Again its false, take a few books about him before saying stupid stuff... At that time even the federalist opposition was against it.And since that, quebec federalist never accepted the constitution and our provincial assembly unanimously refused it many times. Even a die hard federalist like Jean charest never signed it. Even after this whole consititution history, he continued in what he called the "Beau risque" wich was cleary a way to find a compromise. At that time all the die hard separatist like parizeau resigned and quitted the PQ. On the other hand when we could finally reach a compromise with murloney, trudeau and his friend put presure to destroy any possibility of compromise. Where you in the mafia or Rcmp or what ? why are you scared to say what organization ? because you will be identified as an extremist ?

There is no compromise on the table because of the separatists in Quebec will shoot down any reasonable proposal by making absurd demands and branding any Quebequer who attempts to make such a compromise as a 'sell-out'. Alberta finds that its desires for reform are ignored because it is impossible to deal with Alberta's concerns as long as the Quebec separatists are poisoning the debate. It is a vicious circle that can only be broken by rejecting seperation as option.An anology to consider: is it possible to negotiate compromise with terrorists who are willing to blow people up if they don't get what they want? Since that constitution, evrything changed, canada became more and more centralized. even after a vicious thing like that, levesque did continue to try to come to a compromise and bring us to the meech lake accord. Then, meech was shut down by ppl like trudeau and chertiens. The best proof is that even right now with 2 liberal government and someone like jean charest who is way more federalist than any previous liberal chief, nothing is getting done. Its the statut quo, Worst, they are still fighting against each others on numerous subject....

The unity of the country is wounded, why not fix it ? isn't that called a compromise. Id like to see something that can truly represent the whole country and make it stronger. All i see is ppl that want to fix it and ppl that doesn't understand why we should fix it. Maybe they think it would be easyer to change others peoples mind that to actually fix the problem.

The last one that tryed to find a compromize is called Brian murloney and he his seen by many english canadian as a traitoir to his country...

Its more something related to colonialism than a symbol we can be proud of and its alot widly spread in both faction, the separatist and federalist. Best system of government ? 2 provinces wants out and the house of common became a circus with this conservative vs liberal war... Well honestly wasting money always makes me mad either its 20millions or 200millions but the thing is the GG is a joke and could be easily fixed... nobody knows her outside canada and she his supposed to represent us ? and we can't even vote for her... I don't get it, how can you imagine i want a ditactorship. I said i want an elected senate, head of states and better selected judge. I want a central government smaller to appease the fact that the government is already elected before we start to count the west vote. And you didn't understood, I didn't say i loved bush or i wanted someone like him for president, actually when i was talking about the president with some kind of supreme diplomat function, i was refering to France that has a system like that. You see, all i want is more democracy and a better adapted government.

I really think that the only way to save canada would be a major reform to get rid of our ridiculous archaïc system. And since many doesnt seems to know why we should change, ill tell you why i think we should. Not only i think we should, if its not done, canada will die. Just think about it, right now we have a minority government choosing a GG wich is suppose to be the main canadian head of states... In reality she has no power except to spend millions of $ to visit and shake hands of ppl in other country. ITs all she can do.... she won't talk politics issue or discuss with the world leaders, a GG is just like a dummy, it doesn't have any authority, opinion or power...What is the point of having someone to represent the country if nobody knows her outside of canada... We need someone with real power. It could be someone like the supreme diplomat of the country a bit like its working in france. Someone with prestige and that evryone will know outside canada. Someone who would be in charge of the foreign affairs. What visibility in the rest of the world the GG has ? NO visibility at all. What visibility the French president Jacques Chirac or the american presidant George Bush has ? They are problably the 2 most know politician on the planet! But thats not the most ridiculous thing, we have a federal government wich can pretty much do anything he wants... The federal government is the only one that can interpret our constitution. And by the way, we NEVER voted for that constitution wich is totally undemocratic and absurd. But even more absurd is that quebec never signed it... A constitution wich its own people doesnt even want has no reason to exist...If something as much important as a constitution, the base of the country isn't universally accepted, then its sure we will have a hard time keeping our unity....In other word, our constitution worth absolutly nothing because it doesnt protect us at all from our government and its not even legitimate. But thats not all about our outdated system, we have one of the worst and useless senate system in occident... Our supreme court judge are being choosen by the government and they are often not based on their efficacity but on their friendships with the government. Another thing that is totally unacceptable is the way the government are elected. Even though the liberal doesn't get vote in the west, they rule over the whole country... It is unacceptable, how can this government represent the west with almost no deputy ? There is trully something wrong and not fair when we already know who won the election before the west vote has not been counted yet...Canada became a real monarchy where ontario decide pretty much by itself who is gonna rule canada and the other provinces even when they massivly vote against, won't have the choice but to deal with them and in the best scenario, will end up with a minority government. We need to grow up, act and stop this monarchaic system before its too late. You know what it make me think of ? a bunch of children playing "the queen" dressing like her, playing to the senate when we all know its just a stupid game, we all know its bullshit but we keep acting like children and continue playing like if it was funny... When we where child it was funny but we must grow up and go for a modern republic system. A truly democratic and effective system. Im not saying to copy exaclty the system in france or in the united states but at least take their sample to build our very own modern republic system wich would fit us like a glove and please evryone. A system where the democratically elected senate that would have a true role, with a drastically more just and democratic selection of our supreme court judge. A true democratically elected and usefull head of states with prestige and a world wide reputation. We also need a true constitution which seems fair for all the part of the country and not only the liberal trudeau vision...A constitution strong enough to defend us against the government and a referendum to enact this constitution and make it a democratic and legitimate one. We need a central government that deal with the reality of today, evry province is unique and some are pretty damn different... We need a government that can respect and reflect this reality, a smaller and decentralized government. Our government system has to adapt to the new world ! there is no place for arrogant central government or useless unelected people like the GG and the senate. I know some people doesn't understand why we should change, well its because it keep us from having a real head of states and legislative system. If we don't change, its just gonna get worst and worst and the country will desintegrate. All this can be done if we really want it ! if we don't well with the presure its gonna happend one day anyway but it may not be called Canada anymore.

Interesting stats... If the liberal stay in power a few more year, im sure it will destroy the country. Its already 90% sure quebeckers are heading for another referendum in less than 2 years, if alberta can't stand the liberal too, its gonna get mad... Specially if the country split up and quebec goes, it would pretty much mean an endless ontarian liberal reign over canada if its not already the case... Im not sure alberta would apreciate it.

Thats external debt which is a very different stat then national debt, which is something that is almost impossible to actually calculate with any real accuracy. But the CIA method is a rather twisted one to say the least. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah im talking about quebec's debt, if we add our share of the federal debt wich is something like 140billion from the federal to have a consolidated debt of 260billion wich is enormous. Though these days, most of the big country are doing 10-70 and some even 100billions deficit per year like in europe or even more billions for china and usa. The only country with no deficit are oil sellers and really conservative country like britain and australia and scandiavian country's. The big problem with this factbook is they don't consolidate evry level of government's debt... so those stats are pretty much useless. In reality i think canada's total debt may be near 800 billions if we count the city's debt then maybe a bit more. Usa's debt in the book is 1.4 trillion while in reality its more like 7,2 trillion $ debt... France is not in the list though they have 1,1 trillion € debt...

Its a possibility and it would be a nice publicity for a new country. The 2 last olympics event made a 1,5 billions construction cost deficit, considering many 1976 installations could be used in montreal with some work it could problably help to lower the cost drastically, the olympic stadium being the big money drainer, maybe we could just find a way to improve our old one and give it some style. With our enormous ~110 billions debt, i don't think making a 1 billion deficit is a big deal, we won't even notice ;p

We learned from our mistake, i think that we could organize an event like this with our experience and make it profitable for montreal. Maybe not make it profitable in $$ but make it profitable in publicity and prestige.

Specifically because she played in a popular quebec movie "Deux femmes en or" in the 1970's wich i would qualify as soft porn Unfortunatly i cant find picture of her while she was younger :/ if i remember well she was pretty, now she his old and ugly. But something that could be interesting would be like in france where they have a prime minister like us for the federal government and a President wich is independant, and have limited power like taking care of the foreign affaire, international role and etc. Someone wich would give a spirit to this country. Bakunin, that makes no sense at all. Why would America want to organize itself like a continent that has a history of war? (As recently as 10 years ago, Europeans were still killing each other. I note that the London bombings fell on the 10th anniversary of the Srebnica massacres.) I mean many empire tried to control europe, now an empire is slowly rising without bloodbath, its something very interesting and promising for the future. However in America, we will soon have to face the rise of china/india/japan and the new europe. America has already begun to decline, we have to react before its too late. We will have to help the usa if we don't want to decline too. We have to innovate, we could start by harmonizing our money, many south american country already adopted the american dollars. we could have the same passport, a better military and security cooperation. Free trade, unite our voice when possible at the UN, OMC and etc... We must rebuild link and preserve our economic domination.

There is a railway near the road when i go to montreal, those thing are huge !! they can push kilometers of containers. however, outside the big city, those railway have been converted in bike and rollerblade roads. I think that if we would have a better railway system, like highspeed or larger and electric rail, it would help the environment and be more efficient than truck. However its an impossible task for a government to handle something comlpex like that. They already showed us we can't count on them even for the easyer tasks...

There are alot of movie maker in america that lack of skill, in any other country, they wouldn't be able to finance their movies. Usa does have good movie maker and makes most of the best movie but the people are getting tired of the american formula. Even a talented movie maker like Spielberg just made prolly the worst movie of his career this year with "War of the world".

I think its time to abolish all this monarchist bullshit. Its costly, its not democratic and its obsolete... We just saw that even with a minority government, the power is exclusive to the parliamant. British and canada must grow up just like the american and the french did...

Its not a horror movie but it is clearly a sad story. There is a scene in particular, a scene that touched me alot, i will remember it all my life. We see the 10 years old little girl, half dead sleeping on a really dirty floor. Blood on her nose, all her corpse burned and wounded evrywhere on her arms and legs.. evry inch of her corpse was wounded, Then the sun light come from the windows, we see a dove comming from the windows and land next to her hand, see try to get up with her arms but the light fade and the dove dissapear then she lie down. It wasn't a crappy movie with wound looking like fake. It was such realistic.. it was frightning. Im really happy because like 3-4 years ago, quebeckers where not interested in quebec movie, then we had an exceptional year with "the barbarian invasion" who won the foreign movie Oscar and lots of award evrywhere on the globe and since that, the industry is such sucessfull, now even the american movies have a hard time to compete quebec movies. in 5 more years, we will have an even stronger movie industry, and maybe an international market who knows ? They will both get 1 or more genie awards im sure. We only have 1 problem, its hard to export sub-titled movies. They tryed to export "the barbarian invasion" in usa but it wasn't a succes. So we can only rely on the worldwide french comunity. In english canada, if your a successfull actor or movie maker 99,9% of the time, you move to the united states, i think thats what is making english canada unable to create its own movie industry. The american movie industry is really strong, they produce lots of movie. they produce most of the movie in the world and im sure its the basement of what became the american society because since their worldwide movies are selling to the rest of the world the american: culture, value, way of life, and thinking. Its really easy for them to become the #1 attraction in the world. After such a promotion of the usa, no wonder evry skilled immigrants, business dealers, artists want to go there... Without the american movie and music industy, their is no american way of life. In quebec and prolly in the rest of the world too, ppl are getting tired of american movies. I read somewhere that the american movie are facing a crisis, they are slowly losing their share a bit evrywhere in the world. Im a big movie fan, 4 year ago i was listening only american movie, now i think less than 50% of the movie i see are american and i must admit, most of the time im really disapointed. "War of the world" is a sample... ive never seen such a bad speilberg movie in my life except "jurasic park 3" of course :/ . I saw a german movie a few month ago, a really good movie about hitler last week before he commited a suicide. It was a terrific. Im starting to watch korean and asian movies, im now a fan of the france movie industry, i like the german movies and i even saw a south american movie. It is such more exciting to so a foreign movie than see the old american (good vs bad) hollywood movie. Im not saying all american movie are bad but alot are not interesting to watch anymore, alot are only based on commercial viability and using the same old hollywood formula... There is a small american elite movie maker that are very interesting though in other country, only the elite can survive.
