Quebec, Alberta & Federal Government
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I have always thought that a US President without partisan Senate support is a goner. And a Canadian federal PM without caucus support is a loser. -
Slavic Ukraine/Russia Civil War -How to End
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in The Rest of the World
Here, I very strongly disagree. ==== When the Berlin Wall fell, we defeated communism. Ordinary people were free. Russia is not a threat. China is not a threat. Ordinary Russians and ordinary Chinese can now travel abroad. -
Slavic Ukraine/Russia Civil War -How to End

Uh? Afghanistan? ===== NATO was created to oppose the Soviet Union, you know: Communism. In 1991, Reagan won. Heck, in 1989, the wall fell. -

Carney has a razor-thin majority - dependent on the NPD (look at the members) or BQ. For votes, he needs a good whip. Unlike Mulroney or Chretien, Carney is not a good caucus leader. -

Europeans: Numerous wars killing people. Americans: We get along - except for a Civil War. -
Slavic Ukraine/Russia Civil War -How to End
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in The Rest of the World
Strongly disagree. Europe has been sliced and diced. It is America - North America - that has been largely peaceful. As a Canadian, I could not hope for a better neighbour. ===== To have world peace, we must avoid a 1914 disaster. -
Slavic Ukraine/Russia Civil War -How to End

If I were Russian, I would insist on more. NATO must dissolve. Disappear. ===== To avoid a Summer 1914 disaster, we need a new structure of peace among the elites. Since the early 1990s, we haven't had it. -
Our CBC/Radio-Canada is a bubble. Your PBS opened my mind.

In Fall 2026, the CAQ will not win re-election. I suspect that it will be a PQ majority. (The Liberals have no chance... ) Alberta? If anything, some people now prefer a referendum. And we have a federal government with a very, very ambitious clueless PM - but a bare minority. Hmmm.

Dunno. Carney is very, very ambitious. Poilievre is just ambitious.

Who really is the new PM Mark Carney?
August1991 replied to blackbird's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If Mark Carney was a stock/share, I would not buy him. Buffet warned about this. But many Canadians just did - women in particular. -
Europe now the real land of the free
August1991 replied to Aristides's topic in The Rest of the World
Disagree. The Economist once argued free trade. -
Who really is the new PM Mark Carney?

LOL! Mark Carney worked at Goldman Sachs, he graduated from Harvard, he married a British woman... He is very ambitious. -

Here's an idea: Divide so-called Ukraine. Create a new country: Galicia - like Slovakia. -
1. Advice to Americans: Don't get involved in civil wars. 1a. Iraq. 2. Putin wants regime change in Kiev. 2a. I reckon that this means Zelensky regime is gone. 2b. If not, western Ukraine is destroyed.

Have you noticed that most podcasts are male? But the CBC is obviously female? ==== I reckon that most females want security: Name recognition. Males are willing to take a chance.

This guy Carney is about to meet the Pope. Our ambitious PM wants to look good, marry up, be seen with famous people. ===== Good leaders - Trudeau Snr, Churchill - live in the real world.
-
Americans are good neighbors. And they could not hope for better neighbours.

Herbie, I understand your point. With Apple, they control/know everything - but it works and I trust them. With Microsoft, I don't trust them - but it works. With Linux, I trust the software - but it doesn't work.
