Toronto Firefighters fired -- for tweets
Bob Macadoo replied to Argus's topic in Local Politics in Canada
If in your private life you are promoting yourself through your employer then begin to display behaviour that is against a written approved policy by said employer you should certainly expect discipline. Whether its about kicking a guy in the testes, fraud, or unwanted anal intercourse. It just so happens this case was about termination, other employers have different disciplines, depends on their policies and union contracts. If the contract doesn't have clauses for pay demotion, etc. this may have been the only option. -
Thinking a group is stupid based on general characteristics is bigotry but not discrimination. You have to act on those thoughts in order to be accused of discrimination

How'd that go for "ze Germans" in your opinion?I'd have been happier to have a few dissenters wouldn't you?

I think to tie in another thread; would it be acceptable to substitute "woman" with "Christian" in the above statements? -
Carbon Tax Reduces CO2 Without Harming Economy
Bob Macadoo replied to ReeferMadness's topic in Business and Economy
Then is it not disingenuous to claim victory by citing BC, need to get a carbon hog on board otherwise the jury's still out. Its just an economic hypothesis rather than a theory. -
Law and Order in America

I especially liked the line; "Y'all just set us (sic black people) back 45 years......". I wonder if the deputy realizes how ironic that was. -
Carbon Tax Reduces CO2 Without Harming Economy
Bob Macadoo replied to ReeferMadness's topic in Business and Economy
Doesn't the success or failure of the tax completely rely on whether they actually need it or not? Regions such as BC or Quebec can incorporate a carbon tax easily and claim quick success however jurisdictions such as Alberta or Kentucky would be a disaster. -
I don't know that sounds like a judgement of the officers' intentions, let's wait for the post shooting report before we make those kind of assumptions. Wouldn't want to come up with any premature conclusions.

I can get behind this. It's dishonest to keep lying to the ROC. Come out and say these industries are important and they only pay half the year so someone has to pick up the freight the rest of the time. Either way pay double for fish, or someone's taxes pay up. That way we dispense with these red herrings/scape goats when we talk about real reform.

NDP Dewar Fined for Robo Calls
Bob Macadoo replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I recognize that Canada has weathered the storm from 2007-8 better than a lot of countries. Some of that attributable to Harper/Carney keeping our cheap money going AND some due to the financial network set in place during the Liberal era. Recognizing laurels for this gov't can be had; it's hard to congratulate someone who pats their own back and refuses to acknowledge their faults though. I have to snicker at an award granted by the "Reputation Institute". If this was an award for JT you'd be guffawing too. Maybe next they can get a participation trophy. -

Both statements the subject of conjecture and opinion on your part. Facts lie on both sides to support/refute which you fail to cite. Such black / white statements only serve to antagonize not promote debate. -
Duffy? Mac Harb should have taken the spotlight!
Bob Macadoo replied to Keepitsimple's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Hey speaking of patronage appointments, cronyism, and fraud; I hope Dean del Mastro enjoys his ministerial appointment for all his hard partisan work......wait a sec no appointment, why's that do you suppose.......??? How was that for partisan misdirection? In addition,; Tie ye olde Harb to the yardarm......time for his flogging. -
Government and MP openness and accountability
Bob Macadoo replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Add to that;"We've had meaningful conversations....." I noticed today our new minister Kellie Lietch used all of them, she is a drinking game all to herself. -
Government and MP openness and accountability

I wish to outlaw these phrases; "Let me be clear......" ".....but at the end of the day...." ".....the people have told me....." Because whatever statement that is linked to these phrases is normally a bunch of pretzel speak that means absolutely sweet f-all. I would like a politician to stand up and say, my opinion is this and I stand behind this good or bad.....now lets debate. -
I'll tell you Detroit never spent money on flowers that's a big difference. I remember going to Tigers games each year during the late 80's/early 90's and having to wear thicker Kevlar each year. There was more steel in the windows than holding up the structure itself.

Not that I believe either way the bigotry of Zimmerman but it is false logic to assume that since he dated a black girl in high school that its unlikely that he is not an ignorant bigot. There are plenty of people who have personal black friends but would still check their wallet in a crowded elevator with random black people. This is the exact phenomenon that Obama is referring to. People who are pleasant serving him coffee in the daylight but lock the doors if they saw him with a hoodie jogging at night. By saying racism, people assume you're calling them the drunken deep south father in "To Kill a Mockingbird" I'd like to think we've pulled ourselves out of that pit.

Bailing out the Big Three didn't do much for Detroit; for Pontiac, Dearborn, or Ft. Wayne it did wonders. No way anyone making union money is living in the crime pool that is Detroit. If Toronto lost a quarter of its pop. they'd be hat in hand too.

Conservatives lied about snubbing Marc Garneau
Bob Macadoo replied to jacee's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'm no Liberal shill but I watched that show today as the Liberal (the new Labrador one) said we must be objective and weigh what regs are needed in the face of the train disaster trying to agree with the CPC member until he was dumb enough to say that they were dragging their arse on regs that might've prevented it and that CN/CP are implementing on their own as a PR move. Well that was chum in the water at that point. I think the CPC could get the Liberals on board with a lot of common sense things if they weren't going for the throat 24/7. -
Harper's New Cabinet, July 2013: Personal Loyalty
Bob Macadoo replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You'll find "The Shadow" know more about the ministries more than the minister (eg Megan Leslie vs Peter Kent). In addition outside of the 15s sound bites you hear on Sun News, the critics are actually researching and proposing policy alternatives; just like the CPC did in opposition; for you know smaller gov't, transparency & accountability and other passé ideas today. There are positive attributes to diversification but it has to be coupled with prioritizattion. What ministers would I surplus? Ministers for Francophonie, Languages, Multiculturalism or Labour and Employment or Environment, Agro, Fisheries That's a start. -
Harper's New Cabinet, July 2013: Personal Loyalty
Bob Macadoo replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Actually they perform the job of keeping tabs on the ministry, and they do it with their aide, whereas apparently the minister can use the civil service under them to help in their partisan games. Well after Mulroney had 39 ministers (and he was never known for patronage either) Chrétien's gov't went down to 23. I don't expect that but any decrease is acceptable. See above; Harper and Brian, who would've thought. -
As I've heard the very same people this info comes from; "There is regrettable collateral damage when waging a 'War on Terror'".
