Poll puts B.C. NDP ahead (July 8/04)
caesar replied to maplesyrup's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Maybe we can elected a woman. We usually seem to vote for the anything but the present party. Maybe we should just all vote the marijuana party.Campbell has tied up all our money until after the Olympics (all money is being spent for Olympic's related items.) After he attempts to buy our votes by throwing out a few goodies; the next government must come in under budget. Guess he knew he wouldn't make it 2 terms. He did sell off most of our assets (technically control of for 75 years or so. By the way; does anyone know if we are still paying for around the clock police protection for him now that he has his driving license back? -
Yeah right!

Sit on the fence. Because you are not an extremeist??? Now Harper is awakening to the problem with his party and why they did not win in the election. He is realizing that he must move his party more to the center if the Conservatives are ever going to get acceptance by a larger number of voters. Things do get done. We support the most important and needed social programs as much as we can afford. Use a little common sense and compassion. Of course each side and even a few in the center can have their nutcases and prejudices but the extremes of right and left can only see one side of any issue.

tee hee ; You are a fine one to talk; you have called me leftist, anti american and now anti Israel. Obviously you cannot comprehend anyone's views that don't reflect your own. You seem to think everyone is either one extreme or the other. There are many of us who can see both sides of the real story. Generally, everything is a mix of rights and wrongs. We are the moderates in or near the center. We do not have to be right or left to any extreme. Geeesh.

I did heavy research and have found that Israel and the USA are not the innocent victims they would have others to believe. I just am well aware that all blame does not lay on one side. Israel has a long list of Human rights abuses and has failed to abide by UN resolutions. The present Israeli government has not been acting only in self defense as they and the USA and even Canada to a great degree would have us believe. That does not make the Palestinian terrorists in the right either. The moderates on both sides need to take control and work towards peace again as Rabin was attempting before being assassinated by his own people. By the way nitwit; I am one of the moderates; I do not like either side of extreme right or left to have control. Moderation is the key and keeps things more balanced and reasonable.

Poll puts B.C. NDP ahead (July 8/04)
caesar replied to maplesyrup's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
The NDP have been well ahead of the Liberals inpopularity in this province for some time. This Campbell government is only popular with the rich and the doctors. Won't be very popular with anyone on those longer waiting lists for medical procedures. Premiums increased, prescriptions co cost for seniors increased dramatically. Hospital union labour at thospitals has been greatly reduced and replaced with low paid contact workers; cuts everywhere in health care except big raises for doctors and Hospital Management positions. Then there are the scandals; too many to list but Campbells arrest; fish farm bailout (fines and rents); raids on the legislature with now 3 aides suspended under suspicion of drug dealing. Hints of organized crime tied to the legislature. -

Not likely, that's okay because we hate the whole bunch. Scandal ridden government makes the federal Liberals look like saints. No money for Health care, schools, or children but lots for anything to do with the Olympics. -
They were destroyed after the Gulf war under the supervison of the UN inspectors. DUH. Do you not read. Don't just read the little snippets taken out of context. Even UN experts concede that they are non-existent. That any connection to al Qaeda is non-existent. To prove that the weapons did exist is easy; You find them. (after all there were large stockpiles according to the USA and THEY knew where they were. To prove that something doe not exist is next to impossible. It would require searching every crack and cranny in Iraq. The USA has done that since the invasion; with no positive results. The probability is that there were no vialbe WMD but it is impossible to prove definitely. You don't commit mass murder and risk your own soldiers on a weak maybe. Iraq was still willing to cooperate with the UN inspectors. That process should have continued. That invasion without justification has only made the middle east population more convinced that the USA is prejudiced against their people. That in the eyes of the American government Israel can do no wrong and the Muslim nations can do no right. Israel was in contempt of 7x more UN resolutions than was Iraq. This number would be even greater if the USA did not always veto any resolutions against Israel. Israel has not always done the right thing under Sharon.

That's right. Canada is a small country now. An independent Alberta would be a tiny "country" with only one product. It would be insignificant. Putting all its eggs in one basket. All the Canadian companies that now have their headquarters in Alberta would be leaving. Canada is now still small but we have a good international reputation and a good diversifed selection of products to sell. What potential does Alberta have with its cold climate? You don't even have access to a port. Don't count on BC joining you. Our provincial government is not one we can trust. One corrupt Premier after the other. Campbell is the worst so far and should be on his way out next year. Campbell's right winged Liberals did not get the strong support in the last election for any of their platforms. In BC we only vote out the previous party. The NDP appear to be heading towards winning the next election. In fact many of us; cannot wait.

Watch what you wish for; you just might get it. We would be small nothing countries with absolutely no voice in world affairs. dumb dumb dumb

New Mad Cow case in USA possible
caesar replied to caesar's topic in Canada / United States Relations
That is one of Japan's bei beefs and why they will not reopen their market to North American beef. The Japanese believe that the feeding of calves with blood products is where their cases originate. It does make sense. The majority of diagnosed cows are old dairy cows. Beef cows would probably be allowed to suckle their calves as their milk is not used for market. Calves from dairy cows are more likely to be fed with blood products. I agree; cut out all meat products being fed to herbiverous animals. -
Please; Albertan separatists; call yourself Albertan separatists not the West. We in BC are the west and we do not want to separate. Canada as a country is small enough in numbers. We need to stick together to enable us to negotiate fair trade deals. We already get the short end of the stick as we are dismissed as small potatoes and not as important as other countries (USA mainly) as a trading partner.

Being against the illegal and unnecessary invasion of Iraq; does not make one a pacifist. Wars may be necessary to defend your country but that was not the case here. The invasion of Iraq has done nothing to help solve the terrorism problem. It has, in fact, done the opposite. Bush left the terrorists in Afghanistan and Pakistan for the easy picking of Iraq. The invasion of a Muslim/Arab country that WAS STILL cooperating with the UN; angered many Muslims and Arabs which will supply the terrorist with new recruits. The original terrorist including Osama bin Laden have been scattered and allowed to flourish. Whatever, Bush's motive for this invasion; be it the oil, the strategic area for a military base (USA) or revenge for daddy; it has not done anything to make us safer in North America. It has made distrust and dislike for the USA to flourish. Thousand of Iraqi citizens and hundreds of American young soldiers died; many many more of both have serious maiming and injuries. All for a LIE; Iraq was no threat. Iraq had no WMD. Even Harper has tried to jump on the :we shouldn't join the American in the Iraq invasion) bandwagon but we pushed him off. Too late; His previous statements are on video tape,

I am not condonig it. I just think from the judges statements that there is more to the story than we have read. When children are raised in an abusive atmosphere; it takes time for them to find their voice and be able to release their anger as these boys have done. Some children are fine but some children with this syndrome never do thrive. Chretien has an adopted son that seems to alkways have serious problems despite a loving supportive home. I have heard of others that are very dangerous at an extemely young age. I am not even saying this is the case here. There are hints that this was not a consistent thing. They did attend school. I just think we need more answers. Has this judge handed out this type of lenient judgement previously. I suspect newspapers now. They are very editorial and intent on showing a one sided story too often. I now doubt anything that doesn't make complete sense. I have learned that what you read is not usually the whole picture. Where can we get more of the true picture. The boys however are victims both ways; I am not blaming them if they do have these problems. I would want them to get help not loose to create trouble if they are troubled. I just have this suspicion that not all is how it seems. Premonitions of mine are often found to be true. I just don't think it is as cut and dry as the news clips suggest.

Montgomery; He probably subscribes to the National Post; the most right winged garbage I have ever read. Why do we no longer get straight news; now it is all biased (Can West) full of editorials and opinions. Keep their opinions; I want the facts; all the facts; not just what promotes their viewpoints; be it right or left. I am quite capable of forming my own opinion; but we need facts not opinions. Sometimes it is not what they tell us; it is what they don't tell us. I agree Montogomery; those are all good cridible sources that you listed.

Heaven forbid a government with a social conscience that wants to help our disadvantaged citizens. Despite their more humane approach to the disadvantages the projected spending of the Liberals was half of that proposed by the Conservatives. I suppose that you consider this money that the Conservatives wanted to spend on an aggresive military to assist the Americans in their world domination is justified. Why is it okay to spend money we don't have on an aggressive military but corrupt if money is used for helping everyone to have good social programs; especially our Health Care. The Liberals are not the first party to have ever been caught or suspected of misuse of taxpayer's money. My goodness; buying Canadian flags to hand out to citizens to promote national pride is now a disgrace? Guess, it would have been okay to you if they bought American flags to hand out.

I never heard of any sexual humilitiion going on.. There would be no excuses for that. Caging; to protect themselves (parents) from being attacked or even murdered while the parents sleep. Sames as we do to criminals ourselves. Have you never heard of jails? I have heard many stories of children born with fetal alcohol syndrome as young as 4 that had parents terrified to sleep. Many children born with fetal alcohol syndrome have serious problems. These children were, also, products of a mother on drugs that could cause them even more problems. I don't know if they do have serious problems ; I only suspect, that this could be the case from some of the judges comments.

UNB in doghouse insisting QC guide dog learn Eng
caesar replied to maplesyrup's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Unbelieveable. The man should have a good court case if they persist. I don't think I would want to send my children there. -
I think that I would like to hear more about the case before passing judgement. These boys were products of alcoholic and drug taken parents. This often produces children that are very unruly and hard to handle. Some are down right dangerous at a very young age. The comments from the boys were very aggressive and judgemental and very angry. Children that have been abused and intimidated all their lives are generally reluctant to speak out. It takes time for them to gain confidence and trust to speak out. Did these adoptive parents have anywhere to turn for help. Did mental health authorities give them help. Why didn't any of the relatives step in and take the kids earlier? There are many questions that we really do not have the answers to in the articles in the news. I don't like abuse but the judge hints of this not being done for sadistic reasons; so perhaps they were doing the only thing they could do to protect themselves or to prevent these boys from causing trouble in the community? I don't know the answers but have we been given the whole story?

Charter of Rights & Notwithstanding Clause
caesar replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I would bet that you would be the first one to scream for your "rights" if anyone abused them. Anyone against the Charter of Rights is a really unbelieveable. What would you prefer mayhem? -
Too few right wingers for the right to unite
caesar replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Why would anyone bother anymore with someone so out of control? He is beyond hope of understanding compassion or truth. -
Hopefully, Kerry will understand our frustration and disgust with Bush's arrogant attitude. Canadians make Canadian decisions; we don't need to do whatever the American government wants. Any American who cannot respect our right as Canadians to make our own decisions can go to ....! If the price of American friendship means that we give up our right to make our own decisions without their input; then they are not friends; they are bullies. I have faith that Kerry when elected will be much more rational than was Bush. Canada's stand has been proven to be right; thankfully, we were not involved with the invasion of Iraq which has only added fuel to the fire in regards to terrorism. Nor are Canadians complicit in the illegal holding of prisoners nor for their illegal torture.

People need roots; especially when they have children to educate so they will be able to find employment in the future. EI is not a handout from the government; it is a insurance that we all pay premiums for. It is not that easy to collect EI these days. That encourages employers not to give out raises as you are not eligible for EI even if you quit for good reason.EI doesn't pay enough to live on; it just enables one to get by until they find employment. Why shouldn't one sit at his computer when on EI. It is one of the best tools for seeking employment.

That is the Judge"s decision not the government. Don't blame the government for everything that you don't agree with.
