Pot should not be taxed...still have the regular sales tax but that's it. Keeping drugs illegal leads to much crime. We have wittingly created a multi billion dollar industry for gangs. If a gang has a dispute they turn to violence to solve their problems because they can't legally solve their problem. If we really want to hurt gangs and lower street violence we should bankrupt them. There is also no evidence to support the argument that drug use will increase if it is legalized. Would you do heroin if it was legal tomorrow? There won't be a rise in theft to support habits. Now we discourage some people from wanting or seeking help for there addictions because drugs are so frowned upon by society. If society was more open to drugs and accepted drug users as part of our society and not just rejects, more people with addiction would be more open and willing to receive help with their addiction. Portugal legalized many drugs in 2001 Coercion doesn't work to lower use, education on the dangers of drugs will.

Collapse of the US economy

I think the blame can go all the way back to 1913 when the Federal Reserve Act was passed. -
Auto-Bailed Out Workers, Smoking & Drinking

Getting drunk and high during work, I never thought of doing that. I know what I'm doing at work tomorrow. -
Learn something new every day. Na, I'm kind of a hypocrite or not a traditional or a complete libertarian. I like the idea of socialized health care. Socialism and libertarianism are polar opposites, I know, I guess I'm more in the middle.
-
I got a better idea then building prisons to house more inmates, let's legalize all drugs.
-
Truthfully I don't understand the reference. I guess I really am ignorant to what is going on their, I have never been their. Either way I believe more in diplomacy then wars. Personally I don't like the size of some of these billion dollar corporations that hold oligopolies over many sectors of society. They hold too much power and influence over our society. It doesn't make it right. I consider me to be more of a libertarian, that being said I do believe in universal health care.

Lowering interest rates is what creates inflation. Bernake is trying to fight off deflation, this is why interest rates are so low already. He's not an isolationist, he just believes in small or limited government.

I don't know if western culture is naturally being adopted, I think it is more on the side of being forced upon them. Mussolini said fascism is when corporate and political interests converge. In my opinion corporate interests do control or have a great influence over government. They do have freedoms but the government is slowly taking them away in order to 'protect' its citizens from terrorism and as Ron Paul says, "Don’t we know if we sacrifice liberty for security we lose both, that’s what is happening in this country today". Well I disagree with you saying the problem is Islam but lets say you are right. What is your solution? eradicate all the evil people in the world with guns and bombs? That is why he wants to end the wars, the CIA, the departments along with other government programs. He wants to cut spending and shrink government.

More parties don't have to become involved. Sadly more parties will probably get involved. Gerald Celente, the number one trends researcher in the world is predicting World War 3 to emerge from these wars. I don't believe that Islam poses a threat. It kind of reminds me of Hitler saying the Jews posed a threat. The only reason that these so called extremist would want to attack America or any other NATO contry is because of those countries foreign policies of present and passed. Soon to be a failed welfare/warfare state. Truthfully I think of America as one of the most fascist countries in the world. One day we must come to see that peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but that it is a means by which we arrive at that goal. We must pursue peaceful ends through peaceful means. -MLK But I do understand what you are saying. Thomas Jefferson learned that lesson when the British invaded Virginia.
-
You say it could of been possibly been avoided if they originally followed a non-interventionist policy, I agree. Then you say war is now necessary, I don't agree their. I think continuing to intervene will only escalate the problem. Truthfully I don't think Islam is the problem. I think this threat is being over hyped like every other threat, the swine flu, the war on terror, the war on drugs. All they want to do is gain public support for more war. "War is a terrible chisel for carving out tomorrow" - Martin Luther King Jr. If peace is the objective, we won't obtain it threw war.

Fed makes windfall off economic revival programs
maple_leafs182 replied to Bugs's topic in Business and Economy
The US debt is sitting around 13.5 trillion, 1.4 trillion this year alone, 400 billion this year on interest. Bernake isn't worried about inflation, he is worried about deflation. All the bad debt, the defaults, they have shrunk the overall money supply. Bernake is trying to flood the market with new debt and new money all together to fight deflation. Deflation is what caused the Great Depression, Bernake doesn't want a repeat of that. -
Why do you constantly call him a lunatic. You should be attacking his ideas not his person. What is so crazy about wanting to end the war on terrorism, the war on drugs and shrink government. Who do you consider to be a noble candidate for president.
-
If he got elected? I think he would push towards those changes, in the end it would be up to congress. I don't think the powers that be want Ron Paul to get elected. Ron Paul would of let all the too big too fails fail, he wants to end the Federals Reserves monopoly, he doesn't have support from big banks or big corporations. What values of his do you disagree with. Personally I would love to see a Ron Paul as President and Jesse Ventura as Vise President.
-
Ron Paul would end all the wars and bring home all the troops from the hundreds of American military bases around the world. He would end The CIA, the Federal Reserve and all of the departments(Homeland Security, Education, etc...). Ron Paul would abolish the income tax, he stated in an interview on Jay Leno that the country would have the same revenue as it did in 2000 if the income tax was eliminated today. Ron Paul would end the war on drugs and leave drug laws up to the States. He would also decriminalize prostitution at the federal level. The whole tea party movement started as a result of his 2008 campaign for GOP presidential nominee. Doug Wead, a Presidential historian, former special assistant to George H. W. Bush stated "Thomas Jefferson does live, he is Ron Paul". He does believe in the gold standard, he hates paper money because of the inflation and deflation that is associated with it. All paper money is, is debt created out of thin air. He also doesn't like how the Federal Reserve manipulates markets and keeps certain information secret from congress. Great speeches by Ron Paul

Sounds like a good read. I just started University so I won't have time to read 'em right now. But The Blank Slate sounds interesting, I will try to remember to read it in the future. Okay you're right. I don't think it was on the scale it is now with fractional reserve banking. The only way mega corporations can exist is threw fractional reserve banking. If the big banks didn't exist, big corporations wouldn't exist either. CEO's at least in america, make an average of 311:1 ratio over the average employee. Many corporations have come to own oligopolies over society. I've been reading up on Thomas Jefferson and his views on money. From what I have come to believe, he believed in the gold standard and opposed paper money/debt. He believed that the only time paper money should be issued is by the government in times of war when money was needed, to be payed back with or without interest. He didn't understand how private banks could created something from nothing. I agree, I don't think banks should be able to create money out of nothing. I think money needs to be asset backed, the problem is trying to find an asset that can back a currency that cannot be controlled. Some random quotes by Jefferson "Our public credit is good, but the abundance of paper has produced a spirit of gambling in the funds, which has laid up our ships at the wharves as too slow instruments of profit, and has even disarmed the hand of the tailor of his needle and thimble. They say the evil will cure itself. I wish it may; but I have rarely seen a gamester cured, even by the disasters of his vocation." "A spirit... of gambling in our public paper has seized on too many of our citizens, and we fear it will check our commerce, arts, manufactures, and agriculture, unless stopped." "I sincerely believe... that banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies, and that the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity under the name of funding is but swindling futurity on a large scale." Remember me speaking of a Resource Based Economy. Here is a 1974 Larry King interview with Jacque Fresco, the man who created the concept of a resource based economy. A very good watch.

Why would I want people to not save money or amass property, I never said that. When I say rich I mean the multi millionaires or billionaires of society. They do not need nor deserve that much wealth. Wealth doesn't disappear it just trades hands, them hoarding that wealth deprives us from the obtaining that wealth. The only reason I think they were able to obtain that much wealth is threw the fractional reserve banking system that we use. http://laws.justice.gc.ca/eng/B-2/page-4.html#anchorbo-ga:s_16 Section 16. Before a person starts to act as a director, an officer or an employee of the Bank, he or she shall take an oath, or make a solemn affirmation, of fidelity and secrecy, in the form set out in the schedule, before a commissioner for taking affidavits. the schedule OATH OR SOLEMN AFFIRMATION OF OFFICE I, ..............., do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully and to the best of my judgment and ability perform the duties that relate to any office or position in the Bank held by me. I also solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will not communicate or allow to be communicated, to any person not entitled to it, any confidential information that relates to the business or affairs of the Bank that I may learn in the course of performing those duties; use any such information for any purpose other than to perform those duties; or allow any person to inspect or have access to any books and records that belong to or that are in the possession of the Bank and that relate to the business or affairs of the Bank, unless the person is legally entitled to inspect them or to have access to them. There is some secrecy. In America Ron Paul has tried but failed to get a simple audit of the Federal Reserve. Agreed Those are two polar opposites. I am somewhat an anarchist, I don't believe the governments role should be what it is now, I believe in smaller government. I wouldn't say I am a complete anarchist, I do believe there is a role for government, to protect liberties and ensure equality. This may be true but as long as they enjoy what they are doing, isn't that all that matters. Our behavior is greatly influenced by our environment, we need to change our environment if we wish to change our behavior. I think monetary policy would be a good place to start.

To me it sounds like he has more of a pantheist view. -
Well lets just say I fundamentally disagree with you. I believe in personal liberties as appose to the government trying to force people to be a 'perfect' citizens by law. Saying everyone would become poor and on drugs has no merit, this wouldn't happen. The only way to try and prevent drug abuse is threw education, not threw prohibition. Half of the worlds wealth is owned by 2% of the population, the wealth is being hoarded. I have come to believe that this is only possible threw fractional reserve banking. We need to end fractional reserve banking and get rid of the secrecy surrounding monetary policies. Our society is a product of the rules we follow. Right now the rich get richer because that is how the game is set up, we need to change the rules if we want a more fair/equal playing field. I don't want a dictatorship. They control the major corporations of the world, they have far too much power and influence over society. I think having super corporation controlling sectors of our society in a way is a form of dictatorship. I don't think the CEO's are evil people though some probably are, I just don't like a small percentage of the population controlling the world. There is the porn industry, people already do want to have sex for money. I'm sure there are prostitutes who enjoy what they do. We still have net neutrality. I don't understand why we don't change. That, it will take an industry away from gangs and I think it is personal liberty issue. People should be allowed to have sex with whoever they want for money if they wish.
-
I still don't understand this world. Why do we let most of the worlds wealth be horded by a small percent of the population. Why do we care more about celebrities then helping each other. Nothing about how we live right now makes sense to me but apparently it is all justifiable. We need a massive change in values. We need to legalize things like prostitution and drugs, we have to stop labeling people who enjoy those things as bad people and accept them into society. Just a random rant..
-
Hey, gun regulation is suppose to make our streets safer. That's the justification or reason we have it right? Lets legalize drugs and prostitution, lets take money away from the gangs. I think this would make our streets safer. Instead of trying to disarm the 'bad' people, lets bankrupt them.
-
I think you're right, usury has to go. The entire banking, monetary and by extension economic systems need to change. I don't think people understand how urgent this really is. We wonder why poverty never ends yet we don't ever think that maybe the system we live under, the rules, the laws, the regulations, that they could be directly creating the poverty.
-
We need to get rid of this system sooner then later. There is no equality in this system, threw it big corporations have sprung up and come to dominate nearly every aspect of our society. As George Carlin called them, the 'owners', they manipulate society to help benefit them at the expense of the rest. I don't believe they have an evil intent, they are just playing the game. Democracy suffers under this system, the great majority of people on this planet suffer under this system yet many people claim what we have now is prosperity because we have paper thin televisions. The only things prospering is the arms industry, debt and poverty. I still think a monetary based economy is a terrible system but everyone seems to loves it. If we choose to continue to use it, lets at least create a system that doesn't consolidate wealth and power. I suggest as a start the Bank of Canada buys back all the privately owned national debt then we cancel the national debt. We would then need to implement some sort of debt free currency, not have a currency derived from debt.
-
I agree, I think it has been growing thanks to the internet, I hope we never lose net neutrality. I think it is the fractional reserve system that is the problem. The ability to create money out of nothing. Private banks hold the power of expanding and contracting the money supply. They control inflation and deflation, they create the bubbles. This whole economic slump is a result of them manipulating the economy. I think the government needs to be in control of the issuance of currency as appose to private banks. I don't believe that is a true solution to the problem of pollution. It seems like a money making scheme to me.

I don't care if you don't want to call it a conspiracy or what you wish to label it or not label it. This game we play called society is rigged, the tables are turned and we are the ones being taken advantage of on a daily basis and nobody does seem to notice. The information is out there if you wish to find it but in reality most peoples truths come from the T.V.
