  1. Actually the problem is with somebody like Condy Rice running in and getting everyone to sign a contract when there is no court to enforce contract law - say like we might have in the Hague. Oh wait. The International Court in the Hague does exist, but the one country that could use a little contract law right now doesn't respect it. Damned. Can't go there. Damned might get dragged in there for a few, um, indiscretions.... Ha ha Condy. Contract law. Such a simple principle, but what a tough nut...
  2. Exactamundo. The Americans are better at playing the press. Of course this is because the US Press protects their citizens and the Russian Press is in jail. The American Press failed us internationally, if they ever fail us internally, we will be done like a Russian. The veneer of civilisation just seems to get thinner and thinner.
  3. OK. Wait a minute. The Aussie culture is built around the sea, the same as ours is built around the snow. If we don't do the same in 2010 as the Aussies have done here, then I wil be disappointed, but I am a big fan of the Aussie athletes.
  4. They blew up a lot pf ships in Poti and have taken possession of the harbour. This is miltary stragey 101. Destroy the infrastructure and take control of pinch points. Lie about your intentions. Oops. Talk about the "Fog of War". I was amazed when Condy Rice flew in with her peace treaty. The woman needs a holiday. Or maybe just a nice job giving lectures to undergraduates. Running a Think Tank? I'm sure there's something she can do. Oh I know! Run an oil company!
  5. We have a few big shows here in North America. We have the "World Series" (yeah right). We have the Stanley Cup. And then we have the Olympics. The big show.
  6. Do you know anything about the world tennis circuit? How is it any different? Because Nike and Addidas sponsor it? Seriously. Look at how a great tennis player gets built. Or a great baseball player A great hockey player. Do you know what happens to a guy who plays for the Sault Greyhounds and doesn't make the big show? We're talking "Wold you like cheese with that." You are being naive.
  7. Another great Dick Cheney idea. On the Comedy Network there's a fat guy who puts on a skin tight cat suit and mimes skiers. Great comedy. Just like Dick Cheney.
  8. Apparently they were abolished out of disgust by the current ruler regarding corruption and politics. LOL.
  9. No, but from what little I can glean, a lot of them are drunk.
  10. I think this is a good thing as long as appropriate limits are applied. There are times when we need to bolster the workforce. The problem comes when we commit ourselves to letting the workers stay longer than they are needed. We had a case a few years back where Philippino domestic workers got their shirts up in a knot because their visas were not being extended into citizenship as a matter of course. They demonstrated and unfortunately they got their way. The US has been having the same problem with migrant workers from Mexico. The problem is that we have to decide what is best for Canada, and not was is best for immigrants. Being an immigrant does not necessarily enitle you to citizenship. Canada neeeds to grow its population, but we need to exercise control. Too many people will sink the life raft. As much as I am sad for the plight of the poor of the world, we cannot impoverish ourselves to meet the overwhelming demand they present.
  11. No but you do hear that the medic just might have been killed by friendly fire. In any case, I would like to point out that a poll I set up here not too long ago showed that the CBC is the most trusted source for political reporting among WLW members.
  12. My guess is that if it exists it just might be a result of overcrowding.
  13. The CBC reported US troops on the ground in Georgia two days ago. Today the BBC reported the same. CNN is confirming US ships off the Georgian coast in the Black Sea. You have to wonder how the hell they got there. If this is all true, we are into Archduke Ferdinand territory.
  14. You know, that's an interesting comment. Just last night I saw a piece on Lou Dobbs (CNN) describing a guy who had been put on the US No Fly list because he wrote an unflattering book about Carl Rove.
  15. According to the BBC, the US has now put troops into Georgia. Ladies and gents, find a bomb shelter. George W. Bush. The W stands for Wacko.
  16. The world's power blocs are reforming. Enough said.
  17. Come on. Aren't you being just a bit disengenuous? A few anti-ballistic missiles? First a sabre and then a gun? Sort of like Vietnam. Well we'll just put a few advisors in here and then ... bingo.. I do not like Mr. Putin, but I can sure see his point of view here. And now we have (former oil executive) Condy Rice flying into Tblisi with a piece of paper that only the Georgians will sign. Gee. US troops on another Iranian border. I mean isn't this really what it is all about? This just keeps looking like tectonic plates. The little rocks get crushed while the big rocks grind away. Before long you've got volcanoes. Like one of those puzzles that used to be in the papers. Find the thing that doesn't belong. It's not the Russians.
  18. You're reaching...
  19. Well I've managed to put you in your place on a number of occasions. Let's see. The most recent was when you called me a liar for saying that the price of oil had gone up a whack on Iran/israel tensions. I provided a very good link, and, surprise, surprise, anti-semitism was invoked.
  20. This reminds me of that guy Mister Blackwell who made a name for himself by declaring a ten worst dressed list. I mean really. Isn't his all about getting marketing attention for a web site nobody has ever heard of? What a crock.
  21. So it's OK for the Georgians to want to lean west but when the Russians wanted to put missiles in Cuba that was a problem? This is the same thing to the Russians with the shoe being on the other foot. Anybody who says so is not a paranoid from the fringe left, but is looking at the reality on the ground. The US is way out on a limb with this. I feel sorry for the Georgians who are paying for an American shell game. The CBC was reporting that the US would send "humanitarian troops" into Georgia. Get under your desks folks if that ever happens. Not that I think it will. I mean really. Bush sending troops into Georgia? Well why not? It's just a short march across the border from Iran, LOL.
  22. It doesn't matter why he wasn't there. This was the biggest show on earth that day. Bush was there. Putin was there. This was THE BIG SHOW. Harper made a BIG mistake.
  23. edit
  24. Yowzah! The exactamundo facts on the ground. Cuba anyone?
  25. High five. Er... four.
