all their current decisions... Ukraine is producing massive russian casualties while defending sending these units some of their best units i might add, off on this adventure, sounds and looks desperate for one, those troops could have been used in areas that truly need them on the defensive side of the line...But it is not having much effect on Russian current war plans...add in to the fact NATO is not going to supply weapons in numbers that would allow Ukraine to go on the offensive...one has to wonder, how long is the war going to last? how much ground is russia going to take ? How much longer is NATO going to support Ukraine ? One thing that should be crystal clear right now is Russia is not bother by the huge daily losses of men and equipment....NATO can not resupply Ukraine fast enough , supplies and equipment are coming in in dribs and dabbles...and are consumed as soon as they arrive... Ukraine is asking it self everyday, how they continue to fight for their nation, with Russia slowly advancing on most fronts, lack of NATO support, and now some NATO countries turning off the taps....Why would they not look at all their options ? Ukraine is facing some tough decisions right now, it is losing ground to the Russians daily, it as already demonstrated it is not concerned with losses of men and equipment, Russia is not willing to come to the table right now unless Ukraine offers them something big...NATO supply is dwindling, and will come to an end....US elections are a big question on who is going to win and what happens to US support after elections.... Is the war hopeless....you tell me, do you see NATO aid turning the corner and giving Ukraine the weapons in numbers they need to go on the offensive....with out this NATO aid it is only a matter of time before Ukraine forces weaken and Russia makes huge gains...Everyone here continues to say Russia is losing huge numbers everyday...But so is Ukraine, which has only so many soldiers that are trained and experience, soon they will be on the same footing as Russia putting in green troops with barely a few weeks training... NATO is the problem here, not my comments or others on this forum....without NATO support it is my opinion that Ukraine will not be able to hold back Russia...Surrender is an option, not a very attractive one but so is to bring Russia to the table to negotiate...
-
Funny i thought i had already proven that fact to you, even gave you colorful maps so you could follow along...I don't recall ever saying it was phenomenal progress, but rather slow and steady....lets not rehash all of that again shall we...it upsets your british DUI talking head.... What brand is that ?, let me guess the Russian cheerleading crowd that brand....or perhaps the the i'm a disgraced soldier brand, i'm not sure what brand it is any more...

I'm not justifying my statement to you or anyone else. My family is as safe as i can make them, that's my concern, you sir worry about you and yours....i've got 34 years of military training i don't need any tips on how to keep my family safe from others....I've yet to have any issues with the LGBTQ community, or any bad interactions, we don't see eye to eye on everything, and for those that i have interacted with, they are good with that...they stay in their lane and i stay in mine, Just As i don't see eye to eye with your beliefs...we are not traveling done the same path....world has already got to much hate in it already... I have had a long career serving ALL Canadians, you sir don't get to pick and choose which Canadians are worthy and who is not....do i like the fact that biological men are playing women sports no i don't....but in the end they are Canadians and deserve respect like anyone else... Thats my stand, I'm perfectly good with my sexuality....It sounds like your struggling with yours...

The media act against the population
Army Guy replied to Gaétan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Actually what has the green party done for Canada, what have they brought to the table, nothing really, except miss windbag...they got nothing......NDP are no more than props for the liberals... Over the last 4 years the NDP has had more influence on Canadian politics than they ever had, some call it black mail, but NDP has put some of their agenda on the liberal maps...Will it survive the purge, i don't think so....Canada is a trillion dollars in debt, some of these new social programs will no doubt be cut....To those that voted for NDP was it worth it....or will that party burn like the liberals... -
Look i don't know what you where to gain by showing those pictures, it does nothing for your cause, and like i said it is not an accepted practice here in the west, be it Russian or Ukrainian soldiers...i asked you what do you think if the family or friends sees those images, if they were family or friends of your would you want some person spreading them over the intra net....it is considered disrespect to the soldiers , family, friends....

I Need to Ask Millennials--Why Are your Kids so Awful?
Army Guy replied to a topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Maybe thats part of the problem that there is not enough people that do care, or put a thought into it....most parents put their trust into our educators to produce smart little humans....and have not given much thought to what tech is doing to our little people, or how it is changing our education priorities...just a thought... -
I Need to Ask Millennials--Why Are your Kids so Awful?
Army Guy replied to a topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
I don't think it is about them being curious, or unable to learn....it is about the effects of mordern media, that shapes they way they learn , not all of them are bad, but there is some bad side effects....the internet was invented and children were thrust into a vastly different environment in which, because distraction is the norm, consistent attention is impossible, imagination is unnecessary, and memory is inhibited. It all in that link i provided above. Were we as kids forced to play outside, explore our world through our senses like touch, smell etc...we played sports, board games, the majority of todays kids don't do all of that, its all available to them at the touch of a button....only today you don't know if the information they are receiving is true or not... -
I Need to Ask Millennials--Why Are your Kids so Awful?
Army Guy replied to a topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Cell phones are just one chunk of the problem, it is todays modern tech, access to the intra net, from online gaming to access to info be it factual or false news, and it is not just today's generation, it is all the gens from the inception of the intra net to now...There are dozens of articles written about it this very topic....it is funny that despite the sources your first reaction is to call bullshit... do you have kids in school or grandkids in school...ask them about the violence at schools, ask them about some of the issues Teachers are having controlling children, or just plain teaching....I live in NB small towns, and it is evident here, and in the larger cities like Fredericton..... I'm surprise at Michaels response he has said he has friends that are teachers...in much larger cities, should be glaring examples. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/the-power-of-prime/201212/how-technology-is-changing-the-way-children-think-and-focus -
I was actually thinking about everything it takes to preserving life, liberty, and all your rights we enjoy today...That's where the left (you) and the rest of Canada differ, King and country are of the utmost importance, worthy of defending with your life if necessary...today the left have done everything in it's power to dismantle everything that made this country great....I am hoping that once the conservatives take power things will return back to normal. Don't worry i'm sure the left will get back their tampon donations soon enough.

The drone i am scared off is the one that you don't see, and is spotting for some arty unit, about to unload a world of hurt with a barrage of highly accurate 155mm shells, i'd rather face some drone with a RPG warhead tring to target me than accurate arty fire.
-
I agree it is another tool in the tool box, but countermeasures are already in play...all of that being said, everyone in the forces are expendable, it's great that a machine can take some of the risker missions, but at some point a human is going into the battle space....Just look at the Arleigh Burke flt 4 and 5 designs looking at 128 VSL tubes...thats a lot of missiles, considering some carrier 4 missiles per tubes.
-
Germans have developed a new counter munition type of protection for top attack... Swedes had advance armor for top protection on their leopards for years... KF41 also has increased gun movement can be armed with 30 or 35 mm auto air burst munitions, 4 or 5 rounds and your drones get melted...new smaller radar is also being developed for ground applications in in some cases already operational to detect and kill drones..the germans/french/ and americans have already fielded proto type units..on each of their advanced tank models.
-
They have been saying that for decades....and yet here we are still fighting with tanks and aircraft carriers...drones have shaped a new weapon of war, but like any weapon they will find a counter measure...look at the new tanks designs coming out becasue of the ukraine conflict, now armed with a 30 mm anti air cannon, and radar...not to mention mobile air defences with just short range cannons... just for those pesky drones...
