Multipolar World 1814-1914, 2008-present
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in The Rest of the World
Disagree. I reckon that the USSR could have existed for many more years - if Andropov had lived. -
Alberta's GDP/person is 2x Quebec's GDP/person
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
PEI has a lower GDP per capita than Quebec. IOW, an average person in PEI is less productive than an average person in Quebec. -

We Canadians have a civilised society, a federal State. -
Multipolar World 1814-1914, 2008-present

Truman -even Johnson- but certainly Kennedy, Reagan -understood that the US faced an ideological foe. Nixon (and Kissinger) viewed the world in multipolar terms. -
I am not Jewish. But I don't think that modern Jews quite understand the plight of Jews in the past, and refugees (Somalis, Haitians) in the present. Billy Wilder and John von Neumann were Jews born in a multicultural state. In 1914, Austria-Hungary (and Europe) imploded.

He's the weird guy (long blonde hair) at the beginning. The BBC then made a show "Jim'll fix it." (In the 1970s, Labour's James Callaghan tried to run on such a line.)
-
In the 1930s, the Jews had nowhere to go. In the 2010s, the Somalis can go back home.

Call it WDS - Windows Derangement Syndrome

Typical anti-American/leftist/liberal/hate Trump word salad. We Canadians get along. -
Call it WDS - Windows Derangement Syndrome

Herbie, are you one of those Linux guys? IMHO, you are the bane of modern democratic western life. You are a Karen. You are a fanatic. You are the 1 of the 20 who makes every HOA a nightmare. -
Abroad, people buy margarine - look at the ingredients of Becel. In Quebec, people eat butter.

How many of the players are born in Canada? Chinese? American? Before the US Congress in 1978, Trudeau Snr famously noted that many Americans side with Canadians while many Americans side with Canadians. ===== I am reminded of Seinfeld's comment about laundry:
-
En effet les Canadiens en 1763. Seuls. ===== Between 1763 and 1864, no ship arrived from France.

The Seven Years War had two peace treaties. At the time, the most important was the Treaty of Hubertusberg - which decided the critical war between Prussia and Austria-Hungary about Saxony. The later Treaty of Paris (in fact in Fontainebleau) was to sign this paper as we would among the G-7.
-
I have thought long about the events in the Seven Years War. Stanley Kubrick made a good movie of the time in Europe: Barry Lyndon ====== Modern Quebec? Off island - that's the best I can do.

Conservative MP Matt Jeneroux resigns
August1991 replied to BeaverFever's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
In 1978, desperate, Trudeau Snr got Jack Horner to cross the floor - to defend federalism. Trudeau Snr famously said at the time: "If I can get along with Horner, you can get along with Quebec." ==== The federal/provincial Liberals (Carney?) are clueless. I wish for a federal political party to make Canada Get Along. -
Conservative MP Matt Jeneroux resigns

Politics is an ugly game. ====== At present, we have a federal PM who was once a federal Bank of Canada governor. Americans would not tolerate such concentration of power. -
Disagree. Toronto is not Canada's engine. ===== Toronto is a city on a lake. Like Chicago/Detroit once were.
-
You make two points. 1. Higher-ups suspected/knew about this, but they turned an eye. Blue-line. 2. Tow-trucks. Accidents, the drivers and money. Police reports.

Canadian? All the benefits - without the cost

WorId War I? Disagree. I walk by a memorial to the "Great War". It was not a Canadian war. It was a European civil war. ===== The period between 1914-1945 was another European civil war. Just like 1789-1815. Or 1618-1648. Every generation or so, Europeans fight each other. -
In this forum, when people speak of "Canada" in English - they are largely speaking of Toronto. Pierre Trudeau understood this distinction. Canada is a much larger place

August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
In Canada, we get along. In Europe, in the 1800s, they got along - until 1914. -
When is the State involved? ====== I oppose victim statements.
