Equality? No such damned thing!
maple_leafs182 replied to Oleg Bach's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
No I am not, I am an anarchist, I would never advocate for Big Brother. I don't think governments are relevant anymore, I don't think money is relevant anymore. All I am suggesting is we use technology to solve the problems that are common to all of man. We all need food, we all need water, we all need a house or a home, these are problems common to all of man. They should be our priority right now. What I am advocating is a different way of thinking in order to solve the problems that are common to all of us. Example: Say you are in a plane and it is making a crash landing into the middle of the North Atlantic, a life preserver or raft isn't going to do much to save your life in the cold waters. Why not make the cab of the plane detachable from the rest of the plane, make it durable enough to withstand a collision into the ocean, in the cab there would be all the food and necessities for the people, they can later be towed to safety. -
Equality? No such damned thing!

Nope, I think what people consider morally wrong and morally right is relative. I think allowing mass starvation and blind air strikes to occur is morally wrong but currently this society allows it, heck it is profitable to do so. Yes, and you point? Yes, I know we use science but we don't utilize it very well, we use the latest and greatest sciences and technologies to build weapons of war and destruction instead of using it to build systems that can benefit all of humanity. I am open to different ideas or systems, I see what this current system produces and I see a lot of fundamental flaws, this is why I do not support it. -

Never watched Star Trek before. Give me an example of what you consider to be a moral problem. I've never read I Robot, I've seen the movie I robot, I'll assume the movie is based on the book. I don't mean walking talking robots, but machines. Look at an automobile plant, it is almost completely automated, there is no reasons why we can't have farms that are completely automated to produce an abundance of food for all of us. Look what our system produces, war, poverty, pollution, recessions/depression, degradation of land and depletion of resources, this current social or economic system is insane, it isn't sustainable. The problem is, I think there needs to be a total collapse of the current system before people start to question its validity. -

I've read 1984. We don't need politicians, they don't solve problems. We should be using the scientific method while using the latest and greatest technologies to arrive at possible solutions to our problems. We don't need the technology to monitor humans, just for production, transportation, along those lines. -

Oleg, it seems like you see us all as being separate when in reality we are all one living, breathing organism. Liberal democracy is a failure, we look to politicians to solve our problems, the problems that face us aren't political, they are technical. Technology is the answer to almost all of our problems, technology should be at the forefront of society, not politicians. We can create abundance of food and houses, we could clean the oceans, lakes, rivers and air, we could end our dependence on fossil fuels for transportation, we could use technology to benefit all of mankind. I see the biggest problem of society is the monetary based economy, it creates inequality, it divides us by creating classes, it encourages scarcity for scarcity is profitable. Equality is a myth in our current monetary based economy. -

I am not a fan of this left right paradigm, I think we need to measure it from top to bottom too. Top being fascist and bottom being anarchist. I am 21 and I do consider myself to be socialist but I am more of a libertarian socialist. Not all socialist believe in raising taxes and bigger government. I've been looking into ecosocialism which looks to use technology to relieve humans of labour while respecting the environment. Imagine a society where you only had to work 3 or 4 days a week instead of 5. -
Prop. 19 in California goes down
maple_leafs182 replied to Pliny's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Well I don't know the people who you are talking about but it seems like they are doing that whether drugs are legal or illegal. Obviously having it illegal doesn't stop any problems and throwing people in jail or even just fining them is a very poor strategy for treating addictions. We need to bring drugs into the community...that sounded bad, we need to accept drug users as members of society, we demonize them now, we scare many away from seeking help simply because we frown upon and look at drug users as second class citizens. Not to mention keeping drugs illegal leads to a multi billion dollar black market for gangs, if we want to begin to make the streets safer we have to attack gangs where it hurts, their wallets. -
These wars are destabilizing Afghanistan. We are increasing the risk of terrorist attacks by occupying this nation. When you kill peoples family and friends, people tend to get pissed off at you. This war was lost the day it began. Teaching people how to kill will only create more problems. Why don't we spend the money building schools, feeding and clothing the poor. Lets do something that would actually benefit people.

Prop. 19 in California goes down
maple_leafs182 replied to Pliny's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Well if you look at places like Portugal where they have legalized many drugs, drug use has gone down. If you look at places like the Netherlands where marijuana is decriminalized, there is less use there then any of its neighboring countries. There is no evidence that supports the argument that keeping drugs illegal lowers use. Keeping drugs illegal may deter some people but it raises use in other places. For instance, drug dealers don't I.D. children, there has been studies that suggest it is easier for kids to get weed then alcohol. The best way to lower use is to educate people on the dangers of use, if they still wish to use they should be allowed to. Nobody should be able to tell you what you can and can't do with your body. Life is yours, you live it your way. -

I would say the Bank of International Settlement is more of the worlds central bank. It doesn't make loans but it does dictate policies to many central banks. -
Islamist groups seek ‘parallel society’ in Canada
maple_leafs182 replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'm sick of people always demonizing Islam. Please tell me what our values are. As I see it we think it is okay to go into other countries and kill innocent people, we think it is okay to run sweatshops in other countries, we think it is okay for mass starvation to continue and we really don't give a fuck about the planet/environment. All western society cares about is money, we bend over backwards for the banks for they are the money masters. Banks are the pilers of our economy and our society, we must do all we can please them for if they fall, we all fall. -

Because they made the U.S. dollar the currency that oil is bought and sold in. -
I don't watch Jersey Shore either. Just give it a shot, try the 1st ten minutes and if you like it then continue to watch.
-
Then I think you are a little quick to judge. That is a trailer for a movie that hasn't been released yet.
-
Watch the movies. This isn't some documentary made by Alex Jones. It isn't so much a movie about exposing the new world order but a movie that looks at a possible alternative approach to running a sustainable society. I think you would like it. Or atleast watch the 2nd one.
-
Have you watched any of the movies? GostHacked, have you seen the second one?

Zeitgeist 3 trailer, its coming out in January, looks like it will be good.

maple_leafs182 replied to Pliny's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
legalize all drugs. Its a matter of personal liberty more then anything. There is no good reason why any drug should be illegal or at least I haven't heard one. I would rather take my chances with the dangers of the world then have liberties taken away from me on the grounds that it will make me safe, which is not true to begin with. -

I think it did quite well. They are already trying to get the prop on the ballet for the election in 2012. I think it will pass then.
