Putin: Another Napoleon, Hitler? Another Thirty Years War?
Moonbox replied to August1991's topic in The Rest of the World
Because those same hundreds of thousands weren't trying "in earnest" before that, I guess? They were just playing around, losing all their tanks and stuff, but not being serious. ? -
Just the latest in a long series of useless Myata threads all saying the same thing: Everything is BAD. We need to do SOMETHING.

Yeah man, more dysfunction in the Russian military and political systems is totally convincing the Ukrainians that they’re in trouble. ? -

Not enough, obviously. As I said, rebellions/coups are about momentum. You have to make it look like you're going to come out on top, otherwise there's no point. You disappear when you back a loser. -
As I said, I don't like the policies either, but it's not just about racism and hating whites. How many people do you know from any of the ads posted, period? That's a pretty funny/awkward demand for evidence. The four groups, including women and people with disabilities. You don't think women or people with disabilities can be white? Ironic considering how easily you were just proven wrong. Stop putting your "REEEee!" before the facts. ?

Moscow is huge. The entire Wagner Group would have had trouble controlling the city, nevermind 5000. I can't imagine that he would have done this unless he thought he could get military support, and when it didn't materialize he backed down. The way these coups usually start and gain momentum and succeed is perception. People gauge which side is likely to win, and they make sure they back the winning team. Doing otherwise can have fall-off-of-balcony consequences. -

Do damage, sure, but a 5000 soldier convoy cut off from the state's support apparatus was never going to be able to siege the Kremlin. Moscow is too big, Putin has something like 20,000 loyal security forces in the city, and urban fighting is hard. The entire Wagner group would probably not have been sufficient for the job, unless of course Muscovites and the FSB etc just rolled over and let him in. This I would agree with mostly. -
That's not how it works bud. The affirmative action language in government type positions has been around for as long as I've been of employment age. Strangely, whites still get hired. I can guarantee you that if you "called and asked", they'd not confirm your "whites only" claim. The only person being dishonest here is you. Whether or not it's intentional, or you're just not reasonable on this topic, is the only question. For the record, I'm largely against affirmative action like what's being described here. Last time I called CRA I had to ask for a French operator because the woman I got could barely speak English and was rude when I didn't understand her and kept asking her to repeat herself. French is very much my second language but I had an easier time speaking to the Francophone than with the unintelligible immigrant. ?

25,000 troops was probably not enough to take a city as big as Moscow, especially if there was any fight whatsoever in the National Guard or other security services. Regardless, Putin couldn't order the army to leave the Ukrainian frontlines because losing the war there is an existential threat to him. The only thing he could do was hope that the thrown-together defenses in between him and Prigozhin would make enough of a fight of it that the optics of fighting street to street in Moscow would lose any popular support Prigozhin had...in my opinion. Your strong feelings are poorly informed, as is most of what you say here.

What are you on about now? I’ve never shied away from sourcing my claims, and you claiming otherwise is freaking bizarre.

Why would you tag me here, just to snipe passive-aggressively? ?

Blowing up a bridge, or a building, is not the same thing as a concrete dam. This was built to hold back a lake, and was about as fortified as a structure can get. The only time any of these were busted in WW2 is was a special Allied project using 9000 pound bouncing depth-charge bomb that had to be delivered by super-bombers. Because it's a strategic piece of critical infrastructure, it's guarded, and a suitcase bomb won't do the trick. Besides, the Russians already told everyone it was a HIMARS attack, which proves they're lying because the HIMARs payloads are like 1/50th the size required.

You write fine, but it's often incoherent. This is an incoherent thread. The thread title is about Galicia, but you barely talk about it. It's like you're voicing your random thoughts here. At any rate, what I could understand was wrong anyways. Lemberg/Lviv wasn't the happy and harmonious place you make it out to be.

Trump is just TOO STUPID!

Because it had just been provided in the post before that. ? That you insisted on continuing to "disagree" with a point I wasn't even making is where I move on. You don't need anyone else's input for that. Have at it! Yep, you sure do. -

I did clarify. ? Scroll up. I even bolded part of it, agreeing that what you were saying was correct. I never argued otherwise, but you're so programmed for belligerent posturing that you couldn't help but yap truisms in opposition to an argument that nobody was making. Congratulations: -
I'm saying that Meta gets a disproportionate share of internet ad revenue for hosting news media content. Yeah sure. The problem for facebook will be that whatever ad revenue the news site is making from that pales in comparison to what Meta gets for hosting the creators' content. Standard Oil, for all intents and purposes, was gone. They were broken up into 40+ separate entities and lost their 95% monopoly. If that's what you call doing very well, I don't want to know what the opposite would have looked like.
-
Something like 98% of the Russian Armed Forces was committed to the Ukrainian front line. They don't have strategic reserves. The only things they have defending Moscow are the various security services and the (probably) worthless and not especially well-equipped National Guard. 25,000 battle-hardened meanies would probably be worth more than 100,000 National Guard. The optics of storming the city, however, was not going to be great, and I guess the man didn't have the support he'd hoped for if it came to that.

The same service? What? Nobody said social media can't make money. The news companies want to as well, and if their content is driving visits to social media sites, they want to be paid for it. If the social media companies don't want to pay, they don't have to. You're something like 120 years late on this as a novel argument. Standard Oil didn't get very far telling the US gov "It's not our fault everyone wants to buy our oil..." ?

Anything can be a meme, and if you're getting memed about everywhere, then you're a meme too. Getting your news off of Facebook and/or reposting it (and especially if you argue publicly over it) is cringe. The more time you waste on facebook, the more ad revenue they receive. Facebook's algos regurgitate your viewpoints back to you. Not everything that gets linked/shared by your "friends" shows up on your feed. It's the stuff you're engaging with that goes tot he front. Okay.
