Soldiers of Odin - Good idea or trouble brewing?
Bryan replied to dialamah's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
There's seems to be more hatred coming from you than I see coming from them. Exactly.- 42 replies

The problem with the "war on terror" is that was never the actual objective. Why would anyone be surprised that something that was not the goal didn't happen?

Especially when the traffic is less and less here all the time. If you wanted to design forum rules for the express purpose of turning it into a ghost town, the rules here would be what you would do. On most forums, the best organic discussions happen when things drift in another direction.

If your street isn't one of the ones that need to be patrolled, then you've got nothing to worry about.- 42 replies

Soldiers of Odin - Good idea or trouble brewing?
Bryan replied to dialamah's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
In the abstract, that's not a bad premise at all. That's a strong sense of community that they are expressing. The issue begins when one tries to define what "take back" means. How will they behave in carrying out that objective?- 42 replies

Sons of Odin and Soldiers of Odin are two different organizations. You've got links for the two mixed together as if they were the same thing in the OP.- 42 replies

Apple Corporation is Bad for Technology
Bryan replied to MiddleClassCentrist's topic in Health, Science and Technology
I'm quite happy with my 6 plus. Unless the 7 blows my socks off, I doubt I'll be upgrading. There would have to be a substantial reason beyond "it's new" If it's thinner, I'm definitely not interested (if anything my 6+ is too thin already). I also have far more devices than just my phone that I use the headphones with, so what my phone uses was the least of my worries. Besides all that, bluetooth sound had improved, but it is still not that great. It didn't make sense to me to buy expensive headphones, then have them use an inferior sound quality transmission system. And, since I can easily change my Sennheisers from BT to 3.5mm, I can still use them wherever I want. -
Apple Corporation is Bad for Technology
Bryan replied to MiddleClassCentrist's topic in Health, Science and Technology
In 100 yrs, they were able to make it slightly smaller, and about 50 yrs ago they added a few functional features. In the grand scheme of technology, it's one of the least evolutionary developments that you can get. -
Apple Corporation is Bad for Technology
Bryan replied to MiddleClassCentrist's topic in Health, Science and Technology
They absolutely are doing it to move on from outdated tech. Without any question whatsoever, that is THE reason they want to do it. THE reason they always do it. They very often abandon tech they have patents on in favour of things they have to license from others. Other companies already make lightning port headphones even when Apple doesn't. Besides that, Apple includes the headphones with their phones and music players, so they only make more money from the move if people choose to buy additional Apple branded headphones when they buy the new device (which few people do). -
Apple Corporation is Bad for Technology
Bryan replied to MiddleClassCentrist's topic in Health, Science and Technology
The headphone jack is technology that is over 100 years old. Apple has never been shy about abandoning old tech for something better. Even if it was their own thing they were replacing with something that was open to everyone. There have been a few times where they've done so before people were quite ready for it, but every single time the rest of the consumer electronics industry has followed suit. Do I like the idea? Not really. I've got some nice new Sennheiser Momentum 2 headphones, and I'd like to be able to plug them in to my iPhone. That said, I CAN plug them into my current phone quite easily, and the easiest thing in the world if you don't like a new thing is to just not buy that one. Also, I've done a simple (and easily reversible) DIY bluetooth conversion to the Sennheisers so I COULD use them in any manner I wanted to if it came right down to it. Besides that, I didn't like it when they dropped the floppy drive, SCSI, Optical drives, ADB/PS1 ports, Firewire, spinning hard disks, and a bunch of other things either. I wasn't ready for those changes yet, but Apple was still correct that the next thing was better. -
The CBC's Mark Critch is a D-bag and should be fired.
Bryan replied to Boges's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
No. The blast he got on twitter was well deserved, but that's probably enough -
You really think the percentage of BS is that low?

You don't pay anything. Church based charity and mission work saves us all money.

I've been trying to tell these people the same thing, but many of them insist that it's not so.

This is the thing that CBC supporters don't get: statistically speaking, it has no viewers. It's the Green Party of Canadian broadcasting, in more ways than one. -
Unexpected Consequence of Higher Minimum Wage
Bryan replied to Pateris's topic in Business and Economy
So true. The definition of "poverty" in Canada and the US has crept up so high that it's basically meaningless anymore. Not having a big enough TV does not make you poor. -

There's no shortage of American firms looking to source products and services from Canada. -
Unexpected Consequence of Higher Minimum Wage
Bryan replied to Pateris's topic in Business and Economy
Many people travel, work, buy and sell products and services, etc (including fast food meals), across the border all of the time. The minimum wage is an anchor that affects all wages and prices. The prices I can get for my work in the US are a direct reflection of the local economy in the place where my clients are based. -
Unexpected Consequence of Higher Minimum Wage
Bryan replied to Pateris's topic in Business and Economy
It had a huge bearing. Our goods, services, and people cross the border in both directions every day. The two economies are very closely linked. -
