UCP leadership Alberta new premier
ironstone replied to Jack9000's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I can't argue that Alberta Conservatives weren't getting complacent but any province that goes full-on NDP is going to suffer. We learned that the hard way here in Ontario with Bob Rae. -
I am unequivocally against fascism. That would mean I am against mobs just like Antifa which happen to behave exactly like fascists. Your assertion that the Antifa/BLM riots were mostly peaceful is pretty misleading when you consider the enormous amount of damages they they caused all over the country. BLM riot damages 'worst in history' totalling over $2 BILLION | The Post Millennial | thepostmillennial.com BLM's 'Mostly Peaceful' Riots Cost 1000x More in Damage Than Jan. 6 Capitol Unrest (westernjournal.com) I condemn the violence on Jan 6, but in that case most of them were actually acting peacefully. The one's that did riot have to pay the price. I still have yet to see any clip of Trump actually telling people to engage in violence. Telling the crowd to "throw the bum out" at one of his rallies is not an incitement to violence. This is more in the way of inciting violence:

I guess I can interpret your answer as NO. You do not have a problem with violence as long as it's perpetrated by the left. What a stark contrast with conservative minded people. We overwhelmingly condemn the use of violence as a means to an end, whether it's the right or left. Your side practically encourages it.

I thought the Alberta NDP experiment was a disaster to put it mildly. Anything is possible but hopefully Albertans will never make the same mistake twice and put in the socialists again. -
It certainly helps when you have the DOJ totally on your side. It's not just about retractions to obviously false stories, it's about the length of time that the false story is out there before the public and the time that a retraction is printed. It can be weeks, months or even years as we've seen with the Russia collusion hoax. I don't read the Washington Post, but I would wager that in those instances where they did print retractions regarding negative Trump/Republican stories, they would not be on the front page. Zero evidence those stories were not hoaxes? The Russia collusion story was perhaps the biggest falsehood out there and it was out there for years. Other more balanced news outlets saw through this preposterous story almost immediately while most of the MSM continued to push it on the public. Apart from pushing false stories and then belatedly printing retractions that are likely not going to be on the front page, there is the fact that most of the left leaning news outlets take the opposite approach to stories that can be considered harmful to Democrats. The Hunter laptop story is the most blatant example. This was a story that was actively suppressed not only by major newspapers but by cable news and big tech. It was suppressed because it would have been harmful to Democrats. Turns out the story was true. Crime is another glaring example. Whites committing crimes against blacks are at the top of the news, blacks committing crimes against whites or Asians does not get mentioned. Rising crime in Democrat cities? Move along, nothing to see here. No wonder people have a low opinion of most so-called journalists.

I think that's clearly not true. Wapo is hardly a gold standard publication. Does anybody read Time magazine anymore? Wapo does in fact publish material they must know is false, and they do it in order to further their agenda which is helping the Democrats. Washington Post retracts some stories based on Steele dossier (nypost.com) Washington Post Retractions | Project Veritas Washington Post runs correction admitting it 'misquoted' Trump (nypost.com) I don't think there are too many editors at the Wapo that ask questions such as," has this potentially, but highly improbable story that will be damaging to Trump/Republicans been in any way verified?" The Washington Post is just one of the many unreliable and very left leaning news sources out there.

It's not a gamble, it's a sure thing. Joe Biden Sold Reserve Oil To Chinese Gas Giant Tied To Hunter Biden (thefederalist.com) Hunter had his very own Chinese spy, the honey trap thing. Hunter Biden's close relationship with Chinese-American secretary revealed | Daily Mail Online Burisma has had dealings with Hunter for some time. Hunter's salary is clearly dependent on how high up his daddy was in the political ladder. Not a coincidence. https://nypost.com/2021/05/26/hunter-bidens-ukraine-salary-was-cut-after-joe-biden-left-office/

I think it's safe to say that Hunter has broken a few laws in his time. Joe has lied to Americans when he claimed that he knows nothing of Hunter's business dealings. Joe Biden Told Hunter He Was in the 'Clear' after Shady Business Deals - Headline USA Law Professor: It's Clear 'Hunter Biden Was Selling Access and Influence' and Joe Was Aware (westernjournal.com) Answer this: Why would any foreign government pay huge sums of money to someone like Hunter Biden given his long history of drug abuse? What are his skills? If it's not to gain access to the President, then why on earth would they pay him?

I'm in the failed experiment side. I don't buy into the Scandanavian angle that is always pushed by the leftists either. Those countries are capitalist that happen to have very generous social programs. It goes by different names but at the end of the day it has never worked out for the people. Now it's a disgusting cocktail of socialism/communism/woke ideology that is poisoning western society.

Is it your contention that everything stated in that article is false? We really don't hear too much about other Biden family members and their generous silver platter business deals. Hunter is the exception but it's primarily FOX News and of course the rest of the MSM cover for him. I suppose that's likely because Hunter is not discreet about his lifestyle and business dealings and the other family members don't appear to be junkies. House Democrats Block Investigation of Hunter Biden’s Business Deals (dailysignal.com) Not for a second would I suggest that only members of one party engage in this type of activity, it likely happens all too often on both sides of the aisle and we only see the tip of the iceberg. They should all be under scrutiny and justice should be applied equally if warranted. The Democrats seem to be pretty well insulated from any kind of real scrutiny.

It's certainly fair game to talk about Trump's character, but why isn't it equally fair to talk about Biden's? Trump was wealthy because he was born into it but he did also build quite an impressive real estate empire. Joe Biden is also wealthy. Not to the extent Trump is, but quite wealthy by any standard. Biden's wealth does not come from his salary from 50 years in politics, it comes from pay-to-play. If we are to judge Trump vs Biden, I would just look at the state of the US during each one's first term. Not much of a comparison, is it? Who in their right mind would be happy with the job Biden has done so far? Is it better that the stock markets are weak? Is it better that the southern border is wide open? Is it better that crime has risen (mainly in Democratic run cities) drastically? How about Biden's disastrous foreign policy? No other world leader respects Biden. Even in the White House, nobody takes him seriously. The above clip is pathetic, and sad.

The Folly of Ignoring Climate Change
ironstone replied to Rebound's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Can I get you to admit the practice of buying carbon offsets is something much easier for wealthy people to do? I would wager that when Trudeau jets all over Canada and the world to engage in useless photo ops his purchase of carbon offsets wouldn't come close to the cost if he was paying it in the form of a carbon tax.
