Greece? Add about 4% to Harper's Numbers
Bryan replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
But, but, but... Proportional Representation is supposed to be a good thing! I can imagine the campaign now. Every time Mulcair speaks about one of this policies (economic or political), both Harper and Trudeau can respond with "yeah, just like Greece!". -

They have already been receiving their benefits in advance, now it's time to pay for them. -
Libertarianism doesn't really fit properly on the left-right spectrum. Some aspects might appeal to conservatives, but others are usually attributed to those on the left -- especially their views on decriminalizing/legalizing drugs and deviant behaviors. In a lot of ways, it always surprises me that Liberatarian parties don't get more traction politically (not just in Canada, but especially in the US), as they really seem to be to be the more logical choice for the widest number of people. Stop taking so much money from the citizens, and stop interfering in their lives. That's practically the least extreme political position you can have. Agreed. CPC is not my first choice, but I vote for them because my first two choices are not ever going to win so much as a seat let alone the government. So I support the one out of the parties that can win whose policies are the least distanced from those of the policies I do want.

Food Allergies Decreased by Early Exposure
Bryan replied to sharkman's topic in Health, Science and Technology
This is just the latest study, I've seen several of them in the past few years that had similar conclusions. The most interesting part of this particular one, is it not only did they do the trials that resulted in a large reduction in the rates of allergies, but they also cross referenced it with studies of populations that do and do not restrict peanuts for children. That last part lines up with something I've seen many allergists say; that 'nut free' schools and daycares probably do more harm than good. -
The real difference is everyone has a different idea of where the centre line is in the political spectrum. Positions that are considered left wing here would be considered centrist if not right wing in many european countries. Conversely, positions that are considered right wing here would be considered as left wing in the US. Mulcair would be called a conservative in Europe, Harper would be a called a socialist in the US.

I think you're just trying to dress up your argument. -
United States, Cuba prepare to reopen embassies I
Bryan replied to WestCoastRunner's topic in The Rest of the World
Exactly what I'm talking about. If you know anything about Sanchez and her group, you know that they have been continuously taking US money to try to destabilize Cuba. Despite that, Cuba has still let her leave the country and return as much as she wants, have done nothing to shut down her dissident blog, nor have the confiscated the proceeds of her ill gotten gains. If anything Cuba is being far more patient with her than we would ever be if someone was doing the same thing in Canada or the US. -

People do it all the time, not a problem. Just don't take money from a foreign country to try to help them overthrow the government, and you'll be fine. We don't let people do that here either. -

One man's profanity is another man's punctuation. -

I love my mom. My mother-in-law on the other hand... Lets just say I've banned her from my house, and I haven't gone over to hers in several years. -
I think lists like this are usually messed up by design. It's click bait. You're supposed to disagree with them so that you'll share the link and have discussions about it. You can tell I'm getting old, the first 5 alternatives that popped into my head turned out to be a lot more than 25 years old!

People restrict their words on most online forums far more than they ever would in any of those situations, or just about any other real conversation -- it's an artificial construct. -

People who haven't been to Cuba can be excused for having a very distorted idea of how things actually work in Cuba. Economically, they are very oppressed. The embargo definitely is crushing the average Cuban's ability to get by financially. There's not much to speak of in terms of luxury items. Even those who do have money don't have much because there's not much there to buy. But basic freedoms? They're doing pretty good by any standard. Free healthcare, free education, basic food and housing heavily subsidized. Free enterprise is a tough route with the customers having no money, but it's certainly allowed. In terms of things that don't cost money, they've got it pretty good as well. In some ways they've got more freedoms than Canadians and Americans do, because the state is not micro-managing regulations on how they can and cannot do every little thing. -

Almost nothing. CBC drops F-bombs in prime-time from time to time. Censoring words is on its way out as a social convention. They're just combinations of letters, and sounds you make with your mouth. The idea that certain ones are forbidden is ridiculously old-fashioned. -
It's quite telling that after all this you still don't even understand the point that was made by that original statement.

Canada hasn't had anything even remotely close to a rightwing government in a lot longer than 20 years.

It's actually very clear: http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/E%2D2.01/page-99.html#docCont The reason the Conservatives are not happy is the group is trying to give the impression that they are affiliated with either the Prime Minister himself, or the Conservative Party. The thing that's not necessarily clear is if that rule applies outside of the writ period. I think Taylor and his group probably had the best intentions, but when the people you're supporting are saying "this we don't need", it sure looks like their enthusiasm might have gotten the better of them. Either way, Taylor is shutting down HarperPAC and returning the money raised: https://twitter.com/stephen_taylor/status/614267829391597568/photo/1 Makes me wonder if the Party had a "what are you doing?" talk with him.

What the league really needs to do is contract. There are already more teams than there are available NHL level players to fill those rosters.

Unions and Left-wing activist groups masquerading as "concerned citizens" have been running these kinds of ads for years. It's funny to see them cry foul now. Makes one wonder if they really thought no one would ever fight back.

That was clearly a joke. Also, Oleg isn't here anymore.

Be more specific. WHO actually admits to being racist?

Her behaviour was reprehensible, and her suspension was long overdue. Who here openly proclaims themselves to be racist?

Dion negotiated the stimulus details of the new budget, and Ignatieff voted for it. -- the timeline of when Dion stepped down (which wasn't until december 2008), is irrelevant to the main point anyway: the opposition in a minority parliament got the spending that they demanded.
