Yeah, LATER, after the coalition rejected the austerity budget, and got the increased spending they demanded (while still crying that it wasn't enough), THEN they replaced Dion, and Ignatieff voted in favor of the budget that Dion had negotiated with Harper.

Russians are hard, tough people though. They thrive under conditions that most people would wilt from. You could accommodate a larger Canadian population more easily if the right kinds of infrastructure were either in place, or at least ready to go. Not only do highways, bridges, power and telecommunication grids, etc have to be there for people to even want to try to move into our wide open spaces, but you can also attract a lot more immigration just to work on building such things.

As usual, you're listing dubious opinions and revisionist histories, while I'm discussing the actual facts. 2008–09 Canadian parliamentary dispute Broadbeck has his timeline just as mixed up as you do: Dion, not Ignatieff, was designated to take over as PM if the GG were to accept the coalition: Opposition agrees to coalition with Dion as PM

While population and military might are certainly important, this point cannot be understated. It's vitally important that we start pushing through major infrastructure projects when they need to get done. Whether it's a highway, an energy plant, a pipeline, or a bridge, major projects for the greater need to be just built. We used to be able to just get things built, and we desperately need to go back to that.

You don't get to just make up a new history just because you don't like the real one. The coalition was formed AFTER the Nov 2008 fiscal update, and the threat to bring the government down was very specifically because they wanted substantial stimulus spending, rather than the modest spending cuts that Flaherty was proposing. Harper asked the GG to prorogue Parliament after that, in order to start a new sitting of parliament with anew throne speech and a new budget. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008–09_Canadian_parliamentary_dispute

It's what happened. The CPC introduced a far different (much smaller) budget, and the opposition, who had more seats, rejected it and demanded more spending. It's a called reality, you really should visit sometime.
-
Yes, we can. One of the best this country has ever seen. A minority parliament forced a massive deficit upon them that was not part of their plan at all, and they still managed to substantially cut taxes, grow the economy, increase government revenue, restore the funding that the previous government had cut, make substantial increases to many essential programs, and still retire that deficit in record time. And they did all of that despite weathering a massive global recession in the middle of it.

Just as anyone who is transgender is lying about their sex. It's hilarious watching the lefties twist and contort to try to clainmthat these are somehow different. They are EXACTLY the same concept -- someone pretending to be something that they are not.

The distinct difference between the union ads, and the ones the Conservatives have done, is the level of honesty. The CPC ads have certainly been unflattering, but they have always been demonstrably factual -- usually using the other guy's own words. These new union ones are the most dishonest ads I've ever seen. Attack all you want, but if you have to flat out lie to get your supposed point across, all that means is you don't really have one.

Absolutely. It's not scripture, people need to stop treating it like it is. It's just a piece of paper written by fallible human beings.

Another great suggestion, were should definitely force the SCC to do that too.

Truth and Reconciliation - Moving Forward
Bryan replied to Michael Hardner's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Unfortunately you're right on both counts. The only way forward is to scrap the Indian Act entirely. Until we do, it's just going to be more of the same. And, it likely never will be scrapped, because every time that gets brought up, you just get more of the same. The people who claim to be the ones who care the most, work their hardest to make sure there is never a resolution. -
Another good point -- while revising the constitution, make sure to make clear restrictions on what the SCC is and is not allowed to rule on.

Modern Liberalism. Where the hypocrisy is not a bug, it's the main feature.
-
That's a good idea. Rather than people fearing reopening the constitution, it should be mandatory that we at least re-examine it after a certain passage of time.
-
There's something particularly delicious about an incident that can tie both the lunacy and the hypocrisy of the left up in such a neat little bow.

The only CBC programming to even crack the top 30 nationally is still hockey. No CBC news programming whatsoever shows up in the Numeris rankings. CTV and Global, on the other hand, do have their news programs show up fairly regularly. http://assets.numeris.ca/Downloads/May%2025%20-%20May%2031,%202015%20(National).pdf

That's a fun story for a movie, but it in no way reflects real life.

Alberta's NDP government appoints out of province staff
Bryan replied to Argus's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Why is anyone surprised? At least Albertans can't say that nobody warned them. -

Truth and Reconciliation... Legitimacy
Bryan replied to Scott Mayers's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I've spent a lot of time on reserves, and I've yet to encounter one that was that conveniently located. Things must be very different in your area. -
No worries about standing up to it if it ever happens. It's the constant accusations of it when nothing of the sort is happening that are nothing but inflammatory name calling.
