Theories of Indigenous Origin in the Americas
-1=e^ipi replied to Smallc's topic in Health, Science and Technology
Wow, is jacee being a science denier now? 'In 1916, someone argued a different position based on linguistic evidence. Linguistic evidence is the best evidence we have!' Sounds like Ted Cruz, with respect to satellite data. Archaeological and genetic evidence are in agreement with 'First Nations' descending primarily from the Clovis migration (with a few groups coming earlier than that). -
Brotherhood without banners. I guess I was wrong on Margery-Gendry. Are Cersei and Euron going to make an alliance next season? They both love violence and they have common interests.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaLk3l4m7zk Go to 2:00. There is a cache of wildfire under the sept of balor. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqBnZnW8p7U Go to 0:30. 'The rumor is true, there is more, much more.' I think we can infer Cersei's plan for the finale.

Nah, knowledge is power. Even if he no longer had control over Robin, he would still be Lord of Harrenhall, Protector of the North, lots of money and informants working for him, good relations with Cersei, Olenna, Sansa, the Iron Bank, etc. Not to mention that's incest.

That was realistic. Go see Betsy's link.

They exist. But not all of the people that criticize Anita Sarkeesian are 'evil misogynists'.

Lots of people deny it. Many people claim the opposite and will deny the obvious implications of the Oreopoulos studies when confronted with evidence. According to the world bank, the male youth unemployment rate is 15%, while the female youth unemployment rate is 12%. http://data.worldbank.org/indicator/SL.UEM.1524.MA.NE.ZS http://data.worldbank.org/indicator/SL.UEM.1524.FE.NE.ZS Of course that doesn't tell the full story because discouraged workers, or people in long term unemployment are not taken into account for the definition of 'unemployment rate'. You see this in other countries as well. For example, in the states, 16-19 year old men have a 20% unemployment rate, where as women only have a 15% unemployment rate. http://www.bls.gov/web/empsit/cpseea10.htm Here's a link on how unemployed NEETs in Canada are primarily men: http://www.statcan.gc.ca/pub/75-001-x/2012002/article/11675-eng.htm#a1 For job stability, I was referring to work like this: http://aix1.uottawa.ca/~pbrochu/CJE%20paper.pdf Unfortunately, the figures are missing. I'll see if I can find a better link. Here is similar work: https://open.library.ubc.ca/cIRcle/collections/ubctheses/831/items/1.0100332 Where a persistent 5% retention rate for low tenured workers (i.e. primarily young people) was found (see page 55). From memory, the gap is higher now than it was 5 years ago and it's higher for young people, but I'll have to find a link. For earnings, here are some links (just use google): https://www.theguardian.com/money/2015/aug/29/women-in-20s-earn-more-men-same-age-study-finds http://content.time.com/time/business/article/0,8599,2015274,00.html

She didn't win any lawsuits or settlements. She just had to play the damsel in distress being 'harassed' by all the evil 'misogynists' that disagree with her. And of course the media is happy to go along with it, since it fits the narratives they want to convey.

The same studies by Philip Oreopoulos show are larger and more statistically significant female name bias. Are you going to admit that men are discriminated against when it comes to hiring?
-
Maybe. You could also use some sort of exponential decay towards equilibrium model.
-
Anita Sarkeesian disagrees. She's received over a million dollars playing the victim card.
-
No, not even close. Equality has never been reached, and now we are in a period of extreme gynocentrism.

I know, for example, Saudi Arabia has freedom of speech, you just aren't free from consequences. So if you are born a Muslim and you declare that Islam is false and you have changed your religion, you can totally do that, but there are consequences (such as death). Freedom of speech is more than what rules the government imposes. It is a culture. A culture that allowed for the free exchange of ideas and for ideas to compete in a free marketplace, is one that is successful in the long run since the best ideas rise up above the rest.

Not yet. Give it time.
-
No, it will be very beneficial. The sooner we confuse all the sexes and genders, the sooner people will be treated equally and the sooner sexism dies.

Nevermind. They were banned from all future events: https://www.vice.com/en_ca/read/we-spoke-to-the-anonymous-activist-who-helped-ban-mras-from-toronto-pride At least they can attend the Ottawa pride parade.

Any news on if the Canadian Association for Equality will be allowed to participate in Toronto Pride? Or will they be barred by hateful bigots like last year?

1. The broadbent institute doesn't know how to do a proper attribution study, where you control for multiple explanatory variables. 2. Socioeconomic status and immigrant status is correlated with race. Not taking these things into account will bias results. 3. This says nothing about the women vs men discrepancy. Young women earn more than men, have lower unemployment rates, higher employment stability, 2 to 1 hiring advantage in STEM, etc. Unlike race, where differences in outcomes persist due to socioeconomic status, you can't get this effect with sex.

It goes well beyond quotas.
