  1. No television in this house. Where is the best place on the web for election coverage?
  2. Um, any decent machinist can build a gun in an afternoon. This site - http://www.thehomegunsmith.com/ - has plans available for building your very own 9mm submachine gun using "off the shelf British Standard Pipe fittings and hardware products". Many of the illegal guns on the street - eg. Saturday Night Specials - are made by clandestine factories. In fact, these are actually more dangerous than legal guns because of their tendencies to explode and/or discharge unintentionally.
  3. http://republicofnh.org/platform.html - Free trade with all! - No more federal income tax: keep all of the money you earn! - No more IRS! - No more Drug War! - No More PATRIOT Act! ... To heck with Canada, if the 'Republic of New Hampshire' comes about, we should all join them!
  4. Do you think there was a strategy to calling the vote for the Tuesday following Thanksgiving? Will the voters 'tune out' while doing the family feasting, or will there be record numbers of domestic disturbances? If they tune out, will they even bother to vote on Tuesday, or will there be too many turkey hangovers?
  5. I guess you weren't joking. I'm running as fast as I can.
  6. ...and the problem?
  7. Sure, it seems obvious - France is one of our closest allies, after all. What if Harper had dual American citizenship?
  8. Dual citizenship in a leader of the country could pose a problem though. Although extremely unlikely, what would happen if France were to declare war on Canada?
  9. I can never tell if you guys are joking or not?
  10. How gullible are you people? The Kumari does not "live a life in isolation" and does not "spend a night alone in a room among the heads of ritually slaughtered goats". Do you believe just anything you read on the interweb? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kumari#Life_of_the_Royal_Kumari They have servants, they have playmates, they are allowed to go to school and they receive a lifetime pension of "around four times the average income". http://www.vedicbooks.net/from-goddess-to-...ari-p-1539.html "Reading this book is like traveling into the realms of very loving, genuine and thrilling experience of a living goddess. This book is a bridge that links the world of innocence with the world of experience. It also shows a unique and rare combination of innocence and power as reflected through the narratives of Rashmila Shakya as told to Scott Berry."
  11. Well said! (I wanted to snip this quote so it would be shorter, but couldn't decide what to snip...)
  12. Actually, I see nothing in this thread about the OECD. Regardless, did they say 'less competitive' in comparison to? It seems the IMF, RBC, Scotiabank etc. all say that we are more than competitive when compared to the rest of the G7...
  13. Less competitive? Compared to who? (Are you purposely being obtuse, or do you just not get it?)
  14. In the four years since she retired, she has blown $5 million? Not sure if I buy this story...
  15. http://www.nationalcitizens.ca/ says "We are Canada’s largest non-partisan organization that stands for the defence and promotion of free enterprise, free speech and government that is accountable to its taxpayers". Pretty scary stuff.
  16. Or... Pick the party that is closest to your 'ideal'. Join the party - work from within to raise your preferred issues, and perhaps actually make a difference. Perhaps it's a novel concept, but it's likely more effective in the long run than whining about how you're never understood and someday the system will be fair...
  17. Huh? Either he was wrong - in which case you vote against him, or he was right. Pretty simple.
  18. Although that sounds totally off the wall, it does have some merit. For hundreds (thousands?) of years, artists have been supported by 'patrons'. That is, rich people who can afford it - and want to. Why should government do it? Isn't it enough that we are expected to eliminate poverty, solve all drug problems, and provide everyone with a living wage? If your 'art' is good enough, someone will pay for it. Period.
  19. I'm not sure I understand... - the Listeria outbreak is totally due to the fact that government supposedly relaxed the inspections and regulations - the Watertown issue was totally due to the fact that government supposedly relaxed the inspections and regulations - the government does not provide enough inspections and regulations for GM foods - there are lots of "dangerous" drugs (Aspartame etc.) which are foisted on an unsuspecting public in spite of existing rules and regulations but it's perfectly fine for 'natural' healers to recommend/sell/promote anything they want? "Deadly nightshade' is a natural plant...it grows all over the place (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadly_nightshade)
  20. I haven't read this whole thread yet but chiming in anyway. Yes, it's always been that way. Yes - if the Governor-General agrees.
  21. Why should he make any concessions? He managed just fine with a minority government for a near-record length of time. If the opposition is that ineffective, it's because that is the will of the people. (in case you don't get it - the Liberals could have pulled the plug at any time, assuming they thought they had a mandate to do so - obviously they did not.)
  22. Huh? Government should pass laws to protect people from their own stupidity? The banking system in Canada is already regulated - let's not get carried away. I would guess that you also think that prohibition of handguns will eliminate killing. And prohibition of drugs will solve all of society's problems. And government daycare will result in a trained-seal electorate that says yes to everything you say...oops - did I reveal your secret agenda? Seriously, why do you think that the government has to protect people from themselves? I don't get it.
  23. Um, why are the Liberals short of cash? Simply, nobody wants to give them any - what does that say?
  24. Public tender - what's the problem? These follow stringent rules and guidelines that were specifically developed to prevent any political or other interference in the process. I'm more curious about why they're spending 1/2 million dollars on a language conference? When my parents first came to Canada they couldn't speak a word of English. They learned it the same way everybody else does - watching TV.
