  1. Your info shows you are from Canuckistan. You realize that this is a term American neocons used to mock us for not signing on to the Iraq war, even though we were fighting and getting killed in Afghanistan.
  2. O heavens. Damages. How on earth could that possibly be justified? Death? Disease? Oh I know. Damages only apply if somebody hits DogOnPorch's car!
  3. He set a very low standard with his apology for residential schools. He stood up and said his piece and refused to let aboriginal groups stand up in the house and say what they had to say. A week later he let the President of the Ukraine address the House. Harper degrades democracy yet again.
  4. I put up a post in another thread about a guy CNN covered who had been put on the no fly list because he had written an unflattering book about Karl Rove. You gotta love Lou Dobbs. He looks more like Jon Stewart every day.
  5. Yahs! That word prohibition. Where have we seen that before? Free societies don't just vote at the polls, dontcha know? Even the RCMP and the Chiefs of Police agree that it is time to lighten up on marijuana. The reason for this is that they want to focus on the really serious issues. Cocaine. Heroin... The police unions have a different viewpoint, but they do not represent society at large. They represent things like job security, wages, and benefits for their members. It's like asking Buzz Hargrove to design a better car. Guess what he will come up with? A design that employs more people and pays them more! Our vice policies have been set for far too long by the US.
  6. O sure. Blame it on those damned immigrants. They're the ones who are buying all the dope. Especially those pesky Moslems.
  7. If you're running for the door it's because I'm kicking you out.
  8. I am very disturbed by Harper's stance on the Supreme Court. The Supremes are all we have standing between democracy and a beer hall putsch. Our senate is a bag of wind, even if elected. Our Governor General is completely impotent. Some leaders have major flaws. With Trudeau it was economics. It was bad but it wasn't fatal. With Harper it is constitutional law. It is bad and it might damn well be fatal.
  9. Any discussion that tries to work out a workable form of world government will be attacked violently by the current hegemonists. Look at all they have to lose.
  10. Winston. Very clever. At least there's one neocon who's somewhat literate. Here's another literary reference for you: "A screaming comes across the sky. It has been here before but there is nothing to compare it to now." Work? Author? Context?
  11. I don't agree. I think it could happen if the UN would Morph itself into UN II. Modelled on the EU and NAFTA, but not beholden to either. The world needs a international court that can reign in the weapons crap. Every day there are cop shows on the American networks that highlight weapons malfeasance, but we still watch people like Condy Rice shake her nuclear mojo at the world. One World. One Dream. O Jeez, I am speaking Chia-nese...
  12. Thank you for this insight into your political vision.
  13. Yeah. There is no way a cop should be picking the judges. I agree 100%. In a democracy, the police do not have a voice. They are functionaries who execute the law. They certainly should be consulted, but they should be consulted by the elected politicians, who will then appoint the judiciary. Giving the police a direct voice in the selection of the judiciary short-circuits the Canadian democratic process and it must be stopped. Don't forget. These people have unions, a secondary democratic process that favours a small number of people that negotiates against the electorate. The police must not be allowed to have a direct voice in the selection of the judiciary. This is a slippery slope to totalitarianism.
  14. Saw an interesting piece on the BBC yesterday. It related to email campaigns. Somebody had started an email campaign (pass this on to five of your closest friends) claiming that Obama is a Moslem (he is Christian) it featured pictures of a young Obama in his "Madrassa". Interestingly enough, he was grouped with a bunch of other students (high school level) who were girls. This is some Madrassa. Of course the average reactionary right wing moron does not have the smarts to understand that a girl in a Madrassa pretty well puts the whole thing out in the twilight zone. The result? 12% of the American electorate now believes that Obama is a Moslem.
  15. Clearly the UN is not working and only a fuel would trust their fate to any particular hegemony-seeking power. What we need is a New World Order, but one that enshrines some sort of balance of power. I propose a system of regional government. The world gets divided up into regions: say North America, Central America/Caribbean, South America, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa, South Africa, South Asia, South-East Asia, East Asia, Oceania. Once every five years (or so) each country holds elections and as part of those elections, it gets to vote on which region it will support. This would give a chance to a country like, say Georgia, to decide it is part of North America. The decision is not irrevocable, but can be re-made at the next election. The region has a single vote at the World Council. No single region has a veto. Treaties, the major cause of wars for centuries, will be abolished. Sort of like a European parliament but on a world scale. There would also be a World Court. Heh. Heh.
  16. I'd agree with you except that we are part of NATO and we have obligations. Iraq, on the other hand, had nothing to do with NATO and the US abandonned its NATO obligations when it went on that wild goose chase.
  17. Some fora have a bow-down smiley. Oh we are not worthy. What a marvellous post.
  18. Thanks for havng the cojones to state an opinion instead of just voting and slinking away.
  19. Hmmm. Seems a few here are missing the sub-prime mortage angle. So how many votes do you think might be in that jackpot and do you think they just might be mad as hell? Look for a McCain video bite in the Big Easy. LOL.
  20. I am a big Gorby fan. He took a huge risk. Too bad nobody in the US had his balls.
  21. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080822/ap_on_...nce_afghanistan Our Bush friendly PM is talking about an election come the fall. We have now lost close to a hundred Canadian soldiers in Kandahar while the US engages in an internal debate about its role in Iraq. I say it's time to let the US know that the free ride has ended. This latest BS in Georgia is just getting us in deeper and deeper. I say we need to follow the French example with a referendum on our involvement in Afghanistan as part of the next election, whether Harper likes it or not.
  22. Newfoundland got screwed by Quebec in Labrador and Danny Williams has patiently waited to bring his people the riches they so well deserve. The day has come, and recruiters are out looking to make a buck by raiding the roles of the Oilsands. Good for you Danny. You go boy.
