  1. To be fair it seems the NDP support a pipeline through BC, (Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain) just not the one you want.
  2. I think this current hub-bub of riding representation is a reflection of another argument floating in the senate threads; Cdns are just some homogeneous culture that doesn't need regional representation anymore. IMO that is bunk. Of the few things that McKay represents, maintaining the (1) riding / (1) vote, is something I support. The belief we are some general culture is another of those Cdn superiority myths put out there to feel superior to our fractious neighbours. We are a collection of regional views/values that can co-exist for the greater good of the collective, but to say we are blended is a farce. In any given decade you can find the regions resenting, feeling superior to, or just generally disliking another region. The senate (and party elections) are a needed check to ensure we don't fracture; otherwise you'd have (4) or (5) Quebec's to deal with.
  3. I actually couldn't disagree more. Canada still is a grouping of distinct regions. Although Cdns have a great deal of mobility, they are still very regionally based. Spend any amount of time in a diverse area (eg. Ft. McMurray) and regional biases and differences will stand out. Technology shares knowledge more easily but cannot easily share ideals and/or values.
  4. I think if we're calling in the RCMP for outstanding tax payments there would be a lot of business owners in the hoosegow. There's a slight difference between being behind on taxes and fraudulently getting payments or double dipping for that matter.
  5. So all large conglomerates (gov't or corps) are inefficient. I don't see Mom & Pop hanging a shingle out on this one. You kinda need some huge reserves to get into this game. I would disagree that gov't can't do this though. Steven Brill's article showed Medicaid runs very efficiently. The High Cost of Care - TIME www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,2136867,00.html
  6. Actually I don't see the difference situationally. Why is it less acceptable that a 13 yr old boy be allowed into separate women's stalls as opposed to alone in an open urinal area with 45 yr old men? The same laws that protect your 13 yr old son will work for your daughter.
  7. I don't think there should be backbenchers or non portfolio critics. They obviously aren't there to represent their constituents, so get them doing something. Make them all under secretaries, or critic aides, for the same pay obviously. This way they can cut the senior bureaucrats filling those roles and save those wages. I want an undersecretary to the undersecretary of Finance where they're only job can be checking the ledger numbers if they want. That's still better than hearing they're once a year QP Member Statement about his constituent Arlene's 100th birthday or the 50th anniversary of some local business, blah blah. When my MP comes back I want to hear the business they've furthered not how many whipped votes we paid for or how much living expense they've mooched.
