  1. People don't think it's any use to report anymore. A slap on the wrist, and a perp who is now freshly pissed off at you for tattling is just not worth it.
  2. No, I'm being dismissive. In kimmy's example, the people said "where are you from" is the #1 thing that "pisses them off". Having someone tell me that wouldn't upset me at all, but it would let me know that I'm not talking to a reasonable person.
  3. This is an important point that deserves to be reinforced. The hypocrisy is really astounding that asking someone where they are from is considered a form of aggression (micro or not), but overt dismissal of an entire gender and/or race is not. The tiniest misunderstanding on one side is a big enough deal to need policies about it, but outright and overt discrimination and aggression against the other side is perfectly acceptable.
  4. Which is fine the first time it happens. If it's a misunderstanding, and you've had what you misunderstood explained to you, it's no longer reasonable for you to get offended at the same question the next time someone says it.
  5. There was nothing wrong with you asking that question. Everyone of every colour asks and gets asked that anywhere they go. It's a courteous question, a very acceptable icebreaker. Anyone getting offended by it is a hypersensitive jackass.
  6. If that's true, then sure. The reasons someone requests a special seating assignment don't even matter. If you can do it before hand, go for it.
  7. Welcome to the real world, not everyone acts how you'd like them to. Their money is still good.
  8. The money they are spending I have no issue with, but they definitely should not be allowed to blatantly lie like that.
  9. Why is it wrong to accommodate a customer if you can do it in a way that other customers are oblivious?
  10. Then your general consideration is diametrically opposed to reality.
  11. Many countries who either have no official language, or have one that is not english still have a large cross-section of the population who go out of their way to learn english because it's in their best interest to do so.
  12. I sure hope not. The expense of having to have french is already inflating the cost of Canadian consumer goods as it is. People complain about US prices being lower than the exchange rate would indicate they should be, then turn around and demand that manufacturers add more expense to the packaging. A smarter solution for global trade, IMO, would be have one label in the dominant language of a given region with a website listing that has translations of the label in a bunch of other languages.
  13. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/the-price-of-winnipegs-water-man-made-misery-for-a-native-community/article23417422/ They have a water system already built, it just needs to be upgraded. They spend $100,000 a year on bottled water for a few hundred people instead of fixing the system. And they are using their situation to try to extort the governments into building a $30 million road for a couple of hundred people.
  14. You're right, it is stupid, that's why Shoal Lake 40 should stop doing it.
  15. It absolutely is not. The BDS movement has absolutely nothing to do with judaism. There is no racial or religious component to it. It is entirely about the actions of the government and the military of the nation of Israel. It's what they DO, not who they are that is at issue.
  16. No. No non-FN community would have refused to do anything about just so that they could keep blaming someone else.
  17. Nothing Greece has done makes any sense, and they do look extremely stupid right now.
  18. Not only that, but if they cheat on their taxes as much as we've seen, it stands to reason that they probably also cheat on their time cards.
  19. Taking up three full seats is crazy, sure. But spreading partway into each of the seat spaces on either side of you is not. That said, in such scenarios, I'd rather be the one standing anyway.
  20. What does "support" mean? From what I've seen, english is far more dominant in your neck of the woods than it is anywhere in Canada.
  21. That's different because you're making decisions based on how you run your business, not on how you treat your customers. You'd have to judge the balance between how many customers do or do not like the guy at a counter. It really doesn't matter why they don't like him -- If you really were going to lose a lot of business, you would try to find a way around it. Ethnic restaurants have to deal with this all the time. The Chinese restaurant can have an anglo/causasian chef in the back, but the wait staff better be at least asian in appearance or their business will suffer. You can't advertise that you won't hire whites, but you can make a decision on where they'll work based on appearances. Also, it would also be time to have a talk with the guy at the counter to find out what kinds of conversations is he having with the customers that they even know what his sexual preferences are.
  22. No C-51 connection, never was one. The only people who think so are the ones who didn't understand C-51 in the first place, and were blatantly misinforming others about it.
  23. One kilohour?
  24. WWWTT should be along any time now to ask if we're done spreadsplaining.
