  1. According to the Canadian Centre for Diversity (www.centrefordiversity.ca), Jews are a visible minority. Do you think they were under-represented at the GOP Convention as well?
  2. Just think what the Albanians could do if they had Hollywood's money, LOL. But then De Sica was Italian. Google is a good place to learn about European countries. YOu should try it. And thanks for the illegal copyright violation links.
  3. Not sure how this got deflected intoa discussion of Communism. I believe in capitalism, I'm just not a believer in hegemony.
  4. Full points AngusThermopyle, although I think Pynchon is a great writer.
  5. Amazing. You people cannot even deal with your own problems without some Hollywood jackass emoting about how we should all give to make up for your screw-ups. A real eye-opener for me was when Frank Stronach went down there and started to build welfare housing. Don't you people have any pride? Yanqui Right wing = pathetic losers that cannot take care of their own. How sad that our people are still getting killed to support your stupid foreign policy. Yanqui losers.
  6. A hockey mom is more fierce than a pit bull. So, those of you who pay attention to hockey parent violence... Has she assaulted a parent from the other team? A referee? A coach? Has she (Madam the mayor) ever driven her kids to a hockey game? How many games has she really been there for? Come on now... A hockey mom. And a mayor. Yeah right. So, Sarah, what exactly does off-side mean? LOL. Another Yankee poser.
  7. You lot are being programmed. Step away from the tube....
  8. I'm with you here. Why indeed? It's dumb. Just like our senate - elected or not. We have a really dumb system.
  9. Apologies if anyone has mentioned this. Maybe I missed it. Another thing that disappoints me about the Tories is their abrupt cancellation of the income trust regime. This tax regime built out the western oil and gas industry before the big commodity boom came along. Because of income trusts (Oil Sands Income Trust, anybody?) we were ready when the boom came along. Harper's (and Flaherty's) mis-step on this issue hurt many many small investors - especially retirees, whom the Harper government has been trying very hard to suck up to ever since. It really angered a lot of very serious business people, not only in the west, but also on Bay Street. What made it even more egregious is the fact that, when he was running for PM, Harper told us all that he would not touch income trusts. Would you buy a used investment from this guy?
  10. I think it's a great museum, but I would like to see less focus on hardware and more on campaigns, losses, heroism, etc.. Canadians need to know more about exactly what our military has done. Look at our contributions in the North Atlantic in WWII. The Yanks were sitting at home waiting for an engraved bloody invitation while their industrialists were making a killing supplying for the Brits and our boys were getting massacred taking their crap across the Atlantic. Canadian Troops liberated Holland! Read about that! One of the big films this year at the Tranna Film Festival is Paul Gross' 'Paschendale'. Canadians need to know what our military has done so we won't get sucked in by guys like Harper who wanted to invade Iraq.
  11. Strong is a guy who got very rich on government poobah jobs by coming up with outside of the box ideas. When he was at Ontario Hydro, he talked his way into a major purchase of Brazilian Rainforest as a carbon offset. Ahead of his time maybe, but he did nothing about the fact that their Nuclear Division was running the place to rack and ruin. Strong is the quintessential academic. He is very impractical, but he has great contacts in the international community thanks to Pearson and Trudeau. You can Google him to see what they did for his career. He has homes on every continent. Strong is basically useless other than his ability to put UN leaders in touch with certain aspects of the world community. Maurice Strong is essentially a dilitant. The UN equivalent of Paris Hilton.
  12. In tough times, the electorate swings left. Right now, tough times are what we are hearing. Harper picked a bad time to call an election.
  13. Ha ha. So you're being ironic, right?
  14. I hearing a buzzing sound. Sort of like a bug zapper...
  15. I think the government of Canada should get the DEA to extradite for trial gun manufacturers whose weapons end up here. If THEY can go after Emery, why can't WE go after Smith and Wesson? Screw THEIR rights. We have our own rights.
  16. There will be an onus of proof on the Crown to show that the perp knew that the victim was pregnant. If that can be proved, then I agree there should be special treatment.
  17. Just think how much better you would have ben able to deal with her if you'd had a little education in advance. I've had one of those. Well actually two. They would have eaten me alive if I didn't have something to bring to the table.
  18. And the Ambassador was a copy of the Morris Oxford.
  19. I'm starting this thread so everybody can have a chance to give the raspberry to advertising campaigns. My favourite cynicism in advertising candiate is the Joe Rant (oops Joe Canadian) advertising campaign run by Molsons a few years back. It was basically an anti-American rant. "We have a beaver and not and eagle.. we have a prime minister and not a president.... AND I AM CANADIAN!" Molsons spent major bucks to send this guy and his flannel shirt all over the country delivering his rant at county fairs, jazz festivals, speedways.... At the same time, Molsons was selling the Montreal Canadiens to an American businessman from Washington DC. Has to be a low point in Canadian advertising. Really. What would hapen if Steinbrunner sold the Yankees to Japanese interests? I challenge anybody to come up with anything lower than this.
  20. I've already acknowledged your historical perspective for A Clockwork Orange, but if you never needed any sex education, then you either have had (a partner/partners) who didn't give a damn or at least one who was one hell of a good lay.
  21. I agree this is a good law, but the problem comes with enforcement, particularly when enforcement is controlled by Julian Fantino, Ontario Provincial Police top dawg. The CBC did a piece describing how a motorocyclist who grew impatient with the humungous GTA traffic jams tried driving between lanes of traffic. The OPP charged him with stunt driving (same as street racing), impounded his motorocycle, and gave him a big fat ticket. He had to hire a lawyer, pay over a thousand to get his bike back, and then had to sell the bike to pay the fines and lawyer fees. This is an abuse of power. If you think that what this guy did is wrong, what is the scale of wrong? Is it chased by a flock of patrol cars wrong? Is it illegal right turn wrong? I'm all for stopping street racing, but I think that the legislation and Fantino need a little fine-tuning.
  22. Well now the full picture is revealed. Jim Flaherty, a guy whom Ontarians have grown to know and trust almost as far as they can throw him, has shown that, yes folks, there was a deficit in the first two months of the quarter (hold on, ladies and germs, who reports on a two month basis?) but, in the third month of the quarter, we ripped a 1.5 billion surplus! Holey hole in a doughnut, Baitman. Does this mean that we now have a syncopated reporting schedule? First we get a report for the first 2 months, then we get a report for the last month. Hang on folks. This just in. In the last 10 minutes of the quarter.... Or does it mean that we are heading for an election? "Steven Haper is a stand up guy" (quote from a recent Conservative Party TV ad).
  23. Yeah. A lousy outcome. Those who bought their tickets through travel agents, or with credit cards that offer automatic trip insurance will be OK. Everyone else is S.O.L.
